finished it last night, but the forums were down so im posting about it today. it took one sitting and a couple of hours..
PORTAL IS AMAZING
the story, gameplay and everything is just perfect
SPOILER:
at each level, there was just enough information to know what to do next, or to know how to get through the puzzle. the fun of the game was solving and beating the game by myself without any guides. my brain was completely fried after finishing the game
the story is so addicting, and you just want to know where you are and whats going on in the lab.. the subtle changes in GlaDOS's mood, slowly leading to her insanity and her obsession with "cake". her attitude and personality is just perfect.. her comments are funny, but at the same time give you that eerie feeling that something isnt right and you just want to keep playing to get the hell out of there, or to find out the ending
and the gameplay.. you just have to experience it for yourself. it is seriously mindblowing
i can honestly say that it is the best game i have ever played

The only bad thing about the game is that it's too short.
There were so many times that I got to a point thinking "what the hell, there's no way to even get past this one" only to figure out a few minutes later what to do.
I shouldv'e thought with portals.

lol man so many freaky spots when you get into those little hiding places and theres graffiti and stuff all over the walls saying "the cake is a lie" when before GlaDOS was saying your reward was cake.. freaking freaky
that place is deserted and cold

The one with all the pictures of the cube's was my favorite, right there you just knew "someone has gone insane in here"
The battle with GLAdos was a total blast, and the song at the the end was just perfect in it's oddness.
PS, as you might be able to tell, i have a "thing" for insane computers.

That game was simply fucking amazing. I wish they would make more levels for it. If you really want a challenge go and beat all the advanced maps, holy shit.

It would be neat if you could download new levels.

You can. Just search for portal bonus levels or google it or something. I got a couple.

I love this game, but the obsession over it is sort of ultra sad.

I've heard a lot of things about it and it looks like a great game. I'll give it a go after I finish my Planescape: Torment game.

They're user made, so they aren't perfect...but they're still pretty fun. Click the downloads link at the top of the page. Have to sign up to download any though.

I finished the game in about three sitting prolly 3.5 hours total....i liked how the "last level" was almost as long as the whole game itself. Then i started to try and get all the achievements and finish the advanced tests. I've completed half of the advanced and prolly half of the achievements...then i started playing hl2:ep2....definitely need to go back and finish the whole game......
there should definitely be a more stable way to dl additional content though.

That is such bollocks. When I heard about that part it was as if that Cube was special and you'd been through alot with it. However you spent like a 3 minute level using it to jump to higher ledges. The game doesn't bond you with it through any means, its just another cube you manipulate to get you through the level.
The whole 'you get attached too it' is complete shit. When the computer asked me to burn it, I didn't think twice. Quit falling into fads, its ok to have differing opinions and just like me and probably everyone else who played the game after been told 'the companion cube is the greatest and it hurts leave it' bullshit couldn't give a shit about that different coloured tool within the game.

I played this before I even heard about it and I expressed the same emotion as the "fad" is now. It's called sarcastic humor you twit. Usually you are pretty spot on but you completely missed the point with that part.cue irony card

It's more of a sarcasm thing really.
Whilst you're carrying that thing around for a few minutes and you hear GlaDoS saying that you have to incinerate it to YOU and ME it's no big deal, but it's there to illustrate that by this point in the test some subjects have become so mentally and emotionally attached that they're dependent on the cube as their only "friend".

damn your right the last level was freaking long.. that made me want to get the hell out even more because your escaping through the "secret" underground way.. or well its not a lab setting, its more of the behind the scenes setting with the pumps and electrical outlets
oh yeah.. companion cube with the little heart on it.. i burned it right away, since i already spent like half an hour on that level i just wanted to get into the damn elevator

Yeah I followed the 'sarcastic' fad however the morons that are infesting the gaming scene didn't and now its evolved into an actual emotion about it. Leaving people actually believing they 'felt' something for the cube.
