GTA IV: The First Mission Pt. 1

Even if it was called 'Free-roaming Mafia shooter IV' Rockstar's new GTA would still be the biggest game of the year. That's because even without the brand, the hype and the moaning lawyers, it's shaping up to be a bloody impressive game.

Ushered in to a dark room by half of Rockstar's PR department (they're protective of their baby), we're greeted by a giant leather sofa, a giant HD telly and a bowl of sweets big enough to give Ronaldinho serious toothache.

This is our second look at the game and we were promised a lot more action than what we saw (or didn't) in the first demo. This isn't the first mission in the game, rather the first mission Rockstar has shown anyone.

Grand Theft Auto IV Update - A Day in Liberty City + Tons Of Screenshots

The last time we got a look at Grand Theft Auto IV, Rockstar showed us a rather modest taste of what to expect from its highly awaited crime epic, one that gave us only a basic idea of the kind of urban playground the developer was creating. More recently, Rockstar took all that theoretical stuff we've been hearing about with regard to the game's new mechanics, and put it into impressive action with a new demonstration of the Xbox 360 version that started answering our questions about how the designers will change the gameplay in the fourth iteration of their seminal open-world action series. Can they tinker with the formula that sold 900 billion games across the cosmos without damaging its core appeal? Our answer right now? Yeah, they probably can.

Rockstar rep says 'complete experience' only on 360 - plus new screens and details

It's no secret that the long-ago announced downloadable episodes for Grand Theft Auto IV will be exclusive to the Xbox 360 version of the game. According to Rockstar Games spokesman Hosi Simon, however, there won't be any consolation prizes for those who choose to buy the PlayStation 3 edition instead. When asked during a preview of the game (which you can read about here, if you haven't already) whether there would be any advantage to owning the PS3 version that could rival the 360's exclusives, Simon said, "not that I can think of."

PS3 Version of GTAIV Two Weeks Behind X360’s Version

Speaking to the gaming websites gather who were gathered at the GTAIV preview event, Rockstar has confirmed that that the PS3 version of GTAIV is a week to two weeks behind the XBOX360’s version.


The demo which was shown is from the Xbox 360 version of the game. The PlayStation 3 version is still “a week or two behind,” according to Rockstar. The build shown is 5 weeks old, and the frame rate has improved considerably since the last demo.

Damn, this game is going to be great, just look at those screens :boink:. Not to mention the fact they're five weeks old and the guy himself it's looking ALOT better now and plays smoother. Sprinkle Episodic Exclusive DLC and you've got a day one buy from me!

Also, looks like the PS3 version is having trouble, again. The PS3's build is behind and it could lead to some nasty consequences, like a game this big being a quick 360 timed-exclusive.

Can't wait for this one.

Well, MGS 2 and 3 were basically movies with some video game thrown in... I don't expect that MGS 4 will be any different. Won't be enough for me to buy a PS3 by any stretch of the imagination, and I can't imagine anyone else would buy one just to play MGS either.
