View Full Version : Shaq going to the Suns....For Marion and Banks

Yup, that's the trade going around the NBA and Miami. Shaq's reps have confirmed that Miami has been talking with the Suns about trading Shaq for Marion and Marcus Banks. Sorry but if the Suns make this trade, they're freakin crazy. Shaq can't do anything anymore especially in the playoffs. Put Shaq in the 4th quarter and Hack-a-Shaq comes back. Thoughts???

marion is among the top athletes in the league, he is a dirty grinder player that gets the steals and quick fast breaks.
if suns do this, they are fucking retarded. shaq won't bring shit to the table compared to that marion will bring. miami's fans must be grinning at the very thought of this.

Shaq better not play any better than he did at Miami.

Horrible, why would the Suns want a slow, washed up hack like Shaq instead of a star like Marion?

Marion's numbers this year have been the worst of his career, I guess the Suns see him as a fading liability. But that sure as fuck doesn't explain why they want Shaq to join the team.

Any hopes the Suns had at winning a championship is now thrown out the window. I foresee Steve Kerr losing his job before the start of next season.
Phoenix has just lost its best defender, rebounder, and possibly its most consistent player. And they gained a player who is WAYYY past his prime, and is only getting worse as time goes on. The Suns organization is going to feel really dumb in a few weeks when Shaq goes down with another injury. Miami basically robbed Phoenix by getting Marion.
The trade doesn'y even make sense logically. Phoenix wants to get better defensively, but yet, they get rid of their best defender.... Who is going to guard guys like Kobe during the playoffs? Phoenix wants to build for the future, but yet, they pick up a superstar who has become inept over the past few years. If they were smart, they would have pushed harder for Garnett during the offseason. The Suns should take a pagef out of the Lakers book, and actually get players that will help their team out.

Marion's numbers this year have been the worst of his career, I guess the Suns see him as a fading liability.
It's not the worst of his career but his points per game are his lowest since his rookie year. BUT the only reason for that is because he's taking the least amount of shots in his entire career this year... BUT he's also shooting a career high in FG% this year and his 3pt% is higher than it has been the past 3 years. His boards are at his career average of 10rebs/game, his steals are just a tad above his career average and so are his blocks. The only thing that has really declined is his pts/game which is 15.8pts but like I stated, he's only taking 12 shots per game.
And Marion is the Suns leading rebounder at 10 rebounds per game and he's only 6'7" not to mention he is the only Suns player who really plays defense.
Seriously, guys like Marion are far and few. A guy who's 6'7" but can play at SF, and PF that shoots 3's like a SG, boards like a center, blocks like a center, but steals like a PG.
On a side note, how is Shaq going to help them in the playoffs? He's always in foul trouble, can't run up and down the court and only blocks as much as Marion? Oh yea, Shaq probably can't play much in the 4th quarter of important games because of Hack-a-Shaq either. Suns made a huge mistake.

Assuming Shaq actually gets in shape puts in the effort to win a title, this is a good move for Phoenix. Marion was becoming a cancer in the locker room, it was well known before this season that he and Stoudemire couldn't coexist.
Phoenix's biggest weakness, which always kills them in the playoffs, is terrible post defense. Shaq can do that, and will also help Phoenix when they have to play a half court offense.

I think Phx will be better with Shaq. Now they got Amare to play the Power Forward and they have enough depth to make up for Shawn Marion's scoring.

What do you drink?
No they won't, he's too beat these days, what do the Suns do RUN.
He's done, should have retired. The All stars, Championships, etc. Shaq never stays in shape as it is. Before he could get away with that, not now. Is he gonna be an outlet pass guy? Are they going to wait for him and pick and roll more?
Let's see how long it is til he's sidelined like TJIZZLES said.
Is he really going to make the effort?
He fouls too much these days, cause he's sloooooow.
Most teams in the west don't wanna see him again , but they are not in fear of Shaq in 2008.
Marion wanted out and anyway he's gonna have life in hell going to a weak azz team like Miami.

Why would the Suns want to get rid of Marion in exchange for Shaq? Probably because for the entire span of Marions career, he has been with the Suns, and what do the Suns have to show for it? NOTHING.
Every team Shaq has been with, have made a Finals appearance, winning it 4 times.
Yeah, who got the better deal? Suns.

i am a pretty big suns fan and i was extremely skeptical at first, but if he can increase our paint/post defense and rebound i think it will make a difference (although maybe not THE difference)

not a fan of this trade, we got an old, slow, space consuming player, who gets hurt a lot. Hopefully playing with the suns will get him in better shape (kinda like it did with grant hill) and possibly make is last 2.5 years left in the NBA quality seasons.
Hopefully Tucker is ready to play some bigger minutes as well as DJ strawberry. These 2 players have bright futures ahead of them.

Exaclty, plus Shaq can help them defend against Timmy D, who has given them lots of trouble in the past.

If he :
1. Makes a real effort like in the Laker days.
2. Stays healthy. 05-06 just 59 games, 06-07 only 40 games.
3. Stops fouling too often/wrong times.
4. Does not become a liability in the 4th (free throws) aka hack-a-Shaq.
Then maybe it was a good deal....we'll see.

to be fair Duncan gives every team trouble. And the suns shouldn't have lost the series in 6 on that chicken shit fight/non fight caused by the cheap shot taken on Nash.
all suspensions should be given to players after the post season is over for fights, start them at the beginning of the next season. Fines should be doubled. Or at least thats better than tossing several players from a game and handing the other team a victory...

I'm a Suns fan and I think this is a great trade. The Suns are an elite team even without Marion. Add Shaq to the mix and you get a great passer, and inside presence which will open up Leandro, Nash, and Bell outside, and it allows Amare to go back to the roll of power forward. Shaq may not bring great numbers, but I'm willing to bet he makes everyone on the team a lot better (like Nash).

As a Suns fan, you can't say that the Suns are an elite team without Marion. Look at what just happened in the past two games. The lost a close game to the Hornets and barely won against Seattle...yea Seattle (won by like 4 points and Seattles only won 13 games the whole year). Marion is the teams leading rebounder and he rebounds more than Amare and Shaq and the Suns are one of the worst rebounding teams in the league (only 6 teams are worse than the Suns in rebounding) not to mention that besides Bell, Marion is the only player on the Suns who played defense and now he's gone.
What is Shaq going to do in the playoffs? Foul out? Get fouled (hack-a-Shaq) and miss free throws? When the game is on the line, Shaq is not going to be able to play because of his FT%.
