View Full Version : Did any other NHL team pull off what Montreal has done yesterday?

Losing 0-5 halfway to the game and then winning 6-5.

As for Montreal, it's the first time in their history they've done this (and that team is 99 years old!)

Shymega

I doubt it. If that was the first time in their history, i'm sure no other team has done it considering the Habs been around for 100 years like you say.

The Montreal Canadiens have arguably more history than any other sports franchise in North America.

And i know 8 people on my block alone who care about the NHL:p

But i'd expect an idiot reply from a dumb football fan..The dumbest fanbase in all of sports.

NFL is like making history in a backyard..cause literally, that's where all the players come from..America only.

If international players were good enough they would be in the nfl. They most likely dont play football much in other countries, thus they cant compete with americans who train all their lives to play football.

But as for the topic, id be ashamed if i was the other team.

No, they play Rugby. This is why American football will never be a world sport, it's too similar to an already world sport.

Not enough people outside of the U.S play American football and probably never will, therefore nothing will ever be made of players.

But i wonder if the sport was worldwide. Would guys like Tom Brady and Peyton Manning be so dominant? I highly doubt it considering some of the best athletes in the world come outside the U.S. Look at B-ball, dominated by foreigners..Nash, Nowitzki, Duncan, Gasol, Ginobili. The NHL is 1/3rd Non north Americans and i'd say about 5 out of the top 10 best players in the league are from outside the U.S. Baseball is getting to that level..Guerrero, Ortiz, Santana ect..

That's a major flaw i see with the NFL. People are deceived by what is really being displayed.

If more people played american football worldwide i doubt many would be in the nfl.. theres no way it would ever be played as competitively as it is in america, because soccer is the main sport most places. Football is like a religion here in most places, even in highschool. And in basketball most foreigners can play in the nba just because of their height, there is obviously alot of exceptions like nash and ginobli but you dont see any lebrons or kobes coming from europe.

Baseball is not a religion in America? isn't it our past time?

Football isn't played anymore religiously than other sports here in New York, and really in the Northeast in general. Maybe in Texas, Florida and Alabama, but definitely not up here. I look at football as a Southern sport, mostly, always have.

But, you may be right, in football we'd probably see alot less players from around the world, even if it did become as popular as the other sports. Reason i say is because, football is not so much a skilled sport, it's more a power sport. However, that doesn't mean other players from around the world wouldn't dominate in the sport.

Baseball isnt nearly as serious as football.

And i dont know about new york, but pennsylvania and ohio highschools are as serious about football as they are in places like alabama and flordia. Pennsylvanias a top 5 football state, ohios top 10, yet they are both very small compared to places like texas and flordia. I cant talk about states i dont know much about but im pretty sure most states are similair.

I can guarantee you that there are at least twice as many registered baseball players in this country than football. Baseball has minor leagues, football only has college, than pros. I don't know if that's what you mean when you say serious, though.

I highly doubt it considering some of the best athletes in the world come outside the U.S.

I'm not saying other countries don't have incredible athletes, but come on, the US overall has the best athletes in the world and this isn't even a debate.

Point in case... Total Olympic(winter and summer) games medal count, from 1896 to 2006 is as follows-

1st place- America(Fuck Yea!) with 974 gold medals, and a total medal count of, are you ready for this?.... 2407.

2nd place- Soviet Union/Russia with 473 gold medals, and a total medal count of... 1204.

US has double(-1) the medals of the 2nd place country, all time. But just to put things into a bit better perspective-

3rd place- Italy with 216 gold medals, 595 total medals.

4th- France, 209 gold medals, 679 total medals.

The world can go on and on about how fat Americans are... But hands down, our athletes are the most superior athletes in the world. This isn't even debatable. To attempt to do so would just be an exercise in ignorance.

edit- just for fun....

2006 Winter Olympics- Germany wins 1st overall with 11 golds, 29 medals total. US follows in 2nd, 9 golds and 25 medals total.

2004 Summer Olympics, LOL! US in first with 36 gold medals, 102!! medals total. 2nd place was China with 32 golds, and 63 total.

2002 Winter Olympics- Norway takes 1st with 13 golds and only 25 medals overall. Germany in 2nd with 12 Gold medals, and 36 medals total. US was 3rd, 10 golds, 34 total.

2000 Summer Olympics- US wins 1st with 38 gold medals and 94 total. Russia takes 2nd with 32 golds, 88 total.

You can't compare on that scale. U.S has over 300 million people, while places like Germany, Italy, England, France ect..are well under 100 million. Europe total is about 700 million. No doubt U.S has great athletes, but we are far from the best nation in the world when taking into account population to best world sport athletes.

I told another poster here a week ago how the U.S sits 8th or 9th on the global athletics scale, which is alot more than just Olympics. You got soccer, tennis, cricket, cycling ect... I'll try to pull up the list.

I have a cousin who was that typical hard headed American type who thought the world revolved around Everything American, especially sports. His point of view was quickly changed after i took him to a Flyers Playoff game a few years back. Now a die hard Flyers fan, season ticket holder.;)

Next i'll take him around London to the West Ham pubs and get him going fucking mental, piss drunk before 12 noon, than take him to a match at the Boleyn Ground and make him sing his heart out with all the other fans and have the time of his life.

When i said serious i meant that 90% of highschools that are into football have practice/training year round for football, something you would never see in baseball, unless your very good. One of my best friends is very good at baseball, his brother pitched in the MLB, he will definatley play D1, but besides him i dont know any good athletes that put baseball first.

You have to understand that the world doesn't revolve around the U.S.A Mcfly. Does American football host Olympic games, World Junior Championships, World Championships, Summit Series'? No, because outside of the U.S, no one gives a shit about it, therefore it's a fringe sport whether you want to admit it or not. Next time read it twice before you go on a rant. I said outside the U.S

"i'd say about 5 out of the top 10 best players in the league are from outside the U.S."

If 5 of the top 10 players are from outside the U.S, wouldn't that logically mean that the other 5 are from INSIDE the U.S?

Might not have been your intention to say that but that's how it sounds.

The thing about american athletes, that i absolutely love(at least compared to the finnish ones), is that their self-belief and confidence is miles above the rest. Of course it fails them sometimes, and the rest of the world laughs, but all in all, its a great asset.

We have loads of american basketball players who come to the finnish league after the didnt make the NBA after college, and despite them not being Kobe's or Lebron's, most of them have this competitive and confident aura above them, that in most cases makes the rest of the team also play better.Of course there are some real assholes coming over as well, that just come here to fuck euro women and dont care about the team at all, but those guys are cut quite fast.

In Finland, the custom is to downplay your chances as much as possible, then fail badly after which you make excuses for why you sucked. If you happen to succeed in something, then you just say something like "yeah, i did alright, had a bit of luck, no reason to get pumped up or anything". Our individual athletes are masters at this, and watching the Olympics or Athletics(Track) World Champs is so painful, as there is no way you ever feel like you want to look up to these people representing Finland, as they just moan about what they had for breakfast, or that their shoes were bad or something.
