anyone know the secret??
how the fuck do cops make their cars so fast? i was going 90 on the freeway and i see 2 cars on the side of the road. an intreped and a crown vic. i never thought they were cops so i just flew by. and 3 seconds later i see them on my tail with their lights on. i was still going 90 at that time. i was like wtf..???
then i got pulled over. the end
i know those cop cars have those big ass 5.0 L engines, but how the fuck do they make them go so fast? anyone know the estimate of the HP on those cars?

they have something called like the prusuit package, where its like pretty much a modified engine that can run at high speeds for a long time.

good post pat and good question.. they have the "interceptor" package.. what that consist of however is a mystry to me.. i remember seeing a mustang in flordia a while back that was getting ready to be auctioned off that didn't have anything removed from it yet like the radio, 12gage, etc... the engine looked stock except for a roots type supercharger on it... it looked like an eaton if I had to guess which usally from what i've seen put out either 6 or 8psi depending on the package. again not sure if this is what the use but on this one trooper stang it was which was cool. The guy there siad that they used to use the notchbacks to keep up with the porches on the highways..

Yeah, my Dad's Ford has the Interceptor package. This isn't his, but basically the same thing...

Haha, Intrepid's and Crown Vic's with 5.0s? Do your research, dumbass. And by research, I don't mean typing, "imports are better than domestics" into every search engine on the net trying to find someone that agrees with you.
Guys, google Project54....we don't have to manually flip everything on anymore (saving time), just step on the gas and catch your ass. :D Brain, has your dad told you about that? I think it started around the end of last year.

No, haven't heard about that. Either way, they wouldn't get anything new around here for a few years. We're just now getting the tazer guns.

No none of those police cars are supercharged. (I'm talking major cities maybe some country cop that services his car in his front yard supercharged his for shits and giggles but a huge fleet wouldn't fuck with that) Crown Vics are dogs compared to the old 94-96 LT1 powered Chevy Caprices.
The 2005 Crown Vic has pushed up to 250 horsepower out of the 4.6 modular engine, the last few years have been 235 for the police spec. With 250 ponies it won't be as bad as it used to be but we are talking about high 7 low 8 seconds to 60 here nothing earth shattering.
They can all go 130 miles an hour at least the old Caprice was good for 140 the cars without lightbars are faster ;) So he was just nailing the gas and you were going 90 if he keeps accelerating he'll catch you no problem.

you also have to remember that when they pull some one over or stop some one for drag racing they impounded the car.... And not only that but most the time they take it. Almost every state police has drag cars that people made them selfs and then got taken away..... NYPD has two 900hp mustangs on there force

The city cops where I live, though assholes, have a cool car. Not exactly sure the year, but it's an older Camaro that belonged to a drug dealer. It's as pimped out as a conservative town like this allows.

Just a few months ago the Italian Police got this Lamborghini Gallardo (http://www.repubblica.it/2004/b/motori/gallerie/lamborghini/gallardopolizia/6.html) to chase the faster cars on their roads. They even got it FREE from Lamborghini if I'm not mistaking. Not sure if they're allowed to do the fishtail-manoeuvre with it though.

In Va. it's mostly Crown Vics and Impalas. They have a few Intrepids and I've even heard of them using Cavaliers, but never seen one. It really doesn't matter how fast they, or you can go. You can't outrun the radio.

They don't put blowers on police crown vics, the engine would shit at 75k miles or earlier with the use it would get............
Most police packages are nothing but a heavy duty air filter, a hi amp alternator, heavy duty starter, etc etc. They're all accessory differences for the most part (well for the camaro it was because it didn't need fucking mods to move). The crown vic needed work though. 300 hp out of those crown vics is decent though, but YOU WILL NOT BEAT A ZO6 WITH IT. It's called not racing. You think people are going to run a crown vic at the light?
The chevy impalas can't have anywhere near 300 horse though, as they can't put an 8 into them, and they wont strap a blower to it........

