How much better are the graphics on PS3? (only ps3 exclusive games eg. Grand Turismo. If anyone has looked at screens for that game. Its outta control it look real. I dont think 360 is on that level.

And the fact that its Blu-ray. I would love to watch movies on blu-ray.

Right now, blu-ray is probably the biggest selling point of the PS3. So far, there honestly haven't been any games released that really outdo the 360 in the graphics department (or the gameplay department for that matter). Gamespot has done some features where they have the PS3 screenshot of a game, then they have the same (or similar) picture taken of the same game on the 360, and the difference is usually minimal, if there is any difference at all.

As long as you're willing to wait for the big PS3 games to come out, it's a solid purchase.

That said, I still don't know why people just don't buy both systems. I understand they are both expensive, but just save up for one, then save up for the other. They both are going to have a great library of games in time and they both have their advantages.

Good choice, ps3 is expanding into a fantastic console. GT5 is gonna own, don't forget to check out heavenly sword and warhawk. Great games.

VI. REMARKS
We have explored moving pixel shaders from the GPU to
the Cell/B.E. processor of the PLAYSTATION®3
computer entertainment system. Our initial results are

computation from the GPU effectively increases the frame
rate, or more likely, the geometric complexity of the models

This represents worst-case behavior for any memory

This will enable the Playstation 3 to out do its own GPU limitations, giving games much more advanced lighting without the usual performance hit resulting in a far more detailed and smoother visual experience.


RSX might lag behind the Xenos, however the Cell give the RSX a nitros boast. The Cell is proving to do more than what Sony believe it could do, with the implementation of the Edge graphics tool and further experience from developers, the Cell will prove itself.

I don't really care for number/spec/graphics comparisons when it comes to video games, but I just can't get over how impressed I am with the dev's at Ninja Theory for the things they were able to pull off in Heavenly Sword. They managed to create two of the biggest battles ever seen in a game, with literally thousands of enemies on the screen, each of them running on their own physics, dynamic shadows and light reflections, as well as A.I. (which is actually REALLY intelligent in this game as enemies regularly dodge arrows, projectiles, and even attacks; many of which are deflected and/or counteracted by said enemies.)

How they managed to accomplish that with all the explosions and effects going on (did I mention the overcasted sky above casts shadows on the ground as well?) without having a drop in frame rate is beyond me at this point. I don't know if it was the "Cell" at work or whatever, but I'm damn impressed. This is how all next-gen games should be. Just fucking impressive on several different levels.

The Xbox 360 has better Graphics, nothing huge and no massive difference but in the end the 360's GPU pips the RSX.

Also, Blu-Ray doesn't equal games, the fact you only found one game that looks interesting on the PS3 is story of that big 'ol consoles life. Why buy a games console for one game and a format that is still stuck in a war that will pretty much never end? Do yourself a favour and buy a video games console that actually has whats on the label...Games.

My personal opinion is that the 360 is the better buy, right now.

So, if I were in you, I'd get the 360. Then, not long after, I'd start saving up for a PS3. That way, by the time you're ready to get the PS3, Sony should be about to launch their big titles. Then you'll have the best of both worlds and you wont be stuck with a system that forces you to wait for the great games to be released.

If you look anywhere on the internet, anywhere at all, you can never get a direct comparison of the Xenos and RSX because they ARE like apples and oranges. Most of the time, all you get is a picture comparison of the graphics, and most of the time, the Xbox360 comes out ahead. I know it's a little complicated, but the Xenos has a unified architecture, and with a direct comparison, the RSX has 24 pixel and 8 vertex pipelines and a total of 56 total shaders. The Xenos has 48 pipelines and 96 total shaders. The RSX is limited to a max 48 pixel shaders and 8 vertex shaders, but the Xenos can use any mix of shaders to total 96 without being limited by the max number of pixels or vertices it can process.

Now that looks impressive. Reading over the notes, Sony says they can use 5 SPE cores to do the calculations of 20 pixel shaders to add to the 24 pipelines in the RSX. The biggest problems I see with that are first, the cell, even though it has more than one core, is still an in order processor. By comparison, a dual core processor can process 2 threads with 8 instructions at a time. The Cell can process 8 threads with 8 instructions at one time. You take away 5 cores from the Cell, and you're left with something comparable to an extremely fast single core processor. Not much of a disadvantage, I know, but it's still a noticeable difference.

Second, the RSX has a little more complex architecture than just pixel shaders in a pipeline. There are actually 2 shader cores with 2 more processors to prevent slowdown of the first two, and a 5th processor for handling vertex texture mapping. From the link you provided, it looks like Sony was only able to simulate 20 shaders using 5 of its 8 cores, when compared to 48 shaders from the RSX. Still yet, that's comparible to 34 shader pipelines, but with all that power, 68 pixel shaders and 8 vertex shaders doesn't compare to 96 total unified shaders. And even if I'm wrong, and the Cell can use 5 SPEs to simulate 20 pixel shaders to add to the 24 from the RSX, and the PS3 has 96 total shaders to compare to the Xenos' 96 shaders, the Cell is still using 5 SPEs and is left with 3 total cores for 3 threads, which again puts the PS3 behind the 360 with it's 3 dual threaded cores.

The third and most obvious problem I see with it, is that the news comes from SCEA. The same people that got 2 Tflops out of a 300some Gflop processor. With their best case scenario overly optimistic attitude, I'll have to wait until I see it in action before I actually believe it.
