View Full Version : The Patriots Lose!!!

This will, without a doubt, go down as the greatest superbowl of all time. Why? The greatest team in history trying for a perfect season against America's new favorite team. One of the most hated teams in all of sports. A score of 17-14 in favor of New York, who had to rally with only 2:30 left on the clock. A score which I accurately predicted before the start of the game.
When all is said and done, justice was served. Fuck the Patriots. Congratulations to the Giants. You are my heros.

If you had any brain in your head the title would have been "The Giants Win" The Patriots Lose implies that they had the game and lost it instead of the giants being a better team on this day....

Is that so? Did the Giants not have the lead, and give it up to the Patriots? Likewise, did the Patriots not have the lead, and give it back to the giants? So if that's your logic, the giants had the game, lost it, the Pats had the game, then lost it. They just happened to lose it after the giants.

your a complete fuckwit
the title suggests that the pats had a defining play that lost them the game that normally wouldn't happen like some type of fluke trick play.
Discussion a couple years back about weather the Heat won the championship or the Mavericks lost it was held them.
the same applies it was a GREAT game played by both sides, no team lost the game by a fluke play or just terrible playing all throughout, it was won by the giants the giants TOOK the game from the pats, the pats did not hand the game over in a basket. The giants WON the game.

No, the Giants were the better team tonight and they won fair and square. 23 qb pressures? 5 sacks? The defense creamed Brady and the O and did I mention the Patriots had only 274 net yards?
Not to mention Eli's 83 yard game winning drive.
No conspiracy.

He downplayed that ankle injury too much.... I'm not making excuses because the Giants deserved to win, they played better tonight and have played better during the last 2 months of the year, but you obviously could tell Brady could not plant his foot to make a decent throw. He was short on a few passes because he couldn't plant right and it made a couple of his other throws go off..... I think if he was healthy and they would've attempted a FG on 4th and 13 we'd be talking about a perfect season. I would make an excuse that the patriots got raped on a few calls.... that one catch by toomer on the left sideline(I think it was toomer) ....he obviously basically punched hobbs in the face with the ball in the air and on that long pass to the TE you can obviously see Jacobs horse collar and take down one of the LB's from behind who was blitzing. All in all the Giants defense played light's out and that was what won you the game.
The Patriots will beat the Cowboys in next years game so I'll have that to look forward too..... oh and the #7 pick in the draft and A TON OF CAP ROOM for free agency

Not to rain on any Giants fans parade... but did anyone notice that the backfield ref started waving his hands to stop the play but then changed his mind when Manning broke free on the amazing pass to Tyree in the 4th quarter?
I hate the Patriots and all, but forward progress was more than stopped and the ref backed out of the right call.
By the way, the NFL and all news outlets are totally avoiding the one replay camera angle that clearly shows the ref starting to wave his arms to stop the play on a forward progress stopage. If you watch a replay of the game they show it one time during the game and never on the replays that I have seen today. The one thing you do see in the replays today is the backfield ref run directly into the QB pocket which NEVER happens unless there is a penalty, fight, turnover or stoppage.

Everything you said was true. But the Patriots have cheated so many times over the past 6 years that I don't care if the Giants won on a bullshit call like that. I have a feeling the referees felt the same way.

That would have been the worst call in sports history... the guy got a hold of Eli's shirt for one second... that's not stopping forward progress. So what if the ref thought for a sec it was gonna be a sack? So did the rest of the world.

Actually, that exact play gets called as a stopage by the ref's 9 out of 10 times during the regular season. It would have been an iffy call if they made it last night but it would technically be the right one.

Hey, the ref was in agreement with me. Go back and watch the original broadcast where they clearly show a replay of the ref WAVING his hands to stop the play. And even if you don't see that you can still see that same ref running in at the very end of every camera angle from that play. Why the hell was he running into the MIDDLE OF DIRECT PLAY? Did he want Eli's autograph? Exactly.
The ref made a call and changed his mind at the last possible split second. Period.
Your letting your bias against New England or favortism towards New York blind you on this one.

