So I'm looking to build a new pc from scratch and I was wondering what people recommended for parts. I have some idea of what I will probably need like a dual core processor, 8800 GTS card, etc. but I would like people to post what they think will be the best bang for your buck pc

Most likely core 2 duo, or core 2 quad. Although I have heard somewhere that amd is coming out with a new cpu line that will blow core 2 duo out of the water. I don't know much about that, so someone else fill me in. 8800 GTS is a good card and will serve you well. Anything from the 8 series is going to be good for future gaming. About 2 gigs of ram should be sufficient. I got for about $100 and it's worked well. You can buy it from newegg, which has the best deals, or you can just dl the ram.

I recommend the 8800GT not GTS unless its the new GTS version.

nVidia and Intel are the best now, AMD and its new baby ATi have fallen very behind.

pretty much a core/quad, 8series gpu and 2+ gig of ram and your set

Go, windows XP... (vista is buggy)
ATX Tower Case (make sure has many fans)
anywhere from 2.3 + GHz Dual Core Processors (preferably intel)
2 GB Ram floats my boats just fine
20+ in. monitor..
W.e CD/DVD drive you want... doesn't matter really.
Nvidia Geforce 8800 GT (better then GTS, if tha case doesn't have enough fans, buy an attachable 1 for 15-25$, its a must have)
Not so sure on the motherboard...
Look at newegg for some gaming mice and keyboards...

www.xoxide.com for a gaming mouse pad...
(they have 11x14 in. mouspads that run about 20-25$, and anything else you would want!)

I'd recommend the x64 version of Vista (only if you want to play Crysis or have a future with dx10 games)
Antec 900 case like that guy said is probably the best out for air cooling
2GB on XP or 4GB on Vista (only if x64)
I'd recommend the new 8800 GTS because I'm getting one in a few days, however, if you want to wait a few months for the 9 series I'd do that instead -- or if you can GET an 8800 GT get one of those but the 8800 GTS is more overclockable (the g92 version)
I prefer AMD (I'd get a 6400+ for a dual core cpu) but if you want a quad right now go for intel (Q6600)
MX518 mouse
G11 or G15 keyboard

Intel Core 2 Duo E6850 Conroe 3.0GHz (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115028)
EVGA 512 GeForce 8800GT (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130303)
2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820220144)
ATX Full Tower Computer Case (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811233004)
Acer 20" 5ms DVI Widescreen LCD Monitor (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824009108)
Keyboard/mouse (http://www.xoxide.com/thxasekeandm2.html) (this could vary)
dvd (http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductReview.aspx?Item=N82E16827106045)

Any input on those choices is welcome.

I am still unsure of what motherboard/power supply to get though. Because I don't want to end up with incompatible ones.

get a E6750, the E6850 is a waste of money, and you might as well get 4gb of ram

Building a PC right now would leave you wondering, " Why the fuck didn't I wait like 6 more months?! "

Too damn true, built mine afew years ago, got the BFG Geforce 7800GT OC when it was top of market (most expensive thing I've ever bought)
It was about $600 at the time, I think the next time I went to future shop after I built it; the card had dropped to like $300, so yeah I was alittle pissed.

Currently:

OS: Windows XP 64-bit (piece of fuckin shit, horrible recomendation, I cannot emphasize the bs I've had with this OS)
Mobo: Asus A8n5x
CPU: Amd 3500+ x64
RAM: 2.0Gig
VCard: BFG Gefore 7800gt oc (Looking into a 8800Gt)
HDD: 2 Sata 160s (320gig)

But yeah shes goin on 2-3 years now time for some upgrades.

I'd suggest the 8800 GTS 512.

I just ordered one an hour ago by eVGA. Ships (supposedly) with Crysis (although I already have it) and it's got a dual slot cooler with a $20 rebate.

The dual slot cooler will allow me to overclock it to around 720-- that's my target.

I'm selling my 8800 GTS 320 to a friend for $200 (I purchased it for $260 after rebate) and I am taking back my iPod I got from work for free as a gift which will pay the difference ($150).

Merry Christmas to me ;)
