I recon it was them Turks and their fault line again. If not, there's big old tsuniami slowing down in the Atlantic.
No data on it yet from the USGS and the live seismic server hasn't updated their data since the event, but it probably will within the next 10 min.
EDIT:
USGS is reporting it was a magnitude 4.7

I just got off Team Speak with a friend of mine that lives just south of London three hours before it hit.
So, what's an earthquake like? Does the ground move side-to-side or up and down or what?

This story is pretty amazing. You don't hear about earthquakes in the UK very often, that's kinda like an earthquake in the midwest I think.

Same here. I was sittin on my sofa watchin TV just about to go to bed, when i thought i felt my sofa vibrating, thought it was just my imagination, then the whole, room, then building started to shake. I was like WTF!
I thought it was like a earthquake but didn't even think we got them that bad here, so i assumed it was very strong wind. Then i just get up this morning and its on all the news, so now im like 'damn that was pretty cool'
Glad i wasn't in bed or i probably wud have just asleep lol, wonder if my parents felt it, not talked to them yet.
Anyway it was cool :D
gonna start ringing people, see if they felt it.

We had some small quakes over here due to gas being drilled out from underneath us but it was only felt in some isolated areas. (Didn't feel a thing personally, but caused quite a scare in some towns.)
Anyway, hopefully it will not happen again!

I felt it here (Yorkshire).
It woke me up - the windows were rattling, the bed was shaking and there was a really loud rumbling.
I realise it seems like nothing to a lot of other countries, but it IS quite exciting in a way :)

The point was that epidemic doesn't just mean disease and that guy is a complete twit because anyone that knows the definition wouldn't find him funny, in that I never said obesity was a disease.
The point was that epidemic doesn't just mean disease, I never said obesity was a disease.
The root of the word "epidemic" suggests there is a central starting point to the spread of the "disease" or "riots." Obesity does not spread, it just happens.
Not many people know the specific definition of the word like you do, so to use epidemic in that context is to connect obesity with disease, making people feel more hopeless about it.

So a persons surroundings has no effect on their weight? They cannot be influenced?
Please, it surely spreads, like wild fire.

Crystal meth addiction isn't transmittible, but the stories about the "meth epidemic" are quite common.
Language evolves, and the word epidemic is not limited to disease. Stop being so literal.

Actually, a literal use of the word would be fine. I don't like using that word because it forms the connotation between obesity and disease, which gives more legitimacy to all these diet gurus and people selling weight loss miracles, preying on the desperate nature of someone who thinks they have a deadly "disease"

How did we get into this discussion in a thread about an earthquake in the UK?

A major earthquake measuring 5.2 on the Richter scale hit in the early hours of Wednesday 27th February 2008. Epicentre: Canvey Island, Essex.
Victims were seen wandering around aimlessly muttering "f*ckin mentoe", "innit" and "sh*t".
The earthquake decimated the area causing approximately £30.00 worth of damage. Several priceless collections of mementos from the Balearics and Spanish Costa’s were damaged beyond repair. Three areas of historic burnt out cars were disturbed.
Many locals were woken well before their benefit cheque arrived. Essex News reported that hundreds of residents were confused and bewildered, still trying to come to terms with the fact that something interesting had happened in Canvey.
One resident – Tracy Sharon Smith, a 15-year-old mother of 5 said "It was such a shock, my little Chardonnay Mercedes came running into my bedroom crying. My youngest two: Tyler-Morgan and Megan-Storm slept through it all. I was still shaking when I was watching Kilroy the next morning."
Apparently though, looting, muggings and car crime did carry on as normal.
The British Red Cross has so far managed to ship 4,000 crates of Sunny Delight to the area to help the stricken locals. Rescue workers are still searching through the rubble and have found large quantities of personal belongings, which include benefit books, jewellery from Elizabeth Duke at Argos and Bone China from Poundland.
HOW CAN YOU HELP
This appeal is to raise money for food and clothing, parcels for those unfortunate to be caught up in this disaster;
Clothing is most sought after, items most needed include:
Fila or Burberry baseball caps,
Kappa tracksuit tops (his and hers),
Shell suits (female)
White sport socks
Rockport boots and any other items usually sold in Primark.
Food parcels may be harder to come by, but are needed all the same.
Required foodstuffs include Microwave meals, tins of baked beans, ice cream and cans of Colt 45 or Special Brew.
22p buys a biro for filling in the compensation forms,
£2.00 buys chips, crisps and blue fizzy drinks for a family of 9,
£5.00 will pay for a packet of B&H and a lighter to calm the nerves of those affected.
Please do not send tents for shelter, as the sight of posh housing is unfair on the population or neighbouring areas of Vange, Pitsea and Laindon.

Lol earthqaukes have nothing to do with global warming. Earthquakes are caused by a couple factors such as when 1 tectonic plate starts to subduct under another. Then the plates build up energy as they grind each other then when they release that energy its called an earthquake

The global warming is going to have a massive effect on the amount of earthquakes Hull expieriences. Hull, and its surrounding area, is a central place for the global warming to gather. As the global warming lingers, over time it sinks into the earth's crust, eventually hitting the limestone sediment faults and heating them up until they expand so much they just start to shake. Rather like a pan of boiling water. This sensation is know as an earthquake, directly provoked by the global warming.

LOL, i guess that is possible if all fatties fell down all together, just kidding though. Earthquakes can be linked to explosive volcanic eruptions or can be triggered by tectonic activity, with the latter being the cause of most earthquakes.
