This time I actually had to register just so i can correct this guy. That sound is the rear differential (ring and pinion) whining. Race car rear ends are setup like this for strength. Has nothing to do with the transmission (OR A SUPERCHARGER YOU MORON) even though you people should have noticed that buy listening to it get higher pitched even though he is up shifting.

Erm...True-rear diffs are setup strong...but the majority of the whine comes from straight cut gear sets within the tranny - which are stronger than their helical cut brethern. The Helical gears give you more constant tooth contact for smoother, quieter operation. But in actuality, there is less contact between helical gears than straight cut gears.

Well, if you watch when he shifts, he pushes the stick forward to shift up and pulls it back to shift down, or is it the other way around........ah screw it.

wet clutch it looks like. And are you sure it's the transmission because it's only high pitched when he is on the throttle. Reminds me of a supercharger my friend had who messured 89dB

That;s how it is in a M3/M5 too. they have paddle shifters also. and there is no clutch.
