Thought this would be an interesting topic :)

Medium

Hard just makes all games not fun, like the people that played Halo 3 on legendary for the first time. Fuck that's so boring, you have to waste half a clip on just those little guys.

Somehow they still beat it in similar times to players who use easy mode.

Well if I'm a noob to the genre I'd play it on easy but I normally play on medium.

Generally medium, then hard/hardest on my 2nd way through.

Most games on medium but I play Pro Evo on the highest setting because I'm good at it. Master League is still fucking hard (at the start) though, fucking awful players.

I put it on the hardest setting. This way it will be months before i beat the game and frustrate me to the point where I smash 20 controlers in the process. Total cost $559.99.

Depends on the game. There are very few games ever made where hard mode does anything other than make enemies stronger, which just sucks.

Example: The resident Evil series. On hard, the enemies were just as easy/hard to kill as they are on lower difficulties, the challenge lies in more often than not never having enough ammunition to feel safe, which makes the games more challenging but not in a frustrating way, in an interesting and enjoyable way.

Same with Metal Gear Solid. On hard and extreme the enemies aren't tougher to kill, they still take the same amount of bullets... They're just really smart, as opposed to lower difficulties where they're dumb as shit. Plus the radar is gone which means you realy feel like you're playing a tactical espionage experience and not a shoot-em-up.

On the other hand, you play, i dunno, a boxing game and put that on hard... Nothing has changed except every opponent is now extremely tough to the point of just being plain unfair. Hard shouldn't be about just making everything in the game tougher than you are, it should be about making you have to think about what you're going to do to progress, instead of on easy where you just keep running forward and sweeping every obstancle out of the way with ease without ever having to think about anything.

Too fucking true. Using pro evo as an example again I'd say it depends what mood I'm in when I play it. Normally I'd play it at hard, but if I don't have much energy and fancy just raping someone I'll drop it down to regular or even amateur if I want to score 10+ :D

FPS games I usually go easy-med-hard depending on how re-playable they are. If it's too easy though I will obviously just skip playing easy and go medium -hard.

Depends on the game. Usually medium or hard though.

Almost always Medium the first time through. It's usually how it should be played. Subsequent Metal Gears and Syphon Filters I usually played on Hard.

I would normally play on medium settings, but I usually play through on hard just so I can unlock more achievments at once.

I play games on slightly hard because it's more fun. Not because I suck, but because I hate the AI. In Halo, turning up the difficulty seems to only changes hit points and enemy accuracy. They still stand around like idiots, only now they hit you with incredible accuracy. Not that they don't ever take cover, but they hardly strafe at all. I hate the balance system. They don't move when a sticky flies at them but they dive out of the way if your throw is slightly off so they won't get hit with splash damage, they surround you in vehicles but take turns shooting you with them, etc. I find myself doing worse in campaign mode than people I can beat in multiplayer, simply because they are better at finding cheap tricks to defeat the AI. Then I jump in a mp game on xbox live and get my ass kicked a couple times until I readjust to enemies that can actually fucking move. Star Wars Battlefront AI evade, but they hold back; this is evident when they throw in a real sharp strafe that they should have been using more often. If I want to play a game without strafing enemies, I'll play the original Doom and enjoy it much more. The casual gamer may like enemies that stand still and shoot, but game producers, please, at least not taint the hardest difficulty settings with this crap.

Thats a great post.

I like a challenge, but its a game and i want to have fun playing. Thus, mostly medium 1st time through.

I did just get FIFA 08, and put it on easy though since its my first time with a game like that.

I just started playing Guitar Hero on Expert, but I've been playing that for awhile. I usually start off on normal until I beat the game. If I enjoyed it, I'll raise the difficulty. I beat Battle Tanx: Global Assault on Hard when I was younger and I felt soo accomplished...

I revised my post a little guys :dunce:
Anybody agree with the point I brought up?

I play it on medium first and then move on to hard.

It also depends on the game, but games such as Resident Evil 4 and God of war are definitely meant to be played on the hardest difficulty levels.

Should have been a public poll!

I usually play my first run-through on medium/normal; easy is usually too easy, and hard is usually too difficult if you don't know what you're doing. If I own the game I usually make it a point to try to get through the game on the hardest difficulty without dying.

I usually play games on hard or medium. Most games I play now I play on hard because they are all FPS games that make the AI harder to deal with, not harder to kill. I will play a game on hard if it just makes the enemies smarter, not stronger.

This question is so ambiguous it makes me cry. Usually I try games out on Easy first, then I work my way up to Hard. That's how it's always been for me lol. So I voted for Easy because I wanted to be a faggot.

a lot of games are doing 4 difficulties now; Easy, Normal, Hard, and Very Hard

sooo I usually do normal, then try Very Hard, and if I cant, then go back to Hard, then after all is said and done I will play easy for fun and fooling around.

I'll almost always start out on medium. Unless it's a series that I have experience, like starting on Hard in GH, or hardest setting on DMC3(fuck even thinking about that makes me frustrated). Sometimes if a game is boasted to be challenging i'll purposely start it on the hardest difficultly. But I play those games for the challenge.

If it counts I'll start out SMBB at Very Hard and lvl 9 CPU's, because it's something I can beat on Very Hard while still enjoying myself.

Usually medium to start, rarely is a single player game good enough for me to do it on hard again.

I was doing ML last night and although it makes it harder how on Earth can any people, especially PROFESSIONAL FOOTBALLERS be that fucking slow bar 3/4 of them. It's like they run in slow motion just to piss me off AAAAARRRRRGGGGGGHHHHHH :banghead:

Somehow I beat a team 5-1 with a lorra lorra luck.

Depends on the game really, first person shooters usually medium or hard. Hard on co-op just so it makes it interesting and medium on one player just so its not too one sided. But as for being new to the genre of course you go easy otherwise you'll just fucking hate it and get the wrong idea about the game.but of course there is the chance that on hard it is nothing really i started resistance on the hardest difficulty and it is not that bad at all.

Depends if i can get a butload of achievements or unlock something thru the singleplayer mode that i can use on multiplayer, i'll beat anything on hard, other then that, if i don't like the nature of the game, easy... If i feel like just getting thru the game, medium. so i can't vote
