[Rumour] Microsoft close to MGS4 + FFVIII Deals?

The reports of Final Fantasy Versus XIII heading to the 360 have been circulating for nearly the last month after it was revealed that at least parts of the White Engine were being ported to Microsoft's console. Speaking to EMagLive we were told by a source close to Microsoft that the Redmond company was in productive discussions with the Japanese developer Square Enix to "at least get [Final Fantasy 13] as a timed multiplatform and at most get the game as a simultaneous release".

This week Nomura was interviewed by Famitsu, but no new details have emerged. Here's a translation I wrote:

· Nomura was never involved in the creation of any Final Fantasy title as deeply he is right now, and he likes the fact he can take Final Fantasy Versus XIII where he wants it to be.

· Nomura says the PlayStation 3 hardware plays a huge part in the development of both projects, and by using it "all visions can come true". He says that visual-wise both Final Fantasy XIII and Versus XIII are superior from any former title in the franchise, and they are "close to perfection".

· As in any interview, Nomura was asked about the game's exclusivity. This time he mentioned that the TGS 2007 trailers had the writing "for PlayStation 3 ONLY". He says it's an advantage for one team to concentrate on one console, even if some fans are disappointed.

Btw, the white engine is for other games from SE.

Meh, if they did get the games, it would be the final nail in PS3's coffin. Even if they don't, the PS3 is still going to have to fight to keep it's head above water.

I actually hope they don't. This is coming from a guy who loves the MSG/FF series and only owns an xbox.

Microsoft having both of these blockbusters would spell the end for Sony in it's console race. Not only that, but it would put ungodly amounts of pressure on the Nintendo. Maybe not in this generation... but how will the next one look? With Xbox having EVERY major title minus Mario. It would be atrocious and MS would seem the only choice.

It may even spell the end of Nintendos reign in the future. And a goodbye to competition between consoles and the motivation to make good games.