AND YES we won that car weighs so much its not even funny i be it tips the scales at 5800 pounds. what do u think it weight smartass. those cars are not fast at all. Oh yea and maybe the z06 wasnt full throttle cuz it didint expect to beat a 6 banger but ya we had till about 80 and passed us but later he was just crusin at 140 and we were there right behind him the whole time at 140. cock

What car are you talking about, because i don't think any cars were 5800 lbs, onld wagoneers and suburbans weighed like 6000 and no car came even close to that.

Barrett
08-17-2004, 07:29 PM
Well you are far from the truth, the curb weight on one of these things is 3,400 lbs, which is in fact 400-500 lbs lighter than a Crown vic. It's smaller and has a smaller engine then a Crown Vic. And there is no way possible that it is faster than a Crown vic, specially a police one. Which has 250 hp to your 200, and is RWD to your FrontWD.
Edit: Here's proof.

did u not see my original post? OUR sable has a police computer from one of those cars and is pushing 245 haev u though about the extra weight from the police stuff in the car? like the computer? radio stuff? hmm that adds up u know witht he ability to check peoples profiles in there car? alot of weight has been added to those cars plus whatever they have in the back the cage and in the trunk, gear, stopsticks, whatever they weigh alot. trust me ud be suprised how fast my dads car is
Ps u see the axle gear ratio our car has 3.98and the weight is 3,325lbs to the crown vic? also 3,917lbs 2.73 i believe this is a MAJOR factor also
Barrett
08-17-2004, 07:59 PM
But my major point was that it isn't 5800 lbs. Oh well. But the scanning stuff and radio stuff barely adds 50 lbs so that's not a major factor. But having RWD opposed to FWD is a major factor for speed. but i bet your sable like that would be pretty quick. I had not read your post about it having 245 hp

Im not shittin you, man. Dead serious theres two local stations that have a few cars with LS1 conversions. I've seen them in action, and they are fast. Unless of course that big red engine cover that says LS1 on it isnt really an LS1......dumbass. And, yes, Howard County is the 7th richest county in America. Police departments that use Crown vic's use the P71 (CVPI) which is the "Police Interceptor" package. What it contains is a 5.0L supercharged V8 engine, with modfied suspension, and sport brakes. They are also installed with Chips that make the car go faster then what the general public would have. So if you think you can outrun a Vic, think again. If you do manage to, you may outrun a car, but you cant outrun a radio.

Yeah, the county makes some serious money for new schools. They pretty much shun older schools. Like Howard, 50 years old and its finally getting redone.
Yeah, the LS1 is supposed to be a secret thing they have, to suprise anyone who decides to run away. My friend works there, and he gave me a little tour of the place.

Wrong..... nice try though they use a 4.6L tuned to 250 hp (for this year previous was around 235) with some extra cooling and a higher amp alternator. Christ Michigan tests the cars every year. There hasn't been a 5.0L Ford engine in a car in nearly a decade ('95 mustang)
It is staggeringly idiotic how dumb some of you guys are when all the info is readily available.

What car are they putting the LS1 into pray tell. Don't feed me some bullshit about how they are stuffing a chevy v8 into a Ford...
The Caprice has been dead since '96 and a few are still out there because the LT1 was well loved. Many counties send their old cars to be reconditioned because it is cheaper than buying a new car. Again many did this with the caprice because they were much faster than the Crown Vic.
Police departments dont' want things that are unproven or that break... they are heavy fleet use sometimes 24 hours a day this isn't conducive to superchargers and stuffing aftermarket engines in cars that weren't ever designed to house them.
Show me a picture of a non F-body car that uses an LS1 in regular police use. DARE cars are for show.

Wow 5k for a 1992 is very steep, I hope he got a 94-96 because those are the LT1 cars and yes they do haul. You just have to decode the vin and make sure you get an LT1 car because the 4.3L V8 is the same casting and looks nearly identical under the hood. Lots of people try to pass them off as LT1 cars ;)
You can usually pick up an 9C1 (police package) 94-96 Caprice for 3-7k depending on the usage and miles of course.

