View Full Version : Did you ever get used to switching from PC to Console?

I used to be a hardcore PC gamer. I STILL think that PC is the best for gaming since u can install your own mods, get the majority of the games for free (without having to install any chips), and it's easily upgradable.
I bought an XBOX 360 and I've been playing Halo 3 on live. I'm fucking terrible. I'm getting a little bit better than when I first started, but I feel like I can't be AS aware of my surroundings as i could with a mouse. My movements are clumbsy and slow compared to the precision with the mouse.
What are your thoughts?
Did you ever get used to it? How long did it take?
Don't get me wrong, I love the ease of use and straightfowardness of the gameplay, I'm just trying to get my thumbs in shape.

I agree, i'm a PC gamer and I played Halo 3 a few times at a friend's house and I have to say the controls are just plain bad. Your movements and aiming are really clumsy and it's hard to quickly aim and fire on an enemy when you need to. Because of that FPS's will always be superior on PCs just because of the mouse/keyboard advantage.
i think its just personal preferance. I mean i find console gaming tons easyer than pc

really? hmm. One benefit that is nice on XBOX is there's a little bit of an aim assist. At least i've noticed it on COD4.
yeah but once you get use to it and the sensitivity and everything it just clicks into place

I hope so. I've managed to make top rank a couple of rounds in the beginner arenas of Halo.
How do I play CTF? Or do I have to earn a higher rank...

You get used to them but I still feel like PC you can have much smoother motions while checking all your sides. I get annoyed with dying on consoles because I didn't turn around fast enough. I find the controls for COD4 superior to those of Halo 3 though. Maybe you might enjoy that more.

Can't you get a mouse and keyboard for the xbox? or are they not out yet?
I prefer the pc over console any day. You can have bigger games on the pc and I just find it overall alot more appealing.

Maybe if I had a kickass PC and kickass graphics card, id play pc games. but i prefer consoles. because the expensive ass graphics card then gets outdated, and then your pc can wig out. ya, im too lazy to bother with this shit pc.

just for shooters i can't really have a good feel on the game if it's with a controller compared to a mouse and keyboard.

I frequently go back and forth between my PC and PS3 with no problems. Of course, I have been playing video games for a long ass time (25 or so years).

Eventually, yes, you do get used to it. It should be noted that you will never get the same level of accuracy and precision on a console controller that you will get on a keyboard and mouse in an FPS, but eventually (in my case at least) you come to appreciate this as a unique and challenging handicap.
Also, if you're having difficulty turning around fast enough then turn your sensitivity up to 10. It's difficult to be accurate at first with how sensitive it is, but once you get used to it you'll really appreciate the difference.

I play pc a decent amount; mind you they're classic ones. Starcraft, Crusader, Halo, if I'm not playing those 3 I'm playing 360... I personally prefer a gamepad, just because they're so comfortable to me.

You get used to it somewhat, but it's more like playing on the same handicap everyone has. A mouse and keyboard will always be tons better than console.

Pc gaming is gay, console all the way, I didn't mean to rhyme that but hey, at least I mean everything I say.

Not really, I plugged my 360 control into my pc's usb port and played halo and got best in game. It's all a matter of opinion.

Even beyond the better control scheme, I just like PC games better. I'm sorry, I know it may sound smug or cliche, but console games are much more likely to be dumbed down, simplified shit. It's geared toward the masses, and it's painfully obvious. PC games are a better, deeper experience.

Care to explain how they're so dumbed down and how it's so painfully obvious? Sure, you can't mod; but, I've never cared for that.

Play DOOM 3 for console, than play DOOM 3 for PC.
Play Quake 1, 2, 3, or 4 for console, than play Quake 1, 2, 3, or 4 for PC.
Play Crimson Skies for console, than play Crimson Skies for PC.
Shall I go on?
Plus, modding is quite a valid point, regardless of how you feel about it. Modding extends the life of games, and can add depth to them. Even if you don't care about that stuff, many gamers out there do.

Uh huh. Sure. You simply cannot get the same precision with a controller as you can with a mouse.

Only the Sith deal in absolutes.
All in all, for most games I prefer to have them on PC, especially FPS and RTS, but like another poster said above, there can be a lot problems on PC and not every game is guranteed to play.

I found this item very interesting, but it's recently been given extremely poor reviews.

It allows you to use a keyboard and mouse for your XBOX 360. Some people say it's a pos and doesn't work. I'm not sure if I'd rather sit back on a comfy couch and play games on a big screen, or pretend my xbox and a PC... :err:

I don't game on a PC for the fact that I know nothing about upgrading or how to install/uninstall/fix problems with computers.
Also, I have a real crappy 4 year old computer (we're talking a bottom of the line computer here) that can barely run any games at all.
I play on my 360 because I don't need to upgrade it everytime I want to play a new game that just came out.

I played quake on pcs and consoles, I didn't notice any difference; after you get the sensitivity the way you want it on a gamepad you'll be ok.
I played crimson skies on both; it wasn't that interesting of a game to me on either. I've never been interested in Doom.
Only type of game unable to be really played is a strategy games like C&C etc.

I'm sorry but he's right.
You will never get the same precision as you do with a mouse. It's as simple as that. Otherwise everyone in the world would be using a god damn joystick to do their jobs. It's true that if you play 360 everyday for 24 hours for 1 year you'll get fucking hella good at it with a joystick and you'll definately rape a n00bie that has a mouse. But regardless... If the same guy played that amount with a mouse, he would be better.
Real gamers are PC gamers and they know that. It's okay that you disagree because I understand where you're coming from. Not everyone knows how to build/upgrade a computer. That's perfectly fine!! That's why they made the Xbox 360, PS3, etc. Consoles are great.. but with technology, PCs will be better.
Btw consoles are way better for games like Madden, any sporting games, racing games. Just not FPS.... Wow FPS's suck with a joystick lol I don't care what you say. RPGs are better with PC but are better on consoles than FPS's are.

Alright, here's an example. You will never, ever find a game like one from the Total War series on the console, and not just because the controls wouldn't work, but because the console crowd just wouldn't care for it. Why, you ask? Because they have steep learning curves with lots of attention to detail. You need to spend a lot of time and care to make the best of your experience, and traditionally, the console crowd doesn't care for that. Consoles are the pop music of the gaming world.
That's not to say that console games can never be entertaining, there are a couple games out there that I can enjoy (although usually I'll be wishing in the back of my mind that they would have changed a few things and put it on the PC), and there are some games that just work better on the console (racing, platformers, etc), even though gamepads pretty much take care of that.

Sure, there are games out there that people won't play just because of a learning curve; but, people like that play every system that can play a game. They just stick to simple shoot-em-up games.
