View Full Version : If you worked for XBOX (or any other video game console)...
and the opportunity came to work for some different bullshit company that will pay you 50% more.
Would you do it?
Hypothetical Question
irrelevant to my internets
what exactly are you trying to prove?

honestly, this is a fucking dumb question.
Just wondering if you would quit a job in a field that you love, for more money doing some pedestrian boring job is all. Simple question.

You could have just asked would we rather have a job that we are passionate about or work in a job we hate but pays 50 percent more.
ps: You can't work for XBOX. Xbox isn't a company
^ just wanted a gamers perspective on the whole thing.

I think anyone would take the money if it's 50% more.

Just because video games are fun doesn't mean the hundreds of overtime hours making them equals the same joy.

lol
As someone who will be applying for a job in the industry this month, I can pretty much tell you that people who work in the industry are typically worked like dogs. So, no, it's not some super happy fun job. It is a stressful job with long, long hours.

anyways....since all these applicants know the harsh realilty of video game employees... i believe durt would like to work in a video game company...so likeing it , which any real gamer should appreciate, would you work on that dirt money rather than potting soil money?
i would.i really only spend money on games and stuff.....since it being my passion i would work for a game company anyday

It depends on a ton of factors; but I think the biggest factors are how much money you are making and how badly you need the money.
If we are talking, going from $500,000, to $750,000, at that point more money probably does not matter as much as being happy with your job.
Also, if you live alone doing some job that pays very little, but you love, then I do not see the problem. However, if you have kids, and you are failing to provide for them as well as you have to, then your priority as a man is earning money, not how much fun work is.

Hypothetical Question
Depends on how much I'm being payed by the game company and what I'm doing. If I'm just a janitor for the Xbox HQ making 25K a year and I can be a Deputy Clerk for a Court for $50K then I would definitely switch jobs.
If I was a lead dev making 75K a year and I found another job that pays 80K but it involves being VERY bored every day then... no. I would not switch.

Thankys and please continue to vote but "fuck yes" seems to be the overall consensus.

From a financial standpoint, clearly the new job would be a better bet.
However, if you are doing what you love and you're making enough money that you're leading a good life, I don't see why you should switch at all. Unless the new job leads to better opportunities in the area of what you love, I say stick with what you enjoy if you're earning enough money to get by on.

I'd never work for Xbox in case I end up with a red ring.

Lol whats a red ring?
I'd definately change jobs as long as it was for at least 10k more (or 25%)
If it was like a 30k a year job and i oculd get 40k but i had to do like dangerous crap like rock climbing of building i wouldnt though.

think of all the free games n shit those people get. i bet they get to take home games to test and im sure they have free LIVE. (that extra money would pay for most of that tho) besides, im sure its a pretty laid back job.
