NY TIMES: McCain Denies Aides' Statements about Lobbyist (http://www.nytimes.com/2008/02/22/us/politics/22mccain.html?_r=1&sq=iseman%20mccain&st=nyt&adxnnl=1&oref=slogin&scp=1&adxnnlx=1203657438-ndjoLxDzOVZnwk4/MWaKAg)
The story came out yesterday, and it was the ONLY fucking thing they seem to be talking about on the mainstream news channels. There are two stories in one, and I can honestly say I don't entirely believe it, nor do I really care.
The first part of the story is about a potential affair. I don't think many people left of center really care. It really isn't anyones business, but if it pans out to be true, I think all of the people who wanted to lynch Clinton for Monica should feel the same way about McCain.
The second part of the story is the fact that it deals with lobbyists. Just that word sounds like the devil to many people mostly left of center. The controversy would be that McCain may have been swayed by Iseman, and the information on that is still coming in.
None of the above are illegal, and the first part is more of a private issue between McCain and his wife, but if some of this pans out to be true, I only wonder if the Conservatives will be drawn away from McCain.
NOW THIS IS WHAT I ACTUALLY LIKE ABOUT THIS STORY:
Like I said, I don't completely believe it, nor do I really care. The timing was HORRIBLE, or was it? I'm sure the Democratic Candidates are probably laughing to each other softly. Its a kind of "a taste of their own medicine" thing going on.
The Neo-Cons out there bitching about the timing of this article probably saying its a "witch hunt" or something similar should go cry me a fucking river! The last two Presidential elections and even some state elections the Republicans had KARL ROVE doing their dirty work. Some of the absolute worst, dirty, and sleazy tactics done in politics were think tank ideas of Mr. Rove. If Dick Cheney was Darth Vader, Karl Rove would be the Chancellor! Sorry for the Star Wars similarity!
So to the Neo-Cons that are up-in-arms about this story, shut the fuck up! Maybe the NY Times is trying to start a media frenzy to mimic the dark acts of Rove. After all, the NY Times says they don't publish a story without having the proof "nailed out" for them. They might just be holding back some details. The next couple days will paint a better picture!

If anything, it has made McCain look better. It really has a smear feel to it.

Aww Hell, men are men. All of them got some dirt in their past,
except wacky bastards that like decades of marriage and other goofy shit,
like babies and constitutions.
If the affair is true, no one that defended Clinton has any right to say anything negative about McCain about it.
I don't think he had an affair though. Have you seen his wife? I could understand why someone married to Hillary would wander...even if it was to a cow...but cheating on someone that looks like McCain's wife? The guy's over 70...look at her...he's not straying ANYwhere.
The second thing, even if it's true...most liberal politicians are puppets of lobbyists too, be they sometimes the same ones lobbying conservatives, or lobbyists for "liberal" causes, it all leads to the same pork-barrel underhanded bullshit that reveals most politicians to be whores bought by anyone willing to line their pockets, whether the whore is liberal or conservative. No one on capital hill, especially not Pelosi or Kennedy, have any room to criticize any conservative for lobbyist ties.

Yeah, it is probably a smear campaign, but not nearly as bad as some of the tricks Karl Rove thought up when he was an adviser to Bush and the GOP. I remember one that comes to mind against, I believe it was a Texas Congressman Candidate, but Rove came up with this idea to call voters in the area claiming to be part of a polling company, and asked the question, "How would you feel if it was found that [candidate] fathered an illegitimate black child?"
The Democrats in this nation don't really give a shit about sex scandals, unless they are really funny like Larry Craig. It is usually the right wingers ready to pounce on any sex related scandal of the opposing party.
Will the possible love affair appeal to Dems? Not really. It is the story regarding lobbyists that will be of greater interest.
Some of you need to understand that it is NOT that McCain has the most amount of lobbyists around him, more than any other candidate, but that he has been pushing that he "is the candidate that wouldn't let big business sway his actions." If the lobbyist part of the story along with other lobbyists he's been in bed with (I know, bad pun) come out, then maybe his reputation as being a "straight shooter" with the public will diminish.
He did nothing illegal, but his integrity is at stakes here.

I don't think it is. The fact that it was paired with the sex scandal and that is pretty much an obvious BS story given exhibit A: Mrs. McCain, will tarnish the validity or importance of the lobbyist scandal.
Besides, Pelosi ran her last campaign on a promise to end that shit, but she has some of the most outstanding lobbyist related stories about her to come out of the democratic party and continues to keep those ties.
If anything, it has made McCain look better. It really has a smear feel to it.
The claim of an affair certainly does, but there are legitimate questions about his relationship with special interests and lobbyists. He has stressed an anti-lobbyist stance for a while, so to see him buddy-buddy with them could hurt, but I'm not sure how much.

I've never said I completely believed in the story. In fact, I think the even idea they through in the sex scandal was foolish of them. It may have been a way to get this story more well heard. Given the fact that lobbyist stories come out day after day, this story would have been shrugged off by the American people.
Throwing in a "possible", yet far from proven sex scandal adds the shiny disco ball to the middle of the dark room.
The NY Times seems to like to throw gas on the fire. They spearheaded the Clinton Sex Scandal as well, and probably much more vigorously than this little article against McCain. No matter how they conduct the printing of their stories, this shit is selling their papers!

This is all just really odd to me...if they have concluse evidence of McCain's wrongdoings, why are stil speculating about it? If they had the full story, why didn't they run with it, putting all the cards on the table. Someone either ran with something too soon, before ducks were in their rows and they're now scrambling to cover their asses, or someone just plain lied. Either way, I'm not really iimpressed with the journalism here. And it's not because it's a republican candidate, it's just shitty journalism. Give me the story when you have all the facts, and then we'll see.

It's not that he even did anything wrong, it's just that he looks more vulnerable to special interest groups now.

Given that he cheated on his crippled wife who took care of his children during Viet Nam and then divorced her... I would not be surprised if he banged a hot lobbyist and cheated on his 2nd wife.

Yeah. While McCain was being held captive by the NVA, his wife was involved in a car wreck, that left her disabled. She patiently waited for him to come back.
Once he was back, he met his new wife at a function. He said that it was love at first sight. So, he divorced his damaged, aging wife, in favor for a newer model.

I did, I broke your anology. The three guys cannot be compared to Vader and so and so. They present themselves as an original comparison for corruption.

You guys HAVE to see this. It's a Freudian slip, but one of unintentional self-definition.

Reminds me of South Park when Cartman couldn't stop himself from saying his dark secrets out loud... Not that him being a liberal is any secret

McCain represents the worst of both parties. Pro-war from the GOP side, and pro-amnesty from the liberal side. To top that off, he's a complete moron when it comes to the economy.
