No disrespect to MLK, he did alot to change things and somethings did change because of him, in some aspect. But you know, other people before him and after him did great things too, why is people making it out to be that MLK is the only one who actually did something, why make a holiday for him, and not JFK, or um Moses?
I cant think of all of the great people who did something, but the bottom line, everyone does something you know, i don't view MLK no different then the next man. So why doesn't everyone see it that way?
I don't celebrate holidays and neither do i honor any man expect for The Messiah, so i could care less, i was just saying WTF, MLK aint the only dude or person in general who did something you know.
Peace

Because people said, "Hey! Why not?" They did that, asked people if they wanted to go along with it and presto. If people want something for Harriet Tubman or Johnny Appleseed, then go ahead.

"At the White House Rose Garden on November 2, 1983, Reagan signed a bill creating a federal holiday to honor King. It was observed for the first time on January 20, 1986.
In May 1990, the holiday was expanded further when President George H. W. Bush signed an extension making the week long celebration into a month-long."
Both republicans! Who the fuck would have thought!

Holiday honoring JFK? Wow. That would piss me off.
MLK on the other hand deserves a holiday. The man has done more for the name of freedom than almost any other American. I also believe he would be ashamed of some of the things that are going on today.

I never said they should have a holiday for JFK, i could care less about none of that sh**, because i dont celebrate holidays. I was just pointing out that why is everyone only seem to be pointing out MLK, like he was the only one who did something good.
There are other people before him who did even greater things, but nobody really talks about them.
For example, if i say " Noah ", because would be wondering who the hell i was talking about. It seems to me, that people only focus thier attention on certain people, instead of everyone.

Let's see...MLK paved the way for a huge chunk of ignored US citizens to finally be able to vote and be represented in a government and society that had for its entire existence subjugated them as second-rate and disadvantaging them. He gave all of these people opportunities their ancestors here had never enjoyed. And he did it all without trying to be confrontational. He's the western world's Ghandi thus far in our short history.
Not everyone in the world thinks Moses is anything special. Some people are not Abrahamic, some are even atheist. to those people, Moses doesn't matter much.
Noah's an even more minor character in just a couple religions than Moses is. Noah is really only popular with the kids because of the animals.
JFK was an average president who is quite honestly remembered more for being shot than he is for anything he did as President. Lincoln is considered by many history buffs to be the president that finally truly unified the states into one nation through his leadership during and after the Civil War. Both men and all other presidents are covered by President's Day.
Who else should we have a holiday for besides a man who forced a great step in maturity for our nation while maintaining a message of nonviolence and peace during a very violent and turbulent time and made the ultimate sacrifice for his cause?
No one you've mentioned has done anything superior to MLK within our society that everyone actually believes in. People only focus on certain people instead of all people because we only give a damn about incredible feats of people we believe existed. Just because someone is president and gets shot doesn't make them a man of greatness. Just because a religious figure is important to you doesn't mean he matters to people that don't share your religious beliefs. MLK is one person that the vast majority of our society agrees did something magnificent.
Having a federal holiday for Moses or Noah would be catastrophic in a society where stores can't even wish customers "Merry Christmas."
Now that I really think about it, there aren't very many people in history whose existence isn't disputed for religious purposes that stack up to MLK. Talk about impact on society, no single man has had a greater one.

After a stressful day at work, I began drinking. Heavily. At this point, I'm in a stupor, so don't mis-quote me. As a matter of fact, don't quote me at all...
Mrs. Clinton, the one without the semen on her dress, recently said that a white man (Eisenhower) is the one to be acknowledged for his fight against the oppression of the black man.
In fact, it's the government that lagged behind MLK's heroism. King was a true American, who fought against injustice and should forever be remembered for his role in contributing to President Lincoln's (a REPUBLICAN) ideals.

Hey look princess, I'm not trying to come off like an ass or anything, but really need to open your eyes a bit and see the broad spectrum. I've been a lurker in C/E solely due to people like you. But lately, you ceased to amaze me and realized it was people like you that brought the autistic redneck monkey into office the second time. You should really get your mind out of heatherland and stop evolving around fox news. That should help clear your mind up a bit.
Good day.

Lately I cease to amaze you? You must be a newcomer to C/E, then. Stop by more often and I will guarantee to offend.
Otherwise, like with other recently hijacked threads, I will look, but not respond, to ridiculous claims. Don't be offended and feel free to bang away, hysterically, on your keyboard. Think of it as soothing therapy. Ahhhhh...

MLK was killed a long time ago. Current events shows Hillary flanking a black issue, in order for her to appear amicable toward the black community, in order to counter Obama's surge. She is the fall-gal, who will pander to her audience, even to an all black church, by speaking in Afro-American language. A hack.
But, on another subject, why doesn't the black community also revere Abraham Lincoln, as a model of their freedom? Why does Al Sharpton and the most Reverend Jesse Jackson consistently preach that America is promoting racism? Why can't they organize a speech against rap music, that influences hatred of white people, cops, women, and the promotion of smoking crack?
WTF?

You're a troll, with nothing to contribute, other than blatant accusations that I'm considering ALL black people in agreement with Al and Jesse. You've unsuccessfully flanked my argument.
Although I have yet to add anyone to my "ignore' list, you're inane posts have definitely caused me to pause and consider. A first, if that's any reconciliation.

How about you stop the ad hominem attacks on him? All he did was state a couple facts, one where Hillary said Dwight was a good guy, and one where he pointed out that Lincoln did as much for this nation as MLK. He meant nothing by either statement.
And then you jumped up all on his nuts with a bunch of attacks and jabs that amount to nothing more than confrontational stereotypes of conservatives.
Chill the fuck out. How do you know for a fact that it's your anti-conservative (different from liberal) views that aren't twisted? Why is he automatically wrong and ignorant and a horrible person simply for disagreeing with you?

Dude, do you have a brain?
Why are you using Moses and Noah as figures for Holidays? No one in their right mind would make a Moses day or Noah day, not today anyways. They're biblical figures, and they're hardly tie in with change or anything dramatic like what MLK did. How do we know they even existed? Might as well have a Allah day (there probably is, lol), but you know what I mean. We have holidays that relate to religion, but only because the past created them.
Not only are you being close minded with the whole "Noah or Moses" thing, but you're not even including the 'other people'. Give us examples, and we'll probably tell you why their aren't holidays for them.

Lol. I'm serious though. In his "I have a dream..." speech he talks about constructing the economy to give back to the people, black people specifically. I like MLK's charisma and how he brought inspiration to so many, but I am glad he didn't hold office.

Now black history month is something I have a problem with, like a whole fucking month! Ain't enough black history to cover a month, most of it is bios of entertainers or trivia, not history. In my city we have more Italians and Chinese than black people yet the school board promotes BHM. At least Italians & Chinese have enough history to cover a month.
