Hell naw, real grindcore kicks ass. This mathcore garbage that's currently popular is about as grind as Fall Out Boy is emo.

I hate just about anything with "core" or "o" at the end of it. Such as "metalcore" and "grindcore" or "screamo". To me it's all garbage with no real talent.

Yeah a lot of the really weird and stupid sub genres of metal are absolutely shite.

crust punk grindcore blows. there are a few decent deathgrind bands but overall grindcore in general is garbage imo.

Dropdead

Have you heard Siege - Drop Dead? I'm like 90% sure that's where they got their name from. It owns in any case, especially considering it came out in 1984.

and I disagree with burningcow, I think the best grind is still closer to punk than metal. Crude SS (probably still more crust than grind, wutevr), old Napalm Death, Siege, etc... I do love me some Assück, though.

symphony in peril, i guess you could refer to them as grindcore-and they kick ass very hardly...listen to them and even though you might not like the music there is talent to be heard in it

same with other bands...dillinger escape plan, a life once lost-they have talent

I don't "hate" grindcore. I don't believe in using that term so loosely, because I think it's stronger than most let off. But yes, I do agree it is a shit genre.

And I'm into a lot of strange and inaccessible stuff. I still say that music has never been better with Merzbow. But come on, that shit was meditative and seemed to have an empowering feel to it. Grindcore is just garbage. I suppose I'll never understand what people like about it.

This shit singlehandedly killed metal.

Boy, do I ever hear phrases like this a lot. To tell you the truth, I don't think anybody or anything killed heavy metal, because I seriously think that the heavy metal scene has always kind of been a joke. Anyone who looks around enough will notice that heavy metal bands are still alive, thriving, and spawning by vast numbers, and generally everybody's favorite metal gods (Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth, Black Sabbath, etc) are still kicking ass and making records. But even with that aside, it's always said everywhere that bad bands with heavy, detuned guitars are the "death of metal". If every obnoxious band with detuned guitars gets a slot in the "metal" kingdom (or the "poseur metal kingdom, for that matter), what chance in hell does using such a stupid label have being credible anymore? With that attitude, metal never was born.

None of those bands are grindcore; although Dillinger is wonderful.

Some decent grind bands are...

Pig Destroyer
Genghis Tron
Daughters!
Nasum

To be honest, I'm not even sure what Grindcore is... There are so many sub-genres and so much shit flinging about which band plays what according to each individual's own definition of his favourite extreme sub-genre that I've just fucking stopped trying to keep up.
Now I tend to judge each band as I hear them on their own merits and without giving a shit what 'genre' the band supposedly belongs to. Anyhow...

Sezril mentioned Napalm Death, and I have two of their albums. They're OK in small doses, but I'm not a great fan.
I've heard a few of the other bands mentioned in this thread, and I'm not particularly struck by any of them.

So there.

Very good points.

Also, I actually like a couple of Napalm Death's albums. The funny part is, however, the only Napalm Death albums I really enjoy are a few of the mid-90's ones (which are all more slowed down and polished up), as opposed to the fast, raw, short-lived bursts that the band are most known for (particularly on Scum).

Metal isn't dead because I haven't killed it yet. Just wait... In a few years metal will be known as GlutSow.
