View Full Version : IL2 Sturmovik: 1946
Does anybody else play this game? Its probably the best WW2 Combat Flight Simulator out there. I think the only competition to this game is Microsoft's Combat Flight Simulator, although I have never played that one.
I fly with a Virtual Squadron, II/JG53. We try to keep things relatively realistic. We fly only Coop missions against enemy AI. We are a German unit, and as such, we fly the Bf109-G2, and we typically go up against P-40's and Spitfires, with Bomber-Intercept missions in between.
Our campaign is dynamic, which means that what we do in a certain mission will directly affect us sometime in the future, depending on our performance.
If you guys are interested in joining us, or would like to know more about the game (You can buy it at a local Game store, or even download it from Direct2Drive.com) just visit us over at our Forums: http://citysmad.3.forumer.com/index.php?act=idx
Looking forward to seeing you guys there. =D

I just bought IL2: 1946 a few months ago. Being a flight-sim addict, I'd have to say it's the best combat sim ever made. Dunno why I waited so long to buy it.
One question, though. Where do you guys download those skins from? They're amazing!

I have the original or one of the first ones. It was pretty fun and worth the $7 I bought it for. I sucked dick at it, so I put it away.
Just about all of the skins that we use (Actually, I think all...) Are made by our Squadron Leader. =D
Aw, come on. Only two other people play IL2?

Man, if I had a decent computer anymore I'd love to get back in the seat of my FW-190D. Playing on the full real servers with this http://www.naturalpoint.com/trackir/ was the most fun I've ever had in a game. Flying for like 15 minutes just looking around for targets to pounce on while bullshitting with people on ventrilo is the best.
If you want you should check out World Ward II Online. It's an MMO where you can be either infantry, naval, armor, or air forces and fight for cities in the European theatre. I would only honestly recommend flying in that game because the graphics everywhere else are just shite. But the flight model and graphics for the planes are pretty damn good and the co-ordination you can achieve with a good team is just outstanding.
Wish my computer wasn't so damn outdated though :(.

How is it compared to Jane's WWII Fighters?

Blows it away if you have the computer for it.

Is it more realistic compared to Jane's? Because with Jane's, it was a miracle for me to get the plane off the ground. Anything more complicated and I probably wouldn't get into the damned cockpit. :p

Well it's a sim, but you can tone down the realism to basically any level you want. Although for the best experience I'd recommend eventually learning how to play on 100% Realistic.

lol In Jane's, I think I was more of a danger to myself (crashing into the ground while trying to strafe) than the enemy was. Good to see that realism can be brought down a notch, though. :)

IL-2 Sturmovik kicks ass, unfortunately atm i cannot be bothered to sort out a damn controller or joystick set up for it so itll have to wait until i play again. I miss blowing the shit out of bombers, but i also miss dropping 5000lb bombs on enemies airfields :).

It has a bit of a steep learning curve but if you put a little time in you'll get better, you just have to learn how to control the plane, when i first played i couldnt even take off, with some practice i was up in the sky then learning to fly properly, then i started learning some dogfightin, when i got my first kill it felt pretty earnt which is cool, seeing an enemy plane getting blown apart by your MG's and cannons never seems to get tiring.

I really want to play this game, but I don't have a joystick...
Is it playable with a keyboard as well? (And with that I mean actually staying in the air for more than 10 seconds.)

You can play with the keyboard, but with a $20 joystick, you'll get a lot more enjoyment out of it. I use a Logitech Extreme 3d Pro. The stick twists for the rudder control, which is nearly essential.
Hey Zieg, I also found the website to your group (I think). http://www.freewebs.com/jagdgeschwader53/
It's really cool that you guys are awarded medals and promotions. I'm thinking of joining up.

That joystick is pretty good, but this is the one I use to dominate the skies. I just need a new one after I punched it and it snapped at the base. :wah:

IL2: 1946 already includes all those patches and updates up to 4.07. All you have to do is download the 4.08 patch.
And fly online at Hyper Lobby (http://hyperfighter.sk/).
