I was just playing around in a parking lot in my Camaro and I was wondering about a few things. First of all, how illegal is it to do doughnuts in a parking lot? It was a school parking lot and I live in Ontario, if that matters. Since I'm on ice with summer tires, if I floor it I can get the speedo up really high without actually going anywhere. Say +50mph. How hard is this on the car? And does anyone have any advice about this sort of thing? Like different techniques to try, or "you're a dumbass, never drive again" type comments?

I'm sure you can get a ticket for reckless driving or display of power. As for damage, as long as you don't over rev the engine and it's warmed up I don't see any damage to be done. Don't hit a cRUb.

pretty sure you can get done for it, but the cop might let you go with awarning or minor fine if it's like 3am in the morning and nobody's around.

As far as I know, that would be at the discretion of the owner of the property.

If your car just has an open diff in it you can tear up spider gears by having the one spin like a madman. When your on ice spinning if you get to pavement and it grips youll either bust a rearend, driveshaft maybe u joint if your lucky.

It wasn't ice, just some loose dirt on the pavement, caught traction and broke the weld to my rear yoke, bouncing the driveshaft off the floor.

nope, living in ontario as well you can get charged pretty good for stuff like that now, im not sure how far wide this law is, but a lot of stuff now aday can get you a ticket for "racing" type charges, donuts, even in the parking lot at 3am, if the cop wanted to could give you a wreckless driving ticket under the new laws.
also, not sure how many people know about this, but you know how sometimes people turning left wont get an advanced and the gun it when the light turns green and try to beat the cars going straight?
well under new law if a cop sees you doing this you are getting a racing Charge.

You will likely also be cited for defamation of property if you leave large black circles all over the parking lot.
Donuts are cool to do every now and then (like once a year) if they are a spur-of-the-moment type of thing, but if you're out looking to do some donuts or whatever, you probably need to just calm down.
As far as being hard on your car, you have to be really careful not to run up the revs, as that could be really bad. You probably won't break anything going from ice to road unless you get great traction instantly. You're more likely to just keep on spinning until you let out of it (depending on what kind of power your car has). Either way, it's a quick way to waste tires and end up in a ditch or wrapped around a tree.
I never understood the people who think that loss of traction is awesome. Drifting just blows my mind. We've worked so hard in automotive racing history to increase traction and wear-rate. Oh well. Se la vie.

in my town the elementary, the primary and the high school are all next to each other so ive made a bit of a drifting track between the 3 schools. whenever i get off of work and there has been a snow storm, i take the dakota to the schools and do a lap or two around and then head home. never run into cops though so i cant say much about how legal it is.
but the best thing about snow drifting is that it can be sooooo quiet and smooth. i can putz around the parking lots and only rev up to 1500rpm but still slid around like a mad man.

Yeah, it's like saying you're allowed to wave a gun and play ridiculously loud music in public as long as you have the owner's permission to be on his property doing that.