Like I said in the other thread, I dont understand why patiots would go for it on 4th and 13 when they were up 4 points. Just kick the fieldgoal.
Im now starting to get tired of mercury morris and his 17-0 team, not giving credit to the patiots when they go 18-0. His team is one of the greatest in history but still, give some credit when some team goes 18-0.

I agree as well. I saw that play a few times myself and it should have been called "in the grass" for a sack. Another bad call was that fumble recovery earlier in the game. It should have been Patriots ball.

So what if started running into the middle of the play? It looked like Manning was about to be sacked. With less than a min left in the game he needed to be there to spot the ball quickly if Manning did go down. It doesn't matter if he was thinking about making a call. Clearly he was not in agreement with you, as he decided it was not the right call to make.

18 and 0 don't mean shit when it takes 19 wins to get a perfect season with a championship in the NFL. That's the difference and Mercury is free to run his mouth until a team shuts it and go's undefeated.
What they did with 18 wins was phenomonal. What they did to not win in game number 19 was EPIC.
They deserve ALOT of criticism for not pulling out a win on this one. New England was a team of mostly established champions versus a team with no chance in hell.
The Patriots lost, big time. Epic loss. Mega grand supreme master loss.

Of course it was an epic failure that they lost the superbowl after going 18-0 but still give the team credit. 18-0 is a huge feat, plus all the nfl records they broke. Im not even a patiots fan I for one wanted them to lose, and the underdogs to win. In my opinion the patiots are still one of the best teams to play even if they did lose the superbowl.

With all due respect, all that greatness in the 18 win stretch makes the ONE loss that much bigger and LESSENS the signifigance of winning 18 in a row and breaking records left and right.
Example of how this pertains to another sport is Alex Rodriguez. He is without a doubt the best player in basbeball over the past 10 or so years. His post season performance SEVERELY hurts his total credibility to the point that the team he plays for didn't mind that he wanted to leave after having a career/MVP calibur season this year. If you can't win when it TRUELY matters that your past achievements will be somewhat tarnished.

Well apparently I'm not the only one who thinks so because there was a write up on msn about it. Here's a few examples of classlessness that I noticed.
1) Belichick left the field before the game was over. Regardless of the error on the clock which was quickly fixed. Any coach who runs off the field like that with just a half-assed hand shake to the other coach and two words is classless.
2) Tom Brady in an interview talking about Burress, who predicted a score of I think 20-17. When Brady heard Burress's prediction, he gave that arrogant laugh and said "17? That's it? Is Burress playing defense? I'd be happier if he predicted 45-42." Clearly Brady is full of himself.
3) If you payed attention to Harrison, you'd see that he has ignited more close call fights than just about any other player in the NFL.
4) They got caught cheating and provided no explanation. I don't care if every other team supposedly does it. Prove that to me and I'll let it slide, but the Pats got caught. Bottom line.
The Pats got exactly what they needed. A kick in the face to knock that smug look off Brady and Belichick's face. I mean, if you have an example of the Patriots engaging in a classy act, for the love of God please let me know because I havn't seen it yet.

he did a hand shake and a hug pat on the back thing... yup thats a pretty weak thing do to of a coach. The game was over, Belichick wasn't the only one to think so, thus everyone on the field...
He plays offense, hes the leader, he has to be confident in his team because whats the other option, admitting defeat before the game is played...?
3) If you payed attention to Harrison, you'd see that he has ignited more close call fights than just about any other player in the NFL.
It's the NFL its a physical game, they hit each other for a living, hes an intense player, if he was on your team you'd love him
4) They got caught cheating and provided no explanation. I don't care if every other team supposedly does it. Prove that to me and I'll let it slide, but the Pats got caught. Bottom line.

lol... the backfield judge is the one that usually call quarterback forward progress stoppage since he is usually the one closest to the quarterback.
Oh and there are about a thousand instances when play just like this and lesser were blown dead by the ref's. Like I said originally, it is an iffy call but it is a tecnically correct call by the rules. The ref's usually let a play like that go on in the playoffs, which is good in my opinion.

