Does anyone recommend a good site to learn the rules of the game? I play in a defensive back line as a corner backer. I haven't learned all of the rules yet. My coach rarely sends me into the field because I lack knowledge about the rules. My team lost many games. So far we lost to Lancaster Bombers, Sheffield Sabres, Hallem and Celtic Leeds.

You guys might need a new coach, if that's the reason he isn't letting you play. You don't need to know a shitload of rules to play defense. And considering you guys have given up nearly 50 points per game, I don't think it would hurt if the coach let you play a little more.
Also, simply knowing the rules isn't going to improve the play, you guys need to improve on your defensive schemes/strategies. Here are a few pages on defensive strategy and shemes, which will give you a better understanding of how to disrupt and stop offenses...

I'll just add that I re-read the title of this thread for the first time and thought to myself, "Hell yeah, American Football does rule!"

No. That won't help. I'll play until I graduate from university. Even if it means never winning a single game.

Other reason that coach won't let me play is because I'm too small and should spend more time in the gym working out. Chances are, the wide receivers are gonna be bigger than me. Plus my techniques isn't perfected yet. I still need to work on my tackling.
My team loses games because we make stupid mistakes and losing yards. Our positioning isn't very good and strategy's poor. Its my team's fault. Not my coach. We can't do much training because of coach's geographical locations so training is only done on Fridays and Sundays.
I must keep improving on whats wrong.

I gotta ask you, how is the sport perceived over there? I know that there are a few professional type leagues and that the game is played on different levels. But the only time I really hear English people talking about American Football is in the stupid football/soccer threads on this forum so they are always talking shit about the game and saying how bad it sucks.
You obviously like the game, is it popular at all over there? Or is it kinda like soccer is here, smaller but still passionate fanbase?

Nope soccer is bigger over there than AF is over here. The only time i ever hear people talk about it is when the superbowls on.

Yeah what he said. I think the university's here play it quite abit but people dont really give it much thought otherwise. If the subject of AF is ever raised its usally met with something like "oh yeah they wear all that padding" or "why does it always stop and start". Well thats what i've experenced when the topic is mentioned.
But another reason would be if anyone over here plays sport, this is team games so golf or tennis, stuff like that is excluded, for a team its nearly always either Football, Rugby or to a lesser extent Cricket. no one gives AF a thought. Abit like how in america its either AF, baseball, basketball or Ice hockey no one really bothers with football unless they are brought up with it or are extremely talented and arent good enougth to play one of the 4 other most popular sports
The last part might not make sense but thats how i see it anyway

Well yeah, obviously. I definitely wasn't asking or implying that it was bigger than soccer. I just kinda see it like soccer is treated here. You ask the wrong person about soccer in the U.S., and they'll say it's gay and nobody plays it or cares about it. But at the same time, youth soccer and college soccer are extremely popular and we have 3 professional leagues. So, depending on who you ask, dictates how truthful of an answer you got, I was wondering if AF was the same over there.

Cool, that's kinda what I thought. It's played, by a fair amount of people, but it's viewed as recreation for the most part.
Would you say it's more popular than it was, say, 10 years ago? Or is it pretty much on the same level as it's always been there?

I've spent alot of time in England when i dated a girl from there and i can tell you that their football is like American football here times 1000, but it's different. It's more of passion there while the football here is more marketing and entertainment, you know how it is.
Soccer here is alot bigger than American football there, but i did find one shop that was selling a little NFL gear.

Oh shit, my mistake, I read your post wrong. I thought you said "Soccer is bigger 'here' than AF is here." I was like, no shit. But turns out I'm the moron.

i think theres an amatuer league that runs in the summer so people can still play football and rugby. That says it all really. There is some intrest but in the same way that americans already have 4 popular sports do they really need/want football. We have 3 popular sports would we really need/want AF

Actually, my reasons for playing american football is me playing too much Bully made by Rockstar North. I racked up over 70 hours worth of play. Beating up jocks got me interested in joining the sport. And I think the sport will teach me how to become a man, not a boy.
The sport is limited to universities. Each university has its own football team. For example Sheffield Hallem Warriors, Celtic Leeds and Birmingham Lions.
I'm not a big fan of English football, but its popular! Everybody talks about it but not me. I haven't played it since I graduated from secondary school in 2002. To be honest, AF is loads better than soccer and rugby in my opinion. One thing I hate about AF is not every player get sent into the field. I have to seek approval from my coach if I can get in and deal some damage.

I guess it's what you're around more you tend to get sick of if you're not too passionate about it. I feel the same towards AF over here as you do to soccer over there. I can list reasons but i won't get into that.

I think this thread basically proves that sports are so subjective and there really is no sport that is better than another really. They appeal to all kinds of people for different reasons. I love baseball, american football, soccer and hockey. But I can't stand Basketball, I truly hate it on any level. I don't think is sucks because I hate it, it just doesn't appeal to me at all.

Exactly. I think everyone has a sport they truly hate, but it doesn't mean it sucks.

Agreed. 1 Thing is i don't think any sport can replicate the feeling you get when the ball hits the back of the net. I just think it's different to every other sport.

From my experience, scoring a goal in any sport, that being football(soccer), hockey or lacrosse feels so much better than scoring a touchdown, hitting a 3 pointer in basketball ect..Hitting a home run in baseball feels pretty good, though.

football is a way of life. cant compare peewee leagues, jr high, highschool and college to the marketing and capitalism of professional. my town i came from if u didnt play football somethin was wrong with u.
anyways it seriously sounds like ure coach needs to rethink his approach. ive been a 3 sport coach for almost 8 yrs now and i gauran-damn-tee a teams success starts and ends with coaching and leadership. athletic talent helps tremendously but football is about preparation and play calling as well as ability of the individual. also off-season training is key.
dont play only 3 or 4 months out of the year. if its your only sport then train 10 out of the 12 months. if its just foot speed and lifting then so be it. however if ure a back size shouldnt be ure concern. form tackling and speed are more essential.
im 265lbs and play rugby and a dude on our team is 165 soaking wet but if he puts a hit on me at the very best i come to a complete stop. i figure the smaller u are the more insane u gotta be. just show up to practice and rail every motherfucker in ure way. if u get knocked down get ure ass back up and get back in the play. absolutely worst thing u can do is nothing. when doubt just lay someone out. now granted ull probably get some penaltys for hittin random dudes but people remember who hits em hard and if u hit em hard enough theyll shy away from ya.

Never lived, but have been all around the South and know all about it. I'm telling you now that England and soccer is just a whole different level and the fans mean business. Your club and firm can mean more than your family.
This is normal on matchday. Fans of other clubs can't be around each other and are blocked off by security in the stadium.

Yea, scoring a touchdown isnt that special, unless its a great run. And hitting a 3 in basketball doesnt even matter, theres too much scoring involved for 1 shot to matter. Like in soccer theres usually 4-5 scores in a game, in basketball theres over 40.
Like in soccer theres usually 4-5 scores in a game,
Erm... maybe down the park.