Haha, that's awesome, Tina.
Here in Arkansas a few years back we had a guy called The Blue Light Rapist (http://www.snopes.com/horrors/mayhem/fakecop.htm).
Since then others have used similar ruses to isolate their victims. More recently, in 1997 Arkansas was plagued by its "blue light rapist" who assaulted three women after first luring them to the side of the road with the help of a police-style blue light mounted on his car. Robert Todd Burmingham was sentenced in 1998 to 80 years in prison for rape, kidnapping, and aggravated robbery.
Yeah...so civilian owned cop cars can be bad.

They "sometimes" use impounded cars to arrest ricers.

Congratulations, jackass. I said around here. Here as in "Central Maryland," not "Orange County, Florida." You sir, are fucking stupid.
Besides that, you revived a thread to talk shit using a car you probably dont have, and double posted to make yourself look stupid.

hehe ohh soo true, idk though i've outrun a cop or two in my day, actually neither one were at night, goes to show that not all fast racing is at night (even though i was an idiot for doing this in braud daylight)
you would be suprised though about cop cars, even with low 300's in bhp and torque then can hang with fast cars, such as porsches and camaro ss' but cops don't need much to get your plate info you can get ahead of them and lose them but chances are by that time they have your plate number
by the way, crown vic's are not slow, especially the interceptors (they can fly) i hate how people assume that cop cars are stock and slow. I've seen video's of a crown vic interceptor keeping up with a 88' 911 turbo. that was crazy...
anyway, point: you can outrun cops, but 1-it's very hard 2-they can still get your plate and 3-cops know all the moves to get you down no matter what
so don't try to outrun cops, ever...

Supercharged cop cars? lol. They aren't that fast.. Maybe if you drive a stock import they seem fast to you on the highway. I've outran cops at night. As long as they don't see my license plate, I am gone!!!!!!!

Cops really don't care about getting your plate number if you blast by them. A car color, and make is about all they need to radio ahead "I got a blue mustang hatchback traveling southbound" and BAM!
They don't care what your plate is. Unless you're in a field of blue mustangs of course. Or in your case Camaro's. I see people getting snagged all the time that way. A cop see's a car coming, and signals him to pull over because they already spotted him out miles ago and just radioed to the cops up ahead.
Those police cars are awesome. Considering they weigh a shitload more than a factory CV. Do not underestimate the interceptors. They have that cool name for a reason :)

haha. Try living across the street from my neighbor. No parking on my side of the street right. Only on his. We all have driveways, but my house has 5 cars in a 4 car driveway, so automatically since one of my cars has the motor out, my daily driver doesn't get dibs on the driveway. I have to park on the street. Normally I do, but we also have a lot of college students on my street. Since they all have seperate cars, they can't all park in their 2 car driveway. So the parking on the street is pretty slim as it is. What makes it worse is the guy across the street, 4 car driveway, 2 cars, parks them both on the street...
Ok, so, when I'm running back and forth, I'll park my car on the sidewalk outside my house. No biggie, I'm only running in for a second. Cops NEVER come down my street, so I shouldn't be bothered. I go in the house for 5 minutes. EVERYTIME I come out there's 1, sometimes 2 tickets on my car. FIVE minutes I'm in my house and tickets come from seemingly nowhere. It's the guy across the street calling the cops.
He also has them run plates when there's a non-residents vehicle parked on the street for any length of time. Like my grandmother is in the hospital, so I've got her van for the week. He already asked the guy next to me whose van it is, and the cops came down once to check the plates on it.
Ontop of him being a dick, he's two faced. He tries to act like your buddy face to face. His wife is no better. My friends little brother used to deliver our paper, and one day I took his bag and hung it on a phone poll just messing around. Probably 2 minutes of harassment. Well this dudes wife got pictures of everything. She was literally sitting by the window snapping photo's of me "harassing" this kid. I gave him his bag back, since I had no intentions of keeping it up there. I was just busting his balls like I normally do. They're just sick people across the street.
Anyway, I bank about 200 bucks a month in parking fines because of all this. I've had one car impounded (my favorite vehicle I ever had) and the price to get it out was more than I could afford, so it was gone forever. Me and my buddies like to park our cars outfront of his house, so he's forced to use his driveway, then we just walk everywhere for a couple days ;)

