Rule by fear or rule by law (http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2008/02/04/ED5OUPQJ7.DTL)

This article appeared on page B - 7 of the San Francisco Chronicle

"The power of the Executive to cast a man into prison without formulating any charge known to the law, and particularly to deny him the judgment of his peers, is in the highest degree odious and is the foundation of all totalitarian government whether Nazi or Communist."

Winston Churchill, Nov. 21, 1943

"Since 9/11, and seemingly without the notice of most Americans, the federal government has assumed the authority to institute martial law, arrest a wide swath of dissidents (citizen and non-citizen alike), and detain people without legal or constitutional recourse in the event of "an emergency influx of immigrants in the U.S., or to support the rapid development of new programs."

Does the rest of the e-baums forum find this non-eventful? Disturbing? Is the ex-Congressman who wrote this article paranoid?

You can see these camps all over youtube... search it.

Many of them are along AMTRAK routes.

the government has caused all of these problems illegally. Why is there nothing being done about it? Nevermind that the current president has taken away more liberties than any in history, why is the system of checks and balances not being used? Why have the legislative and judicial branches stood by and said nothing while this took place, and even at times helped it along?

Things like there being a "special judiciary committee" to issue the warrants for wiretaps? Is it just me or does the government break the law, then when it gets caught, change the law so it never broke it to begin with? How do the US citizens get any justice if the people elected to uphold it all ban together to screw us constantly?

As long as people are able to watch tv and eat, they don't care.

Perhaps this is why I stopped watching TV. I hate complacency. Seriously though, I used to be one of those "99% of people are morons" spouters, but I think I was wrong. I think in general people are pretty smart and want good things. I just don't understand how these things happen and no one cares enough to do anything about any of it. Don't you think that maybe not one, but maybe 4 or 5 good examples made of bad politics would straighten the politicians out enough to say that they'd at least be beneficial to us while screwing us and acting out of greed? I mean, even a greedy arse can produce a symbiotic relationship from the office he holds as long as he puts the public first.
