So I was playing GHIII tonight, and about an hour in, while I was playing "Reptilia," the game freezes. It had been doing this recently, but for this entire day it had been fine. Why is this happening? I just got my Xbox back from the repair thing (I think they sent a new one), so this behavior is strange. Does anyone know what the problem could be? Could it be overheating or something? It usually seems to happen around when the Xbox has just been played for a little while. I'd really like to solve this problem and get back to GHIII.

EDIT: Maybe I need to buy one of those cooling fans?

When you say a "new" one does that mean it has the same specs as your previous Xbox 360 or is it like the new platinum version with HDMI out.

Same specs as old 360, just a replacement... I'm pretty sure it's a replacement, at least.

maybe its the disc reader

That was the problem with my last Xbox, I'd get the "Disc read error."

It freezes at all random points though, and it seems that the longer it sits, the longer it will play before freezing. I just played for about 20 minutes before it froze again, instead of right at one of the loading screens.

Maybe its getting too hot inside. Buy those fans and see if anything changes.

Don't buy a fan, they suck and can actually break your xbox.

Well now we've got conflicting opinions.. what do I do?!?!?! I really don't want to send it back again wait for weeks... I just got this one back.

Keeping a frozen xbox will do you no good.

Check the disc, wipe it clean... Also, make sure the 360 isn't on any carpet; pretty much common sense though. Other than that, I'd send it in.

It's not the disc, as the system freezes with any game and even when there is no disc in. It's on a solid surface, but not one that's too sturdy (older shelf). Still, it worked for a good 9 months or so on it, and only now am I starting to have problems.

Sorry for double-post, but I have an update.

Well, I tried to do the system maintenance and all the stuff Microsoft listed online for troubleshooting, and I still have the problem. So, I sent them an e-mail, and I'm probably just going to have to send it back... again.

Do NOT buy a fan. They do more damage than help.

More than likely you have a bad laser/lens. Might as well just send it in for repairs.

Well, today I tried the towel trick, and had to turn it back every 10 minutes or so... which was strange.

Then, I got it to work, and after about a half hour it froze. I'm just going to send it in for repairs before I throw the Xbox out the window. It's so frustrating to freeze right in the middle of a song.

You should just send it back. There's no point in trying to 'work around' the problem.

Carpet will do harm to your 360 through static electricity or just making it overheat. You're better off stopping before waiting for it to hurt your 360.

I think my 360 is starting its path to destiny. For about a month now, whenever i try to turn the 360 on by pressing the open tray button the system turns on but the tray is still closed and i have to press it once or more times to open it. However if i go the dash board to open the tray then everything works fine. I also get random freezes on Madden occasionally but i expect that every once in a while. I don't have a cooler so what i do is take some xbox 1 games that i dont play anymore and make four seperate stacks and then I put them each under one corner of the 360, so air flows better.. i guess.
