In 2004 I had a crap computer(And still do)I really wanted to expierence the half life series that everyone says is so amazing but I never got around to it.Instead of that game I instead focused on the Halo series and I loved everything about it.The music, gameplay, graphics and defiantly the story. Now that I have a 360 I can now play half life for the first time.So after beating the whole Halo series and now starting on the half life series will I get disappointed by the gameplay, graphics and story because Halo outshines it???What makes half life 2 better?I really like creepy atmosphere, does this have lots like I hear???

Half life seems better than halo, but I wouldnt know seeing as how I haven't played halo 3 single player yet. HL2 is really long too, so its all up to you.

Half-Life pwns Halo in every aspect.
1)As a FPS
2)Storyline
3)Multiplayer (Counter-Strike)
4)As being more revolutionary

Yea CS was bigger then any of the halo games. Which is an accomplishment since more people are console gamers then pc gamers these days.

Unless you're a complete, 100% graphics whore, you will enjoy Half-life 2. I can't think of any reason why you wouldn't like it.
I just could never get into the Half-Life games. The story was never there for me (I felt absolutely NO connection to it), the gameplay was dull, but the graphics were pretty good - i'll admit that. But unfortunately, good graphics don't equate to a good game.
Halo > Half-Life anyday. Just take Spawn's list, flip it around, and you'll get how I feel. Halo is just a better series.

I like both stortlines equally. You can't even really compare the two. Half-life's story is told by your interaction, you are Dr. Freeman. In Halo, you play as Master Chief, but the story plot is told through cutscenes.

I agree with sKin about Half-Life. Generally it was just really boring for me.

Half-life 2 single player was way too boring for me. Even on hard difficulty the game is a complete snooze fest as compared to Halo on legendary. I was going to try some of the extreme difficulty mods released for it...but the game has vista woes so I can't say anything about that. Once they release a patch I might give it another try.
Story wise I've never gotten very much out of Half-life 2. As I've said before, it sort of reminds me of the matrix sequels in that it seems to have some pretty cool ideas and concepts...but it's way to vague and doesn't really tell its story in an engaging way. Course people say the same thing about Halo...so whatever. Go ahead and pick it up. Enough people have called it the greatest game ever to at least give it a try.
Edit:
On a side note, another good thinking man's shooter with excellent gameplay and an amazing storyline is Deus Ex. I would recommend that one to anybody. Even with the outdated graphics I played through it a month or so ago and enjoyed it just as much as ever.

I enjoyed Halo much more. Especially Halo 3's Legendary, it's a blast. Although they're both FPS's, they are actually really different in terms of engine and game universe.

Half life's story is more complicated then the halo story. The single player I enjoyed more then halo 3.
Although you can't count counter- strike, or any of those games as half life 2's multi player. All they have in common is the same engine.:rollseyes
Half life 2's actual multi player is pretty boring, so halo 3 would have to win in the part.

Half-Life 2 single player is waaaaaay better than Halo 3's. by a fucking long shot. its about twice as long too.
but halo 3 multi-player is better. that's if you don't count all the mods that you can get for HL2. if you get HL2 you get CS for free. and there are some really good free and purchasable mods that are over all better than Halo

Are you trying to suggest that the two games aren't comparable? Because I think they are... (Story-driven FPS games)

Nope, only that the enjoyment one 1 item doesn't have much effect on the enjoyment of another.

I remember on G4TV when they had that contest between HL2 and Halo 2. They had people call in and voice their opinions, and whichever game had the most support would win. Even G4 said that they thought HL2 was the obvious better game.
But caller after caller would come in and talk about Halo. Most of them would spout off features of Halo 2. When asked what features they didn't like about HL2 they would just say things like "Uhh, I just didn't like it." Pretty obvious a bunch of drooling fanboys wouldn't dare take heat from another game.
Of the two? I take it you guessed I would side with Half-life. The game was a legend back in the day, and Half-life 2 was a great sequel. Maybe not the behemoth HL1 was, but still superior.
Halo: CE had a chance to be considered great, until H2/H3 came out.

Ehh, years ago I would have said Half-Life 2, but now that I've played Half-Life 1... fuck that shit.
Now I havent played HL2 in a while, but Half Life HAS way more pussles that its sequal, like HL2 had close to none. The only one I remeber was the fucking cinderblocks on the wooden plank one. Wow, a puzzle to get up an incline that could be easily climbed over, or spasm-jumped rather. Fuck you.
The combat in HL2 was fun, but it did get boring, HL1's fighting was more intense methinks.
In terms of just blowing up shit, I prefer Halo, but for immersion, story and such I'd go for Half Life.
Half Life is also more unforgiving than 2, the trash compacter part comes to mind. Better get up those fucking crates now... TOO LATE! FUCKING DEAD. I'll just have a nice calm drive on this tram... ZOMG TRACK BROKEN! THROUGH THE WALL! FUCKING DEAD.

Only one I could remeber, had'nt played it in awhile. I do remeber that It did'nt really have the same level of immersion as number 1. And was shitloads harder. I'll have to play HL2 again to really compare them.

I didn't really enjoy HL as much as Halo, but that's just me, try it for yourself. Most people on this forum are going to have black and white opinions. I.E "Halo sux, hl pwns it any day" or "Halo pwns hl like the red-headed step child it is."

Again also although they are both FPS's, they are hard to compare.
Half life's singleplayer is built more around puzzles, where as halo is more linear and blowing up shit.
Either way they are both fav games of mine, I still play half life 2 alot.

From what i gather multiplayer is where its at with halo 3, and single player is short and aint that great, whilst HL2 is one of the best single player FPS ever, and probably has better graphics than halo 3 too.

Okay, see, here's where I draw the line. I'm totally willing to admit that I loved Halo 3. But the second you tell me that it has a better single player experience than Half-Life, that's absolutely insane. If you compared them side by side, you'd have to be a nutbag to say that Hale Life wasn't the deeper story. I would be willing to bet that more people would even say Half Life 1's story was deeper than any of the Halo series.
Come on people, leave the fanboy crap at home. I'm starting to realize this, so now you all have to as well. Anyone on the planet can see that Half Life had the better story, and I have played through both Halo and Half Life.

If you are looking for a real fun solo experience( and a hard one too). Get all the skulls on Halo 3, and turn them all on and play on the legendary difficulty, the game becomes almost impossible then. Is a little easier with the blind skull not on. But that is some good fun shit, itll have ya goin for a while

No way! There will be no disapointment.
HL:2, which I am replaying this week, has such a.. cool, creepy theme to it.
Marshalls law and such..
It's not suppose to be as action intensive as Halo 3. But, don't get me wrong... HL:2 is a fun filled shooter. The ability to pick basically anything up, break it and pick up the peices is amusing.
I just love the 'feel' of HL:2 over Halo3.

Only because Deus Ex and System Shock were similar. In fact, System Shock 2 and Deus Ex were not all that different. Certainly the plot was, and the means of upgrading and augmentation, but other than that, it wasnt all that different.
