Fallen Sword (http://www.fallensword.com/?ref=935281) is a web based MMORPG kind of like diablo. Just reached their millionth registered player recently. Tons of items, tons of upgrades, tons of quests, hour of fun, super addicting. If you join message me and I'll hook you up with some gold to get started. My name on the game is Supmet.

I beg to differ. Of course, these are just my opinion:
Shadowbane - Enormous world, fantastic PvP. Gank or be ganked gameplay. Interface has got a bit of a learning curve to it though, but you can easily max your level in a few days once you learn the game.
TRPG - Mod for Starsiege: Tribes (which is free now). Endless gameplay (no max level). And bashing is just too much fun! Nothing like smacking another player with a hammer and watching them fly a couple kilometers away.
Space Cowboy - Starfox-like MMO. A bit different this one. You fly in a ship, blowing stuff up for money and XP. There's actually a decent variety of enemies, and some fun PvP. The grind is definitely there though. This is one to pick up and play every once in awhile, kinda like Diablo 2. I like SC better personally.
Wulfram 2 - Crappy graphics, yes. The gameplay is quite amazing though. Plus, the community is built in a way to introduce you to the game slowly.
All of those should be easy enough to find on Google with a bit of searching. I could provide direct links for anyone too lazy to look.

Is this one of those games that gives you a certain number of turns per hour or something?
I hate those.

Space Cowboy looks pretty good. I'm going to look into this a little more.
Shadowbane doesn't stand out to me, but I'll take your word for it and I'll get around to that later(bookmarking the site for it)
Wulfram, not much is revealed about it on the site, so I'm not sure what to think about it, but I'll bookmark it for later.
I haven't played a good free mmo, but I don't really doubt their existence. I just said that to annoy the viral marketer.

Wulfram isn't an MMO. Sorry for the misconception there. It is, however, good, free, and online. It's somewhere between an action game and an RTS.
Shadowbane really shouldn't stand out. The basic setting behind it is pretty generic. However, the character building system in the game is one of the best I've seen (you CAN gimp your build of course, but I wouldn't worry about it too much on your first character. Just play, get to know some people and the way the game works, and then worry about getting a decent build). If you enjoy solid cut-throat PvP, you'll like Shadowbane. If you hate having to worry about getting ganked, and losing 200 grand that you just spent the last hour earning, you'll probably hate Shadowbane. Personally, that constant feeling that someone is breathing down your neck, waiting for the perfect moment to slip their knife between your vertebrae, really gets my juices flowing. Plus, there's player owned towns, and sieges against the player owned towns.

I like tense situations in games, and the player owned towns sound wicked. The idea of defending a town you help maintain sounds awesome. I fucking hate being ganked, but I can live with it as long as it happens because I've been playing sloppy.
I'll try it out when I play my fill of Space Cowboy.
