how can i do this? every time i set a gif as my avatar it is still in it's 1st frame

am i doing something wrong or do you have to be premium or what?

If the gif doesn't fit the size specs it wont let you use it. I think you have to link it from a website but i'm not sure.

Correct. You don't need to link it from a imagehost. You need to resize the gif.
