Hi, i just got a '96 4Door Pontiac Grand Am handed down to me, how ever the power windows on almost all the sides have troubles going down, they do really slow and sometimes stop... then if i wait for a little time i can get them to start going down again... this also happens when i want my windows to come up ... they start to go up slow down and stop ... i wait a little bit and they start going again,

I just want to know what is the problem? is it the motor or is it the wiring

Much appreciated.

The motors are probably toast, happens all the time. Also, when or if you install new motors, clean and grease the track and mechanisms well, that 12 year old grease in there isn't going to do anything but make the replacement motors burn out too.

yea you need new motors, but you might be able to get them to be better for a while.... take off your door panels and grease it up with some white spray grease

It seems odd that all four motors would go bad at the same time. The first thing to check is the weather stripping and regulators.

My guess will be that they are all in need of lubrication. It doesn't take much friction to cause the windows to stop and/or move slowly and on a 12 year old car this is the first place to check.

Remove your door panels, and lubricate the regulators with grease. Then with the windows down use a silicone based lubricant in the weather stripping channels.

If this doesn't work; you have (for very little cash) narrowed the problem down to the motors.

Again, since it is all 4 windows I am leaning towards regulators.
