If I remember correctly, the sports section had one of these a year or two ago. Anyways, for those who don't know what I'm talking about, Around the Horn (http://espn.go.com/eoe/around_the_horn.html) is tv show on ESPN. Round by round they debate various items on the news (sport's wise). Eliminations do occur.

Rounds
Obviously, we will make this CE wise and reformat some things. So, here are the rules:

The First Word: Two current headlines are discussed. The panelists go into great detail and can also jump back in for rebuttals.

Buy or Sell: A rapid fire segment in which the panelists are asked to buy or sell (be for or against) three different concepts, also drawn from the relevant headlines.

1st Cut: The contestant with the lowest points total is eliminated. In the case of ties, the host will be in charge if the tie braker.

Out of Bounds: This round is dedicated to talking about one story which is indirectly related to issue in CE. They can be about philosophy or life. Serious topics are usually discussed in this round, and few to no points are awarded.

2nd Cut: The next contestant with the lowest point total is removed, leaving just two contestants.

Showdown: Mentioned above, the two remaining contestants take sides on any news stories remaining. There are two or three questions, depending on the amount of time left. Each topic is timed between 20 and 40 seconds each depending on time remaining.

Facetime: The winner of the showdown and therefore winner of that particular episode gets around 30 seconds to talk about anything he/she wishes to discuss.

Points

Points are awarded or taken from panelists at the discretion of the host depending on the strength or weakness of their arguments. The host is allowed to give points at his own discretion. The host may also give multiple points for "inside information" that he deems correct. Points may also be taken away for self-promotion, such as bragging.

This will be done via AIM, or some other chat program. It is supposed to be instantaneous and the results will be posted here.

Sounds like a good idea. I'll participate if I'm free at the time.

My concern is that people will bitch about the biasness of the host which is iffy since the host isn't necessarily "unbiased".

I just straight up don't understand. Seems like it would take quite a chunk of time to set up, participate, etc. Is this everyone sitting down at the same time? Can the host delete posts that are out of turn?

Splain, lucy!

it could be done similar to that of the CE Form Wars set up. people not involved in the debate would be banned for posting in that thread.

EDIT:For those of you not familiar to the forum war set up.

But Spike said it must be done over AIM because the panelists aren't suppose to have a lot of time to formulate their answers (at least, for certain rounds). Or is that just the final round with the last two contestants?
