Well your link didn't work for me but I'm happy. The Wii really did take the most thought out of the new gen consoles and it deserves to make a good load of money. Can't wait to see what comes next from Nintendo.
Oh and I guess I can't wait for better graphics from Microsoft and Sony.:rollseyes

Who cares the Wii is only fun rarely and with a group of people, its only sold so much because every jap alive owns one, and then on top of that all the other asian nintendo butt huggers in the world, and then on top of that even more nintendo butt huggers, the motion sensing stuff is complete bullshit id much rather just use a normal controller, i play games for the fact its a game, if i wanted to get up and do it myself id go do the real fuckin thing...

I care. Please...let this just be a temporary setback. If the Wii ends up determining the next direction the industry takes I may have to do the unthinkable...finally hang up my controllers.

The DS has taken the portable game industry in a new direction, and that was a damn good path taken. DS was a breath of fresh air, instead of getting a GBA 2, we got something new.
Since the Wii is DS principles in console form(new control method and appeal to non gamers), I really don't understand why this change in direction is bad. It will alter the games we play, but isn't that a good thing? The PS and N64 made the necessary step from 2D to 3D. Since there are no necessary steps to be taken graphically, why not alter a different feature of games instead of fucking injecting your old console with steroids.
Anyways, it's too early to judge the Wii based on games and whether or not the controls will work out.
Wait for da holiday season to come, it will present the games that will make or break the Wii.

The last handheld console I owned was the Sega Gamegear.

....because I don't like it? Because I hate the direction it's leading us in? Go ahead, enjoy it if you like the POS. If the Wii does keep going strong game companies certainly aren't going to miss me.

I know the last portable you owned was the game gear. My point was that the DS did the same thing the Wii is trying to do and it did it damn well. The direction the Wii is going has already been proven that it can work and if it does work, it will be savage.
But hell, no point in arguing over something like this.
Back on topic, all this shows is there's a damn good chance that the Wii will attract the most 3rd party developers. Which could be a good thing if they make games instead of fucking minigame collections.

What it has "proven" is that there is a market for the type of games it produces. I am not a part of that market. The industry is shifting it's focus away from people like me. Sucks to be me I guess.

The Wii is great and all, and I was looking forward to it the most out of the 3, but there has yet to be any really good games for it except Zelda and I'm not really into that. When are the good games come out for it? The Ps3 almost has better games than it.

People are buying it because it looks fun with the commercials they put out. And the cheap price is always a plus with a next gen system. However, once you buy it, you realize how much money you just wasted and could of saved up a little more and bought an Xbox 360. The Wii has the shittiest graphics ever, considering it's a "next-gen system". The only cool thing about the Wii is it's originality, yes, the Wiisports are fun, but c'mon, wouldn't you rather be playing Gears of War and shooting shit up?

i get fed up of jumping around and flailing my arms like a twat on the Wii games.. then you play boxing and its gotta be the most annoying one out of the lot, the controlling is pathetic and there is no flailing arms like in other games, that you would think would work better in boxing, rather than shitty twitchy little movements.

I just wish that there were more serious games made for the Wii. This seems like a case where good sales could doom a console for hardcore gamers. The only serious games that don't suck are from Nintendo. It's depressing, really. I used to dream about getting a Wii and playing a sword fighting game with 1:1 motion detection. Instead we get a half-assed FPS with forced sword battles that are slash, block, slash, dodge, slash, block, etc. At least MP3 is on the cusp of release, but all of the games I'm waiting for were announced before launch. Studios are switching their focus more toward casual gamers. I haven't purchased a game for the Wii since a week after release and that game was a mistake. I plan to buy Super Paper Mario some day, but I'm too lazy to do it. The online service is shit; only one game online so far and all I can download is old games.
tl;dr: Fuck casual gamers and the developers that cater to them; they ruined the Wii.

I hate to say it dude, but you cannot hide your inner fanboy anymore. Lemme just give my 2 cents. I, like many other members of this section, am a hardcore gamer. Most of us looked up at the Wii and smiled, seeing its great potential and the ways video games can be fun with it.
...And what do we get? Let's see, Wii sports, a fun little tech demo as I call it, Zelda - The only worthwhile adventure game. Other than that we got crappy movie games or games that failed in the concept. Nintendo knows it's hardware best, so they are gonna hook us up right? Wrong! They shit in the face of every gamer who wanted to continue their hobbie. What did we get at E3? WiiFit? And when Reggie gets the question, "What will you do for the core gamers?" It seems he is trying to excuse and escape from the question.
So, why are all us "core" gamers upset? Because Nintendo instead decided to cater to children and non gamers, leaving all of us in the dark in return for profit. If they can at least get them to buy it, they've made their profit and their work is done.
That's why the 360 gets so praised, and Wii's get dusty in closets. It can supply a great lineup of games for both occasional and hardcore gamers, have a premium online service with the majority of games having online multiplayer and downloadable content. Shit, the Wii has 1 online game.... Other than that it's old games that I can easily get on an emulator. The PS3 even has quite a bit of online games. There is no excuse for the Wii.

Before I had ever played a video game I went to a friends house and played Nintendo for the first time. Funnest thing ever and I had never seen anything like it. Since then every single console has been almost the same exact thing with better graphics. Now there's the Wii which has changed the game once again. If the only thing you care about in progression is "zomg graphics!!!11!!" then by all means enjoy whatever system microsoft and sony recycle with a new graphics engine and processor. I, along with million of others, am looking forward to seeing what creativity and fresh ideas can be put into a console and right now only Nintendo seems to think that way. And with such high sales hopefully they will be able to invest a lot into it.

