Hey guys soo my boss has a good drivetrain out of a 92 gmc sierra 4x4, the tranny is a 700 r4. which would be perfect for my buick since its a four speed and a fuck of a lot stronger, but the tranny is computer controlled, can i still run this tranny without running the engine eletronics?

Nope. The electronics run the shift solenoids and I think the converter lockup. If you don't have them plugged in, you won't be shifting.

Are you sure it is computer controlled? I didn't think they made the switch over to the 4L60E that soon in those trucks.
What is in your Buick, 3.8? If so, you can't use it anyway, you need something with a BOP bell housing, I don't recall any 700-R4's with a BOP pattern. Also, being 4X4, I think the tailshaft is setup for a transfer case, which would be of no use to you.
I know most, if not all, 200-4R's have both Chevy and BOP patterns and none are computer controlled, but they do use a TV cable, which can suck to setup if you don't have parts from a donor vehicle. The only wiring harness to it is for the lockup torque converter, this needs to be setup too, or you will fry the converter.
