18-1. Helluva record don't you think? But do you really think that it is "history"? I don't think so. 18 straight has been done before. The Bears in '33-'34. 49ers in '89-'90. Broncos in '97-'98. (Stats from ProFootballHoF.com) It may have been said before but this season for the Pats means nothing without the Super Bowl win. This year won't be remembered as the "best season for the Pats." 18-1 is good, but not unheard of, 49ers (can't remember the year) and Bears in '85, and they won the fucking Super Bowl. This year won't be remembered for shit. Not trying to take credit away from the Pats, great team. They had massive talent, but just not a historical year for them.
One of the most exciting Super Bowls that I have been alive for. Came down to the wire. Awesome game, undoubtedly, awesome.
Permission to bash, granted.

I think it depends on what eventually happens with this spygate stuff. I think they'll already be remembered negatively, as the team that went 16-0 but lost the Superbowl. It will be much worse if we find out they cheated in past Superbowl wins.
Definitely the best Superbowl (probably the best football game) I have ever seen.

Only reason people are considering this one of the best super bowls ever is because of the hatred towards the Patriots, plain and simple.
I agree with you to an extent, I wouldnt say it doesnt mean shit, what they did in the regular season may never be done again, many of records were made, with that said, it is the regular season. Come playoff time the regular season means nothing and should not be remembered, and unless you have that ring to go with that season, they won't be looked at as the same team that were in the regular season.
Besides, the Pats should have lost to the Ravens, thus making them not have a perfect regular season.

I agree with you for the most part, but that bears team definatley didnt win 18 straight since they only played like 12 games back then (and they lost in the superbowl anyway) and the 97 broncos didnt win 18 straight in a season.
Going undefeated in the regular season in this era is impressive though, and will be remembered. Maybe with an asterisk though

They'll be remembered for cheating. And for going all the way and fucking it up.
To the GIANTS. LOL.

It will be remembered for the huge upset. Although the Giants made their last game close, the Giants pretty much dominated the Pats defensively except for a few drives. It will definitely be remembered as much as any Superbowl in the last decade for different reasons, but any Superbowl that stays that close and then the heavy underdog scores a huge play in the last 2 mins. is a hell of a good game worth remembering.

Really? The best you've ever seen? It was basically 3qts of lousy football, with a pretty good finish. Now if you wanna see a great game, watch the superbowl highlights of Superbowl XXV. That game was amazing.
Also, there have already been 18-1 teams that didn't win the superbowl. Pats biggiest bust since the colts of 1968

I agree that dislike for the Pats played a role, but the game was within 4 points the entire time. No matter who played, it was an amazing game. Also, the hype of a team trying for a perfect season helps. Alot of factors went into this game, but I do believe this will go down as the greatest superbowl ever. Atleast for the time being. Until we see either Pittsburgh vs. Dallas again, (who have already played 3 times against each other in the superbowl) or Indianapolis vs. New York (bro vs bro will be the most hyped superbowl ever)
And yes, the Pats lost to the Ravens. Unfortunately, and me being a Steeler fan who hates the Ravens, that was the one game I wanted them to win so bad it hurt. They made a rediculous mistake which literally cost them the game.

They were double digit underdogs and were playing a team that was 1 game away from a perfect season. They held their offense to 14 points and Brady had like a 52 QB rating at one point, don't know what he ended up with. And, to top it all off, they had a very late touchdown drive to win the game by a 3 points. It has everything it needed to be considered one of the best super bowls without the Patriot hateraid.
Plain and simple?
My ass.

I gotta agree with a few others. This was a great game and a great super bowl (thank god, they usually suck) but I think a few I've seen were as good. The one's that come to mind are Giants vs. Bills (as stated), Patriots vs. Rams (for similar reasons as this years), and Patriots vs. Panthers (partially for selfish reasons but I also think it was an amazing game).

That's exactly what made it a great game. How can you say it was 3qts of lousy football? Watching those defenses throughout those quarters was intense. Lousy games are the ones where one of the teams is winning by 20 points throughout the entire game and you just want to turn your TV off because you know how it's going to end. For this game, however, I was on the edge of my seat throughout the entire game. At any second, anything could have happened to turn the game completely around. If you want a shitload of points being scored, go watch basketball.

winning 18 straight was useless without winning the last game especially considering the patriots won 21 straight, a record winning streak, at one point.

sprak,
They have already been penalized for the spying in the first game this year. They have already forfieted their first round draft pick and if memory serves they were fined for it as well.
It was a great game

Yes, the bears '85 team didnt win 18 straight but they did win the superbowl. Only lost to the dolphins in week 13, ending with a record of 18-1

The Giants accomplished history this year, winning 11 road games in a row. No team in NFL history has accomplished that. They won all 4 playoffs games on the road, the Superbowl in Arizona was officially declared a home game for New England by the NFL.
Also, you could argue witnessing one of the biggest upsets in Superbowl history and one of the most exciting games in Superbowl history. I remember a lot of people who were not Pats or Giants fan arguing they wanted to see the Pats win, simply because they wanted to be able to say they witnessed the best season ever and subsequently the best team ever. A good portion of those actually changed their tune after watching the Cinderella story the Giants became during the playoffs. Constantly being picked against and than overcoming the odds, I noticed their were a lot of people actually picking the Giants, against the grain, to win the Superbowl. The Giants winning became special because of the way they got into the Superbowl.

QFT. We got another 8 good years with this team the way it is, being as young as they are. Lets do it again next year, GO BIG BLUE!

They were fined for doing it against the Jets. If we find out they did it in the Superbowl against the Rams or any other team, they will be punished more severely. (should be, at least)