Not to rain on any Giants fans parade... but did anyone notice that the backfield ref started waving his hands to stop the play but then changed his mind when Manning broke free on the amazing pass to Tyree in the 4th quarter?
A whistle ends a play, not waving your arms.
I watched the replays today and listened to the audio. I didn't really see much of an arm wave and definitely didn't hear a whistle. It looked to me that he ran in to get a better look at the play. Manning was moving the entire time, the play shouldn't have been blown dead and it wasn't.

And during the game when 5 lineman were converging on Brady and Manning numerous times during the game blocking the view of the football that same ref came running RIGHT UP to the quarterback how many times....? Exactly.
...and about the ref "WAVING his hands to stop the play" which didn't happen?
It doesn't matter if you don't like or dislike either team, you are wrong about this. Clearly the referee did think for a second about whistling it dead, and decided it was not the right call.

Right that's MY EXACT POINT!! God you're thick headed.
I never said the play should of been blown dead all I was saying is that the Giants got LUCKY because the play COULD HAVE BEEN blown dead. People are sounding like plays like that have NEVER EVER been blown dead because they are Giants fans or just Patriot haters.
And once again, if the ref wasn't "thinking for a second" about blowing the play dead than why did he all of a sudden run into the direct line of play? Exactly.
That call could have gone either way on sunday. And that's a FACT. And that makes me RIGHT.

Your point was that the ref was waving his hands to stop the play, and then backed out of the right call. I said it would have been a terrible call, and then noticed that the ref was not waving his hands. Everything you said was based on something that didn't even happen. That makes you wrong.
I will agree with you that officials are capable of making huge mistakes on any given play.

Oh well, I guess the Pats will have to just start all over again, and play a season hopefully free of controversy and win the superbowl next year.

The guy in this video claims the Giants got extra time in their game winning drive. Watch it and tell me what you think.

I see where he is coming from, but his line of thinking isn't entirely right. If the clock had been running the whole time, the Giants wouldn't have been taking their sweet time running plays on the field. So, things may have not gone the way they did, but it certainly doesn't me the Giants still couldn't have won.

Yeah thats true. Is that really suppose to be a penalty? Touching the ref 15 yard penalty. Never heard that one.

Striking or purposely shoving a game official is a 15 yard penalty and automatic DQ. Obviously that's not what Coughlin did there.

I believe I made a post about the clock mysteriously stopping on the giants last drive..I didnt watch the video,it's not loading right for me. But I noticed the clock stopped when it shouldn't have, sped up,then magically had more time on it then it shouldve have. Is this what the video is?

Except I can go back in this thread and read what you actually said, which is this.

I hate the Patriots and all, but forward progress was more than stopped and the ref backed out of the right call.
So no, you dint say it could be blown dead, you said it SHOULD have been blown dead and that the ref made the wrong call, which is contradicted by the ref himself.
Mike Carey, the Super Bowl referee, told the Daily News on Wednesday that his "radar was definitely up" when Manning was clutched by two Patriots defenders with just over a minute left on Sunday night "because I knew a sack, or at least grasp and control, was imminent," he said.
But the sack never came. And when Patriots linemen Richard Seymour and Jarvis Green failed to stop Manning's forward momentum, Carey said "grasp and control" was never achieved either.
So stop with the backtracking and "Pwnd." LOLZ and grow the fuck up.

Pats had 30 seconds to work with and 3 full time outs. They have the best short pass attack. And should of used it. And could of got in field goal range with a few seconds to spare. They threw 3 bombs in that last 30 seconds probably could of got off 5 short passes. You never know Welker or someone could of broke a few tackles and bam touchdown. But Gostkowski could of made a 50-60 yard field goal in that dome. No wind or anything. Its not like them to just air out the ball and basically give up. Brady was trying to pull a Flutie.

Oh you can not blame Tom Brady for the lost. O Line fucked, there's what? 4 probowlers on that O line? Brady couldn't even breathe it was so crowed back there. The Giants Dline just whip their ass.
I gotta argue this one, Brady just isnt used to gettn pressure. You shouldnt hold that ball nelonger then 4 secs and he had enough time. ooh yeah and pats lost sweetness:boink:
