If you vote for the third option, you suck on balls.

EDIT: I know, I know. I thought I was in the music section. But vote anyway.

They can, but they don't normally do that. In fact, I haven't seen a moved topic since Emuse was moved.

Dude, fuck all the "Metal Sub-Catagorization". That is just bullshit labeling. It comes down to "Does the metal Shred, or is it a bunch of i can scream and put on eye-liner puss-metal".

For Example....

Shredtastic: Lamb of God, Chimera, Black Label Soc., Slayer, Pantera,

Queer: Trivium, Job for a fagboy, Nickelback

thats my 2 cents

Nope, and trust me, I've had this argument 10,000 times before. Genres are useful. Even someone who has never heard metal before could acknowledge the huge differences between power metal, black metal and thrash metal.

Anyway, doom is my favourite followed by thrash. Doom is such a varied subgenre.

I know, but I could only fit 10 options. I definitely should have included power metal, but the rest are legitimate options as well.

To answer your question regarding crust: you know how crossover is thrash/punk? Crust is like black/death/doom metal merged into punk (but it's a very diverse genre). Some would argue that it's more a subgenre of punk than metal, but I disagree.

That poll fails. doesn't include doom, folk, power metal etc. but has crust, nu and... hair metal?
Other.

Just because nu-metal and hair metal are terrible doesn't mean their existances as genres are voided.

...to an extent, I'll add. Obviously it gets ridiculous when people make up genres like Swamp Metal, Fantasy Metal, Space Metal... I usually classify a sub-genre of metal as one of the following: heavy, power, thrash, death, melodic death, black, doom, progressive, folk, symphonic. If it's really necessary, I'll put two of them together (e.g., Pagan Reign - black/folk, Possessed - death/thrash).

Hair metal is metal. I only pointed it out due to its overall suckage and the fact crossdressing men doesn't strike us as "metal." Besides, it was just a commercial fad. What recent hair bands can you name?

Just for the record, though, I like Twisted Sister...

As far as nu-metal goes, it isn't metal. I can't remember where I found this but I'm going to paste it here :uhoh:

NU stands for New Urban, coined by a certain Mr. Davis of a certain band Korn. Nu Metal has NOTHING to do with Real Metal at all. It is a form of Alt. Rock, which takes simple ideas from other genres and cross breeds them. Be it Hip Hop, Rap, Hardcore, Industrial or straight up Pop. It's music. Nu Metal often features low technicality, simplistic song patterns, all purpose drumming, no solos, drop d tuning and one finger power chords. These things mean that the basic structures are not those of Metal and the very roots of the music are different.

Crust is pretty much just every form of extreme music of the '80s thrown into a blender, with special emphasis on gloomier dread-filled music like Discharge and Venom. It's very metallic, very punkish and very cool. Listen to Hellhammer (black metal fans should be doing this anyway), Amebix, Doom, Crude SS and GISM for the gist of it. Similar but different, close together yet so far apart...

To answer the thread's initial question: probably thrash metal.

The only metal that matters: heavy. Nothing can beat the original. Hai I don't ever think I've posted here before. By the way, I don't care about the subgenres, because the way I see it, there's true metal and then there's the rest that the youngins listen to that don't matter to classic-loving assholes such as myself.

I've been meaning to get some Amebix for a while.

Hair Metal for me, although this fell in my generation.

The writing was spretty over the top, but I love guitar and some of the best riffs came from Hair Metal. Unfortunately you have cookie cutter failers like Trixter and Britney Fox that gives this genre a bad name.
