This is the ultimate inport killer for America. For those of you from Europe, yo may recongize the Opel or Vauxhall versions. Now it is starting to sell in America as a Saturn, a GM brand that had a lousy reputation until recently, when they launched their version of the new Opel GT and Vectra. The potential for this car is limitless, they can create a redline version to compete with the Mazdaspeed 3 and Subaru WRX STI, and/or they can bring over the drop top to fight the BMW 3 series and Volkswagen Eos. As soon as I go to college this is the car i'm getting. I will soup it up in as many different ways that I can afford.

Import Killer for America?

Corvette?
Mustang?
GTO?

Then again it all depends on what Import you speak of. Any pickup truck can beat a stock civic, but I dont think you mean that.

Yeah that pretty much sucks, and nothing has changed around here regarding Saturn. Its reputation is still pretty lousy.

Have fun.

A Honda Civic? Thats like a Chevy Aveo.

This car has 138 mind-numbing horsepower. It sounds to me like it was meant to compete with the horse-drawn carriage and the Leaning Tower of Pisa.

That puts it 35 ponies ahead of the Aveo, and 300 ponies shy of being a real car.

Hi do you work at General Motors?

Is that supposed to kill a BMW?

Are you gonna install a turbo to SOUP it up yo?

Are they going to introduce the Redline version that has a much more powerful enginet? Top Gear did a bit on this car, in short: it understeered like a mother because of a heavy ass engine and too much power and it being fwd.

We have that car over here as "Vauxhall Astra".

Decent enough cars i guess, the VXR version is quite tasty 240bhp. Most reviews loved it but called the torque steer dangerous.

Infact we have a VXR version throughout the range from the 192bhp 'Corsa' to the 420bhp LS2 V8 'VXR8' ('HSV Clubsport R8' in Oz) even 2 different MPV's that'll hit 60 in 7 secs. :D

i was just thinking of the top gear reveiw and how JC didn't like the looks of the R8 - surely vauxhall could sell the largely similar (if luxury biased) yet more subtler looking HSV grange/calais V

Import killer? Aside from actually being an import that's just assembled in America, the thing weighs as much as the new Civic Si's but with 50 less HP. Even when you compare it to just a base model civic, it only has 2 less HP but it weighs a good 300lbs more. And if you can't beat a stock civic, it's nowhere near anything to brag about, much less drool over. Don't mean to sound like an ass but you're deluding yourself, my friend. Not that it looks to be a bad car, it's just not a performance car by any means. It's an econobox daily driver, nothing more. Unless they bring over the VXR version repitilian was talking about, THEN it might get a little bit of respect.

Ok I admit it, this car may not have the best perfomance, but I think it's pretty and can do a good job against Toyota, Honda, Mazda and Volkswagen. I've seen souped up versions of the European and Australian Astras and I would really want to see them on the streets here in America, especially the twin-top.

Just wondering if you guys got the Monaro vxr 500? They were the last of the line GTO's in the UK that came supercharged with 500bhp as standard. :)

nah there actually wasn't too much point - iirc the last of the GTO's here were LE's and you could get one with a HSV approved supercharger/blueprinted engine etc for less than what the VXR500 sold for.
while it would have been nice it was better suited for the UK where there isn't as much local aftermarket for the monaro's

reptilian_storm

Good point.

I'm surprised how scarce the Monaro and VXR8 are here. I think I've seen one of each on our roads. I'm pretty sure they offer the best bang for buck in this country as new unless you go super light and impractical. It seems most people here with cash for a quick cars opt for German cars followed by Lotus and TVR though I'm seeing less and less TVRs recently too. Maybe fuel prices are starting to get the better of us.

It's not a bad car for that market. It certainly isn't going to be competing with WRXs and Evos. But I think Saturn has definitely transformed itself in the last few years. Their SUVs are sharp, the Skye is very nice looking, and their sedans seem to have some originality to them as well. They're good cars for non-car people.

Chevy's are boring (except for the Vette' and Camaro) they have no liveliness to them at all, they are just boring. Saturn on the other hand takes pride in making cars that are exciting, that stand out, and are eco friendly. It has the potential to change the defeniton of an American car company. We will no longer take pride in our lust for gas-guzzling monsters, we will take pride in our respect for mother nature, and we will take pride in our respect for others.

Holy Al Gore Batman!

Nice speach, however inaccurate or uninformed it may be.

Again, Chevrolet and Saturn are both GM products...

Chevrolet was so far ahead of the "green movement" that their attempt to institute sales of electric cars fell on the deaf ears of the American public. Much of what was learned from Chevrolet's early electric cars was put into a new platform called the "Volt". While this is a concept, it will be put into production.

Hmm... Who else has a fully electric car? Surely not Saturn.

Your argument is, while emotional and spirited, uninformed...

The volt is not purely electric, and the Vue two-mode hybrid is exactly the same.

Kumacho
04-28-2008, 05:20 PM
The Volt and yes the Vue too are powered by electricity. There are engines on both that do not drive the drive train, instead they charge the batteries. In the case of the Volt, this provides a 640 mile range.

However, this still doesn't address the fact that both Saturn and Chevrolet are GM...

I like turdles

The mere fact that you think a redline version can compete with man cars such as a 3 series or a STi is proof enough that you are retarded.
