Launch Party
I attended the launch party last night for it. One of the better launch parties I went to. The whole mood was festive, as if all of Mario's fans have a mutual understanding, unlike the nasty crowd of Halo 3, with its whiny 13 year old brats and college age elitist bastards. Anyway, I managed to play it on one of the kiosks outside, They threw out free shirts (I got a less cooler version when picking up the copy, but I like it more, cause it looks more vintage, and in 20 years will look badass), they had a bunch of Mario clones and an actual guy in a suit the store put outside to dance to. There was a DJ, merch, festivities like games for little kids (the velcro wall and shit) There was even a sick laser show I missed out on, despite the inside of the store having a mini show while waiting online. Anyway, upon getting my bracelet (number 420, heh) we sifted into the line, which was actually organized according to number. The inside of the store was festive, with Mario 64 music playing in the background (the background music to the desert world, the ghosthouse, some sound effects). Upon picking up my copy, I was given a free T-shirt, and a commemorative coin for "pre-ordering" the game. I also got a button. The whole experience was a blast, from the moment of entering the store and on the journey home.
The Game itself...ooh man
Now, I'll admit it myself, I was one of the people who just knew the Mario game was coming up, but not giving it much thought. I also doubted it when I first saw it myself, and was worried about it being like Sunshine(which was good, but could've been better) However, a trailer was enough to pique my interest, as I ended up picking it up. The moment you load it into your Wii, it knocks you off your feet (as you click on the Wii disc window, a certain plumber yells from your speakers "SUPERRR MARRIO GALAAXYY".) Now to the game itself. I have to say, Nintendo has once again blown me off my feet. I've been neglecting my Wii since August, when I got the wii and zelda. But yes, I have to say, this is one of the best Mario games I've played. It's got the same format as 64, but the gameplay has been injected with steroids. The controls are flawless, don't worry, very responsive, and for this gameplay, the camera angles are flawless themselves. The game itself is fun, and you get lifted EVERY single time Mario flies to another planet/galaxy. Another thing that made me smile (for the hardcore old school Mario fans):The first prominent cutscene features certain "airships" laying siege on Princess Peach's castle, with the background music to boot. 10 seconds later, a certain wizard that casts geometric shapes at you screws you over royally. Good thing, otherwise the game would be much shorter. The game seems about the same length as 64, but to say that is insulting the game. Galaxy is Galaxy and should NOT be compared to 64, despite them having similar engines. It's understandable, considering you want to enjoy this to the same standard you did with 1,3,World, and 64. You will. This is also a game you'll end up playing through manyyyyy times, since last night I discovered you can get take alternate paths, unlock extra stuff, and just collecting everything. I have to say, after the release of Mario Sunshine back in the day, I questioned the future of our favorite mustachioed plumber. This game once again will have you cheering in the same high pitch Mario does multiple times in the game.

I have the game. I bought it on the 13th. It took a little while to get used to running around the smaller planets but it's still fun as hell to play.

I got a chance to play this all day today. Friend brought over his wii. Gotta say I really wasn't impressed. This game is so mind-numbingly linear. Want to get a new star? You have to click on a new part of the solar system(mind you most solar systems have 4-5 stars) and play a completely different part of the level just to run through and grab the star.
There is no grabbing multiple stars in one run-through, there is no deviating off of the course, or even multiple ways to grab a said star.
It's all one star, one path, one way.
They could've easily connected the solar systems together, and made it fun to explore the galaxies. This was just tedious.
There is no way in hell this deserves a better score than OoT

Yeah sounds like a classic boring mario game to me. I honestly don't see how anyone over the age of ten, or anyone with an IQ over 100 finds these games entertaining.
Maybe its because I wasted my NES days shooting ducks, I never played mario enough to get brainwashed into liking it.

Why 9.6? How do you rate games? Just throw a number out there that sounds like you really calculated something? What exactly took it down 4 per cent?
=)

Wtf is a "classic boring mario game." What other mario games did you find boring?
What does IQ have to do with playing games? Have you ever bought an FPS? Do you know that those are geared to the lowest common denominator of the market? (excluding the casual market, which is even more mind-numbingly stupid, by your logic)
Read your own reply and realize how idiotic it is. You don't have to be brainwashed to like a game. Honestly you sound like you're fucking retarded.

I am not glorifying my tastes. i just posted a simple review of a game i thoroughly enjoy, whose gameplay exceeds most games ive played lately, and even a week after playing every day, i still stand by it. and the 4 percent is for the occasional control wigout. for example, youre running to the underside of the planet and the camera angle switches so the direction youre running towards doesnt fit where youre moving the joystick. but seriously, this is a game you MUST check out, simply from one gamer to another.

this is by far one of the most ignorant posts ive seen. dont compare this game to mario 64. its the same format, but the gameplay is very different, very evolved. and who the hell you are to judge gamer IQ? you played duck hunt, nothings more degrading than having a scumbag nazi dog laugh at you.dont get me wrong, i enjoy duck hunt, but fuck that game compared to mario bros 1 and the REAL number 2(lost levels).

this is the only game for Wii i am not disappointed with all the same moves basically from N64 with a little tweaks like shooting fruit gushers and rolling on a super bouncy ball...but i also liked Mario Sunshine as well. not saying that i wasn't ashamed for people seeing me with a game with such a title but oh well it was a good game none the less.

if reviewers get paid, then they probably also get paid by opposition to bag on a game. and from what reviews ive read from every video game outlet, EVERYBODY mustve gotten paid. i honestly dont get what youre trying to get at..
