Data from research firm Media Create shows that sales of Sony PlayStation 3's console rocketed past the X-Box 360, outselling the competition by a ratio of Approximately 5:1. It seems like things are going normal for the PlayStation 3 and all the Sony consoles in general with Japanese Sales.

Hardware sales for the week ending July 15:

PS3 - 13,493
X-Box 360 – 2,942

I was going to be a prick and show Xbox360 sales but as I searched I came across a few sites claiming current PS2 sales are 400,000+ a month in the U.S while Xbox360 is 200,000+.

Who the fuck still buys ps2? WHO?

That would also explain why there are more imports than domestic cars there too, right? :dunce:

I still have a PS2, and I LOVE the absolute shit out of it. The PS2 is still an entertainning investment, especially since gaming companies are still making worth-while products for it and definitely because its about 5/6th less expsenive than the PS3. The games are absolutely staggering in variety, quantity, addictiveness, availability, and affordability. The PS2 is easy to deal with. Its tiny, with minimal wires and accessories, and features free online capabilities. The games are even more accessible as you can transfer and save data onto USB drives. The PS2 also plays DVD's and old school games from the PS1 generation. It's all conveniently wrapped up in a tiny, light, portable package.

And quite frankly, I don't really understand why anyone in the market for a gaming console wouldn't buy one; given how cheap, easy, accomodating, and fun they really are, and how frustrating, expensive, and needless newer consoles currently are. The PS2 will be selling like gold for the next year until PS2 prices drop. By that time the real games will release and thats when Sony launches ahead by a long shot... as usual.

Um... People who can't pay for a next gen system? It's only like 200$ and the games are like 20.

EDIT: Plus with all the awesome games coming out, like God of War II and Final Fantasy 13, people who didn't have one are getting one now.

No shit. It's fucking Japan. Xbox 360 never had a decent foothold there.

So, two games.

You realize they're saying 400,000+ units are being sold each month in the U.S a lone 7 years after PS2 release.

That's imfuckingpossible, my grandmother would own a PS2 then.

As to what I remember, Xbox doesn't have that many great games either, FPSs are it's guts and glory, Halo and Gears of War.

I'd be surprised if your grandma didn't have one.

Let's stop this fight, I'm just a noob.

I'm comparing the 360 and PS3, thats my point. This topic has nothing to do with either the DS or Wii.

If Microsoft could get some good Japanese developers on board and make a good RPG, maybe 360 can gain better ground.

If not stop wasting investment in the Japanese market and stay west.

The PS3 and the DS have nothing to do with each other, one is a console the other is hand held. You can compare the PS3 and the Wii, but there's no point, the Wii will win for the next couple years. The PS3 and the 360 are the two most comparable because they are the most like each other, but comparing them with the Wii doesn't make much sense.

Then what are you bragging about?

10k a week is still no form of accomplishment, the fact you're bragging about it is laughable.

Also, last I checked, the Wii is a seventh generation Console, so it's still included and it sells almost 70,000 a week in Japan.

The ps2 is still the most selling console, it is also the console which is getting the most games AND biggest hits for the moment. There's a reason the current ps3 has a ps2 ( and ps1 ) in it, they are still massivly producing shit for the ps2. Because if you weren't aware, they're releasing a 'light' ps3 in 2008 which won't be able to play ps2/1 games.

Hum, the only console which the wii is having competition with is the playstation2. Similar graphics, same low prices, popularity in japan, etc.

The ps3 is a high cost, w/ hard drive machine that runs games with graphics as good as the ones you can find on a brand new computer. It can also read blueray. Extremly similar to the Xbox, except the xbox reads HD-DVD instead of blueray...

Let's not even talk about the fact that the ps3 is still selling good while it has literaly 1 worthwhile game... eh.

thats sony's gameplan? release a console next year with less features than one they're selling right now? almost like selling a 2007 model car with power windows standard, and then selling the 2008 without.

It's not selling good. Both the 360 and Wii are outselling it everywhere (other than the 360 in Japan).

In over 9 months the PS3 has only managed to beat the 360 once for a week and that was because of a pricedrop, then went back to third place. It's still trailing in Europe and it's sales are horrible in Japans (though, so is the 360's).

I love the spin that's been tried here.

The 360 is selling 2.2:1 to the PS3, considering the the 360 came out a year earlier its not surprising, the 360 gained a good foothold on the market. But the early release has turned its ugly head resulting in hardware failures.

Actually, I tried renting Motorstorm the other day and it's fun as hell... So I'd knock that up to TWO worthwhile games. ;) (Resistance being the other of course)
