Great fucking game, I recommend it to you people. Very addicting strategy game.
9/10
Oh I love this game. I loved Stardock's Galatic Civilization.

This game is NOTHING like GalCiv, and it's diplomacy system is absolute dogshit. This is a warmonger's Grand Strategy game, which is not at all what the genre is about.
5/10, for excellent combat, but lacking the rest of the entire fucking concept.

Been thinking about buying this... The empire-building sounds like just my sort of thing, but I want try the demo first, which supposedly is coming this week...

anyone considering buying it, just do it. it's a great game, the first time you zoom all the way out you'll shit bricks.

Yes, yes you will. The scale is massive, just heed my warning about lack of diplomacy, it'll piss you off far greater once you actually play it.

^^
Thats what mods are for, just give it a bit. The biggest problems are always modded first. Like the level system in Oblivion.
That being said, I'll wait for the demo.

Diplomacy can be turned off. It's a RTS game after all.

i agree. its more like command and conquer than it is galciv or something like that. diplomacy is a small part of the overall game. i dont miss it too much.

Broke down and bought it last night... The battles are really lame, but it looks like it has promise, and I'm guessing that watching them will be a very small part of the game

Ok so I went through a 5-star game in one afternoon (I'm a loser LOL). Pretty addicting game, pretty cool... But yeah, the diplomacy is fucked up and makes almost no sense. Just as bad as it is in the Total War games.
Somehow I don't see myself playing it very often though.

Sins is good but I can't see myself playing a multiplayer game, you would have to make a map where there's just each players starting planets and the standard 1 planet 1 asteroid belt conected to it in a 1 star map. Even then a single game could last hours. It seems like it's trying to combine MOO with Homeworld; which works...kinda, but not so much in multiplayer.
The level of empire building in turn based strategy games is hard to get right in RTS. You know what I just want to see another MOO game, give me Master of Orion 4 please.
BTW whats your favorite race? From what I've played I think I like the Advent the best, they have some pretty kick ass fleet support abilities. I try to ignore the fact that they're religious fanatics.

I am horribly necroposting in this thread to retract my statement about this game.
I just needed time to truly appreciate this game for what it truly is. The patches have fixed almost all my issues, and diplomacy is far more fun when you play it out they way they want you to. You can't directly communicate with civilizations, but you don't have to. Balance issues are all but completely gone in 1.04, and after the tutorials to explain some of the advanced concepts, it's very easy to get into.
9/10.

I want to get it. How well would it run on an Athlon64 3400+ with 1GB RAM and an ATI X800 Pro?

X800, haven't had one of those for a few months now. Vista or XP?

I didn't like it. It took way to long to make an empire and defeat someone. There is also basically ZERO diplomacy which sucks ass. 6/10

XP.
The computer is old, but it will run Oblivion, Far Cry, Doom 3, and other last-gen games just fine. I dunno how much of a system hog SOASE is though.
I need to upgrade eventually for Fallout 3 and GTA IV.

You're fine. This game runs perfectly for me with everything maxed, and nothing ever does that.

I thought it was pretty enjoyable, but I felt like the game didn't have a great deal in the way of combat. The ships move a bit too slowly and don't kill one another fast enough (even in high volumes) for the kind of micromanagement I enjoy in an RTS. It's still very fun, although I wish it had some sort of campaign mode.

Sweeeet... now I just have to get the game.
