View Full Version : Silent Hill 5... what the hell?
So finaly the next chapter of one of my favorite franchises have been announced: Silent Hill 5. A teaser has been released, but it contains nothing, but some fog and some guy speaking some cliche lines (probably the protaganist). Its hardly worth a watch, but here you go.

Some early screens.

What worries me a lot is that the team behind the previous games wont be making this one. The American developer The Collective will be developing Silent Hill 5 and looking at their previous products gives me a bad feeling. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Collective%2C_Inc.
Maybe they can make a good game, but I honestly dont think that any other developer than the right people in Team Silent can create the atmosphere that has made me love the series. The best another developer can do is try to copy the atmosphere to satisfy the fans. It feels a little like if all the members of a good band got replaced by others who would then continue to try and make the music under the original band name.
I might be a little pessimistic seing as almost no info is out about the game yet, but this has gotten my hopes down a lot.

Yeah, the teaser is pretty lackluster and offers us very little insight. The voiceover was trite, but then again, the voice acting in 1 and 2 was terrible, but they're among my favourite games of all time.
I was hugely disappointed with The Room, and considering that was number 4 in the series, I fear for this next installment. With any luck they'll revert back to something closer to the original. I'm not saying they need to adhere to that forumla, as I'm all for innovation and originality, but it worked superbly. I also hope they include puzzles again with the option of choosing a difficultl setting. I enjoyed working them out on the hard mode in number 3 (The books, Crematory, Tarot card, etc).
I liked The Room although it wasnt as good as the others and im glad they tried something different. You gotta agree that it had some good atmosphere though and I fear that a company behind licenced titles such as Buffy cant pick this atmosphere up.

Yeah the trailer didnt show dick but from the screenshots it looks like its going to be pretty good. I agree that the fourth one really wasnt that good even though i havent beaten it yet. I still hope this one does good though, it looks like the same guy from the first one or is he just wearing the same clothes.

The Room had some interesting and unique ideas, but they were executed poorly for the most part. I agree that the atmosphere was good, but it was overshadowed by restricting the player too much. 1 and 2 allowed you to explore more, which added to the feeling of isolation; you could run around the town for ages and stumble upon more health drinks and ammo scattered around a number of interesting nooks in the locations. The first few times I played the original I managed to miss the gas-station.
What also annoyed me about The Room (aside from the lack of puzzles) were those damn ghosts you couldn't stop without the dagger (or whatever it was). I got fed up of hitting them back all the time. It became tedious. I also hated the amount of backtracking involved as the locations were not particulary interesting and were restricted.
The first person feature in the apartment was an interesting idea. Being able to look out at the city through the window and see things related to the plot was a welcome element in my view. I also liked how you could use the phone, look through the spy hole on the door and through the hole in the wall to the apartment next door.
I would, however, sacrifice all of these novelties for a game which was more akin to the 1st than what turned out to be The Room. Of course I'm not going to jump to conclusions yet as I want to give the developers a chance, but I do have anxieties.

It's pretty funny how the Cloverfield trailer can show nothing and people will be all over it, but people get pissed off that this one does the same thing.

there was a reason why silent hill 4 didn't fit with the others. that's because it was originally a different game and not having to do with silent hill. but the decision was made at some point to make it into the new silent hill and tie up the story with stuff from silent hill 2.
so how many silent hill games are there? besides the obvious 1 thru 5 now. well theres
silent hill origins for the psp. created by climax studios and not team silent who created the original.
silent hill the arcade. its an arcade light gun game. there are two characters eric and tina and they (you)battle silent hill monsters by shooting them. it's very much like house of the dead.
silent hill V - The game tells the story of Alex Shepherd, a soldier who has returned from a war overseas. Shepherd discovers upon his arrival that his father has gone missing and his mother catatonic. Joshua, his brother, is the only one who can provide solace, but he soon vanishes. The game will chronicle Shepherd's search to find his missing brother. Much like Silent Hill: Origins, Team Silent will not be developing the project, but instead by The Collective from Foundation 9 Entertainment. avialable for the ps3 and xbox 360. too bad for wii.
silent hill play novel. it was for the game boy advance and was more like reading thru a book like a choose your own adventure type book.
theres also the remake of the original with elements of the movie added in. nothing more on that.

Well its over 3 years since the last game was released so of course I was hoping for some more info. The teaser isnt whats pissing me off though, its the fact that a new team is gonna make the game.

exactly, great idea, failed in practice. All the backtracking made things a bit frustrating.
If 5 has a new team I am a bit worried. Those guys really gave the game a creepy vibe, much better than the other horror/survival games out there.

the collective made two of my favorite games, although the controls were kinda choppy. one was the original buffy the vampire slayer game and then they had the indiana jones game. both games used the same game engine and one similiar weapon, but i enjoyed both games.
