Make sure you patched the game, and update your video-card drivers.

Install this Vista hotfix here (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=a156e265-40ff-468e-bba2-3d1e1929c416&DisplayLang=en)
Get the latest XTreme-G Catalyst Vista drivers here (version 8.2) (http://www.tweakforce.com/modules.php?name=Downloads&d_op=viewdownload&cid=20)
(make sure you uninstall your previous video drivers before you install these)

So you're already using the XTreme-G Catalyst drivers and NOT the ATI Catalyst drivers AND you have that exact Vista patch installed? I find that hard to believe.

You need to reinstall the game.
If the patch altered the game functions in any way negatively, there's a problem with one of the files to begin with. Reinstall and you'll be fine.

You're video card doesn't have the right shader version. You need 3.0, you probably only have 2.0. Only way to fix it is to buy a new video card.

This guy is right. You need a vid card with 3.0 shader. I had the same problem and that's what it was. But you don't HAVE to buy a new vid card.
Go to the following website. People are making patches to fix this problem for people with 2.0 shaders.
