I have worked at Gamestop for 8 months now for peanuts, but I love my job. I'm around what I like to do and I get the sweet ass discount :bigwink:

I see a lot of hate on the internet about Gamestop employees and the store in general and I am asking why? I always try my best to get what you want but I also have to pitch the magazine and the reservations, both of which aren't bad deals if you catch them at the right time...

Why hate? Best Buy doesn't have customer service but they do have the product...Are they better?

Has anyone ever called and asked to pre-order battle toads for the wii? or Combat Amphibians for the ps3?

I hate Gamecrazy, that place is fucking a cheap place. I know people that got a used game that was supposed to work with a fucking chunk taken off the CD. They always give you shit for prices on returning games and then sell if for about 20 times more.

My business goes to Gamestop.

the only problem ive ever heard about gamestop in general was that some people had their preorders sold away to someone else on the first day of release.

We have had calls about Battletoads which I think is hilarious because I remember playing that on the genesis. I am totally against selling away preorders because we're required to hold them for 48 hours after release, but there are times where customers get bloodthirsty and preorders are sold off. Something that has to be understood is that preorders usually aren't picked up, especially big titles like Halo 3. We had 400 some preorders and still have a ton left over from people who haven't picked it up. We even have Rock Bands that are completely paid off that STILL haven't been picked up (Rock Band retails for $180 with tax for 360 or PS3). Our advice is to reserve a game that will sell out like SSBB. If you are going to buy it why not guarantee yourself a copy?

It's true that some trades are worth balls. But what do you expect from a 2001 sports game? $20.00? You get what you pay for, and anything with a year on it that isn't the current year, most likely won't trade in for much.

I understand that you have angry teens wanting to buy a sold out game but I had a friend that preordered GTA san andreas MONTHS before the release date and had his copy sold off on the day it was released. All he got was a $20 store discount or something like that

I just sold my NHL 2004 recently for $ 0.26

Well I bought Gears of War the day it came out at Best Buy and as a joke went to see how much Gamestop would give me for a brand new game that came out that day still wrapped in plastic and they were going to give me 30$ and then sell it for $60.....now that is some bullshit.

Basically I hate them because the one closest to my house has ugly ass bitches that work there that don't know shit about games. I went in to apply and they said that I knew too much about games and that they wanted someone who knew less about games so they could teach them what they wanted to know....now that is some bullshit. And you get raped on videogames you try to return.... I turned to selling my old games on craigslist and ebay because Gamestop is a rippoff

As I become older in my gaming years, I am realizing that there is no real advantage over buying games in shops like EB Games or Gamestop over just buying them at Best Buy except for the whole used game and console thing. And shops like that overcharge you anyways for used products, so why even bother?

Shops like Gamestop are only appealing because they create a "videogame" atmosphere. For me, I just wanna buy my game and GTFO of there.

Oh and for the record, specialty shops have the biggest, yet smartest scam around.... The trade-in system. I've learned the hard way that for the most part, you shouldn't trade in your games. As appealing as it may seem, don't do it. You could get more money by finding someone who wants to purchase straight up. You should only use that trade in as a last resort.

I'm not sure if you can still get away with this, but a couple of years ago I would buy a game, play through it, then exchange it for another. I would end up owning and returning around 10 or 15 games within a 2-3 weeks. When I was satisfied, I would return the final game for my cash back and wait a couple weeks for new games to come. I had to have played through at least 100 PS2/XBOX games without paying a dime. Up until around May 06 (When I got my new job), the only two games I actually bought and kept were Madden 06 and GTA San Andreas.

Note: This only worked on used games. New games can only be exchanged for the same game.

I have begun liking PLay and Trade, they gall Gamestop and adjust their prices to be lower whenever you buy anything. Even on new releases on the day they come out

I always try to buy my games at Gamestop or specialized game stores. I'd rather give relatively small businesses money than Wal-Mart or Target.

I only buy 2 or 3 games a year, but EVERY time they ask me if I want to join their BS, ask me for my name and number. That is why I hate them.

Certain transactions like trades require certain information. It's just how the company works. I can't control it, but I also can't continue your transaction without that information....

But its bullshit when they ask you while you are buying their stuff. I'll give them fake info 100% of the time. They should be sucking my nuts with a gracious smile if I am giving them business, not asking me for my information. Long gone are the mom and pop stores I suppose...:banghead:

Is Gamestop associated with the UK's Game store?

it was at one point.

Gamestop bought out a chain of stores in the UK and rebranded them all to Electronics Boutique.

then they bought out a failing chain of stores called GAME and rebranded all EB stores with GAME. GAME then severed all ties with US owned Gamestop.

GAME have also recently bought GameStation from Blockbusters.

but i do think Gamestop have opened stores again the the UK and Ireland.

Some Gamestops don't sell PC games, and thus have no records of those preorders.

The only reason why I hate gamestop is because of their crappy magazine that they try and shove down your throat every time you buy something. I was dumb enough once to say yes. The mag reviews section is filled with games that they claim are good, but when you look at EGM (a far less biased magazine) they are crap. I think that gamestop gives games high reviews so that you buy them; kinda shady if you ask me.
