Everyone knows the primary reason the PS3 was released was to promote Blu-ray! If Blu-ray reigns as the superior format, they will probably make more money in movie sales then they ever would with games. If their primary focus was the games, I doubt they would fuck up this bad.

Why do you think Microsoft supports HD DVD? Simply to prolong the format war. They know it is not the superior format, but they want the format war to last long enough so there is a chance both of the formats become niche. Microsoft's ultimate plan is to be the leader of downloadable content, and become the superior "format". Hopefully this will not happen, because then we would have to probably deal with subpar quality movies, and we don't techinically own the movies, only "rent" them, thanks to DRM. I dunno. I'm torn. On one hand, I really enjoy my 360. I haven't had a problem with it so far. But there is an unacceptable failure rate, which means at any given moment, this thing could take a dump on me. Let's face it. They have a huge design flaw that has supposedly been taken care of. But you can never really be too sure.

I have friend that works at Gamestop and she was telling me that she for about every 3 Xbox360 consoles that she sold, about 1 in those 3 would be returned. That's a 33% failure rate. Despite all the good games and stuff that the 360 has, that is just a buzzkill. I remember when I was trying to go "next gen", I had alot of employees at game stores tell me to go with the 360. So I did.

But on the other hand, the PS3 has proven to be MUCH more reliable than the 360. Even though the games may not be on par with its competitor, reliability in a console goes a LONG way. Also, it looks like PS3 is getting some good titles this upcoming year. Socom: Confrontation may be the game that pushes me to get the PS3 (Socom for the PS2 was my favorite online console game EVER).

What should I do? Huck my 360 and get the PS3? Or just ride out with the 360?

Dude, don't get a system based on how reliable it is. If that were the case I'd buy a Super Nintendo because those are the most reliable. Buy a system that will entertain you. I chose the PS3 because in my opinion it is a better system and you get more bang for your buck. The games I play are: WarHawk, Resistance, The Godfather, and Assassins Creed. I have some other ones, but these are the ones that take up most of my game time. Also, the PS3's network is free to play on so you don't have to pay monthly like xbox.

Not really. Even people who bought new elite systems with the latest 65nm Falcon chip are having overheating problems.

That's the only thing keeping me from buying a 360. They updated the cpu to 65nm but not the graphics chip, and it's the gpu thatis causing the overheating. Once they actually update that to 65nm (probably mid next year), then I'll probably consider one.

The thing is, if they succeed with Blu-ray, they will have a complete monopoly over what format a HD movie is released in, just like DVD (Toshiba) has with standard def movies. That is way more important, since they have complete control over the HD movie market. With video games, they will always be in competition. That's why they are focusing on it less.

Looking at what is now called "this gen" of gaming consoles, I must say I am utterly unimpressed and dissapointed. I own all three consoles and really, none of them wowed me whatsoever so far.

I dont play my 360 or Wii, and I only use the PS3 to play PS2 games right now basically. Games being released in this day feel all too similar to games I have played in the past. Funny thing is, with how litle I play my 360 (in its well vented area) its RRoD'd on me after 7 months of owning it, and still has the random DREs after getting it back)

Sure, the tech has gone up, and things are visually impressive, but gameplay is nearly forgotten. Some game just completley miss the mark, and other dont make a big enough effort to be different.

Assassins Creed for example, I bought, played a few hours, and just put it down. It doesn't have a lasting appeal. This happened on a lot of new titles I bought over the last year, they just didnt really have a hook. Multiplayer is fun, sure, but even that gets boring.

I find myself only able to sit through series that I loved for the past 10 years. The last game I really beat after I bought is was Silent Hill Orgins. And the next game I am really looking foward to is Street Fighter 4 and I still have a feeling its going to be a let down.

Pointless to compare the consoles, when the games aren't doing their jobs.

- Which might not mean much if nobody's buying.

- It will probably have more good games in the future.
- So why would you buy one now?

- Live is a really good online service.
- That costs £40/$50 a year.

- Has a HD-DVD player.
- Games are on normal DVDs.

- Has a great graphics card.
- The CPU isn't that great though.

- Has high sales.
- And high failure rates.

- Has loads of good games.
- But it would be handy if you could hear the games over the noise of the Xbox... ;)

I believe you mean, Xbox Live is free, but you can buy a more premium version of it with more options. If you hear your Xbox over your TV, you need to unmute the TV.

Xbox Live costs money if you want to play games online. Which is what most people want to use Live for. Also, like I said the noise thing is sarcastic, I just had to say something about the 360 having better games. ;)