Honestly, the only Wii game that I am actually looking forward to is Brawl.
Whenever I go to a game store most of the Wii games I see are shitty, monotonous movie based titles like "rise of the Silver Surfer" and "Open Season", same thing with the gamecube. Goddamn it Nintendo.
Actually most of the Gamecube games I own are movie based titles, but atleast they're good ones like the Lord of the Rings games and Spiderman. But then theres the Hulk, and Star Wars: Bounty Hunter. Jesus next dev who tires to combine platforming and third person shooting like that is going to eat a boot. You jump around like a fucking madman and slam the shoot button, thats all you do.
The Wii could be so much better if they got more games, and do the motion sensor thing right. Far Cry: Vengeance was terrible.

It doesn't matter how hard people try, the classics will always be remembered, and played more. I guarantee you that there are more people playing the original DOOM game right now than there are people playing Goldeneye or Red Faction. It doesn't matter that both of the latter titles were awesome at the time they came out, DOOM is still the more memorable game.
And that will continue. In ten years, Gears of War will be seeing less action than Quake (the original), people will still be enjoying the first Legend of Zelda game, and Mario will still be more memorable than Kratos of God of War.
Why? Because those games are better. They are all original, and nothing will ever surpass them in what they did.
Tetris, Pac Man, and Dig Dug will outlast Metal Gear Solid, Half-Life, and Halo. And on a side note, Dig Dug would kick Master Chief's ass any day of the week.

Outside of the obvious semantics surrounding the word "better", the titles I mentioned are definitely original.
Tetris was the first falling block puzzle game. Zelda was the first in depth adventure game. And Mario completely revolutionized the platformer genre, and gaming in general.

That's not my point.
The point is that games like Tetris, Pacman, Solitaire, Pong, and even Mario will stand the test of time for the same reason that Tic Tac Toe has.
They're fun, simple, quick, and have an almost instant payoff. Sure, you can get better and try and beat high scores or do speed runs, but the point is that virtually anyone can pick them up and have fun spending their time.
Games like God of War and Deus Ex have a steeper learning curve and/or require a larger investment in time and effort. If I'm going to attempt another run through of Deus Ex, like I did not long ago, I'm going to have to plan out when I have enough freetime to really get into it and make the effort to beat it. Conversely, if I've only got fifteen minutes to kill I'll just boot up one of the aforementioned titles on an emulator or something. Instant gratification.

I'm not a big fan of Guitar Hero, or DDR.
But even if I was for the sake of argument, those items are optional devices designed to be used for a few specific games on the console. They're gimmicks by their own admission, more or less. What do you think people would be saying if the 360 required something like the eyetoy for all of its games?
Your analogy fails.

Your analogy fails.
And you could say the same exact thing about the Wiimote. There are games for the Wii that don't require it's motion sensing capabilities at all. Calling the Wii's controller a gimmick is redundant, considering it's simply another way to interface with a video game console.
Are mouse and keyboard gimmicks? Are controllers for PC's gimmicks? Are controllers in general gimmicks? What about games that utilize light guns? Or games that involve online play?
A "gimmick" is a hook in a product designed to attract more customers. That means, by definition, every video game released is a gimmick for the console it's being released on.
The point is that games like Tetris, Pacman, Solitaire, Pong, and even Mario will stand the test of time for the same reason that Tic Tac Toe has.

Precisely. Those games cater to a larger crowd. More people will enjoy them.
But my point was that you'll continue seeing remakes of those games. How many different Tetris and Pacman clones are there? In thirty years, they'll still be getting made and people will still be buying them. And Halo will be long forgotten.

Yeah, like Super Smash Brothers Brawl, the sole game on the system I’m actually interested in. Those are the exception, not the rule.
Calling the Wii's controller a gimmick is redundant, considering it's simply another way to interface with a video game console.
Fine, whatever, I’m not going to argue semantics with you. I’ll instead just say that it’s a crappy half assed way of interfacing with the console. And if the Xbox 360 or the PS3 required you to use an eyetoy to interface with the game, that would be a crappy half assed way of interfacing with the console as well.
Precisely. Those games cater to a larger crowd. More people will enjoy them.
Yeah, because they’re simple and fun, just like I said.
But my point was that you'll continue seeing remakes of those games. How many different Tetris and Pacman clones are there? In thirty years, they'll still be getting made and people will still be buying them. And Halo will be long forgotten.
No, they’ll be playing them online for free, remakes and originals. Oh, and you’ve basically said nothing to challenge my point. Tic Tac Toe, hangman, and rock, paper, scissors haven’t lasted as long as they have because they’re amazingly original games that nothing has ever been able to surpass. They’ve lasted this long because of how straightforward and entertaining they are as ways to pass the time. These videogames will continue to be played 30 years from now for the same reason. Games like Halo, Metal Gear, God of War, Grand Theft Auto, etc. require a larger investment and thus they will eventually fall out of popularity as developers continue to push their respective genres forward from where they took it. I don’t doubt that I’ll boot up Halo and God of War on my 360 and PS3 emulators once in a while 30 years from now. I think quite a few people will, but everybody is going to play Tetris on their cell phone at some point.
But hey, if you actually think that 30 years from now game developers will still be struggling to outdo Pac man...well...whatever.