My dads 00' sable with a 24v DOHC and a police computer in it from the dealer (hes got a lot of connections) and my dad knows some cops and my dad raced a cop at a stoplight and at the next light 1500' my dad was about 8 car lengths ahead of him we smoked a z06 vette to about 80 then he pulled away and we can go over 140 mph its pretty bitchin for a 6 cylinder i might make a vid of it one day along with our 70' olds 442
I'm sorry but I have to raise the BS flag.
1) The Sable was never available with a Police Package. In 1990-1995 the Taurus was.
2) The engine management computer was the same on the Taurus as it was on the Taurus with a Police Package.
3) Unless your dad was running Nitrous or a Turbo/Super Charger, there is no way on gods green earth he beat a Z06 to 80mph.
4) As was mentioned earlier; Police Packages are mostly just higher amp alternators (for the additional electronics), plain wheels, better suspension and all the weight adding other things needed for a squad car.
Chevy produced the B4C option for the Police interceptor Z28 based Camaro. It added nothing to horsepower and with the added weight was not as quick as a Camaro anyone else could own.
Ford produced the Mustangs with the P71 option. See Camaro for description.
Many years ago there were high performance Police cars. But these were not produced by the Manufacturers. The departments took cars and modified them.
Today there are departments with highly modified cars. However, most of them are used for demonstration/Public Relations cars and run only on drag strips. I know of a few departments in the south that have taken drug siezure cars and use them undercover. Some of them are pretty badass.
I know of one Kieth Black prepared 1970 Corvette in Kingsville Texas. It is a monster but they don't use it for interceptor use. The Chief of Police in Kingsville drives a siezed Jaguar.
Chances are the orignal poster got caught by Radar/Radio. It's not uncommon for departments to set an unmarked car on the side of the road, equipped with radar. Then place other cars further down the road waiting for the word to stop a car. The cars that catch you, you never see. They hide at on ramps and start accelarating to catch you before you even pass the off ramp side.
You guys should learn to read what the Law Enforcement people on this forum say. They live it every day and know better than anyone else. Especially some guy who makes up unbelievable stories about what happened in his fathers fictionally modified Sables?!

....anyway.
My auto maint. instructor was tellin me about back in the 70's when he worked on police cars regularly, and there was a period in time where they were stressing gas mileage, so the cop cars had just horrible performance, and they were also becoming unreliable. So anyway the police chief brought his car into the garage and wanted them to boost the performance, cuz he really didnt give a shit about the gas mileage. So my instructor put different heads on it. And he said when he started it up...the whole car just shook side to side and just plain roared. He took it for a test drive and it was just a badass car. Later on after that all the deputys were bringin in their cars for new heads :D

Excellent post. I don't know why the myth of ultra powerful police cars persists, especially since the Michigan State Police began posting the results of their annual police vehicle testing on the internet. This link was posted by BigM earlier in this thread, but since a bunch of people obviously didn't read it, I'll post it again:
For facts, not urban legend click here (http://www.michigan.gov/msp/0,1607,7-123--16274--,00.html)
I've personally driven various police cars over the years:
Early 70's Plymouth Gran Fury 440: slow
Late 70's Gran Fury 360: very slow
Mid 80's Dodge Diplomat 6 cylinder: agonizingly slow
Mid 80's Crown Vic 351: damn slow
Mid 90's 9C1 LT1 Caprice: respectable, but certainly not fast
I haven't driven any police cars recently, but the MSP testing says it all: police cars aren't any faster than their civilian counterparts.
Oh, and a Sable couldn't beat a Z06 with 3 plug wires disconnected.

Most cars really sucked in the 70's, even the police cars. The muscle car era was over. The cost of fuel, fuel crisis, and emissions really brought down the HP and performance in everything. It wasn't until TBI and MPI came along that cars were now reaching better HP and emissions with better fuel economy.
