What a great run. Thanks for the memories Brett.
Aaron Rodgers now gets a chance to prove himself. Hopefully the Pack can keep the success going.

As much as i hated Farve growing up, i watched his whole career and it is really sad to see him retire. He's the last of the old Hat. The last player to be a Tecmo Bowl hero.

September 20, 1992.
The last time a quarterback other than Brett Favre started for the Green Bay Packers. The type of sports hero from your childhood that you tell your kids and grandkids about watching. Heres to you Brett.

Here's a great video on what other legends have to say about Brett Favre.

I am not as surprised as i would have been if he did this last year or the year before. He brought a fire to the game and a mentality that not many people had or have. He always made people around him better and had a rocket of an arm. Amazing QB and already a legend, im just happy i was around to watch most of his career.

The guy can still play and play well. He had one of his best years last year. Personally, I would have liked to see him comeback another year and shatter any more records Marino might have had. Favre is something special and the NFL loses out the day he retires. It's also going to be impossible for the Packers to find someone to fill the shoes of Favre. Favre is a legend.

I'm a Giants fan, but Favre has been one of my favorite players to watch play the game. I almost feel honored to have seen him play through his career. I mean come on, the day after his father passed away he went out and passed for 399 yards and 4 td's. Only someone really special would have the ability to overcome that kind of heartache. I'll miss him, no doubt.

I'm just glad he finally retired so I don't have to sit here in minny and read in the papers everyday about his continuing life saga and contemplating his retirement. His last pass was an INT that lost his team a chance to go to the ship and he knew at the end of the game that, that was as close as he was going to get again and its a throw he made 1000 times in his career, but couldn't make when it counted. He went back to trying to be a gunslinger like when they lost to Dallas. Randy Moss signing with the Pats was the last hoorah....he told Moss that he'd play for atleast 2 more years if he joined the team but, when Randy signed he knew he was done. Atleast he went out on a high note vs. coming back for next season and have the risk off not making the playoffs and having a 6-10 year throwing 25 Ints or something like that

Good. Brett Favre should have been out of the game years ago. I'm surprised by now he hasn't broken his hip. Unfortunately his career is blemished because he couldn't go out gracefully. He kept changing his decision, blah blah blah...and he is INCREDIBLY overrated. I don't care what stats he has.

Agree with Nick on the fact that he's overrated, he throws interceptions like crazy. But he still had a long career, and at least he didn't drag it out another few months.

Yea, God forbid he lead the youngest team to the NFC Championship . He should have been gone long ago. Why would a team like the Packers keep him on the team when he almost leads them to the Super Bowl? Jeez, retire already. Some people are just complete morons.
When has he really changed his position? He's always had one decision after the season and stuck with it. Obviously, as a veteran and legend of the game, he should have the time to think about retirement.

Now Aaron Rodgers finally gets his turn. I think Favre's time has come anyhow. Even as a Wisconsinite, I'm one of the few that felt him leaving this year, or even last year, is good for the team. We need to rebuild and now he have a real young team with a young QB and Rodgers needs some real game work anyhow. I don't think we'll be 13-3 this year but we'll go at least 8-8 which will be very good if we can break even.

Yea, I'm pretty excited to see what Rodgers does this year. I'm hoping he at least has a serviceable first year (a la Carson Palmer, Peyton Manning).

Rogers has always seemed to to well when was put in (Dallas, anyone?). One bad thing though is that he gets injured every time he touches the ball. Literally, every single time.
Hope the Packers do well in the draft to get a decent backup. I have faith in TT.
Maybe Favre could give Roger some of his balls? Hes got the biggest I've seen...

Ughhh.... Carson Palmer had 18td's, 18ints, a 61% completion rate and had an overall qb rating of 77.3 %....I'd rather not count that as servicable
Peyton Manning had a 56.7 completion rate with 26td's and 28ints with a 71.2qb rating.....he also won only 3 games that year
Right now.... servicable by your standards would be the 49ers or the Texans
I don't know about you but I have alot higher standards and expectations for a Qb whose been on a team as long as he has in the system he's been in and all the while being mentored by someone like favre..... if he doesn't win 10 games especially since he's in the nfc north and on a team that went to overtime in the nfc championship game.... I'd consider his season sub par and unsuccessful

What are you expecting? Pro bowl in his first year? I would be fine if he put up either of those numbers because it is his first year starting under center. Don't expect much better because it probably won't happen. I'm expecting more wins than what Manning and Palmer had, but the numbers probably won't be much better (and hopefully not worse).

Better then Montana? Better then Elway? Better then Johnny Unitas? How about Terry Bradshaw, Otto Graham? Tom Brady?
Farve is greatness and all, but top 5? That's kinda a stretch. He's top 10 easy, but top five? He's got a shit load of stats, but So does Dan Marino.

The past two years, he came back to non-playoff teams, but it 'wasn't about the records', it was about winning another SB. So, in 2007 gets his team (almost all of which would be back in 2008) to the NFC championship. Finally, he has that last shot at a Super Bowl in 2008! But wait, now he retires?? What on earth could have happened in 2007 that would cause him to walk away from a potential championship team now?
Oh, that's right, he set all of the major records in 2007. But, it was all about the team, right?

Yes he's better than all of them.
One of the most exciting and productive signal callers in pro football annals, Favre completes his 17-year career as the NFL's all-time leader in every significant career passing category - touchdowns (442), completions (5,377), attempts (8,758) and yards (61,555), plus wins (160).
A certain first-ballot Hall of Famer, Favre will be celebrated for his legendary durability even more than his prodigious numbers. His 253 consecutive starts (275 including playoffs) is the NFL record for quarterbacks and the second-longest recorded streak in league history. With 10 quarterbacks making their initial NFL start in 2007, a total of 212 signal callers opened a game since Favre began his starting streak Sept. 27, 1992.
The league's only three-time MVP, Favre led the Packers to 11 playoff appearances, including seven division crowns, four NFC Championship Games, two Super Bowls and a World Championship with a victory in Super Bowl XXXI. More (http://www.packers.com/news/releases/2008/03/06/2/)

You must be kidding? Montana is the best QB ever. Tied for most super bowl wins, must MVPs in super bowls. Since the play simply known as "the drive" against the bengals, he has been know as one of the best clutch players in football, if not all sports. Tom Brady is the guy who went 18-0 and lost the big game that mattersm, thats why Montana, and Bradshaw will always be sceen as better than him, and most other Qb's to play the game. Season means nothing unless you win the Super Bowl as proven this year.
That being said Favre was a great player, who loved the game. He would have been a great leader to have in the dressing room, if your down a few points, giveing a big speech.

Even as a huge Packer fan, I cannot say Favre was the greatest QB to play the game. I agree it has to be Montana. I don't even see Bradshaw in the top 5 because he was surrounded with so many HOF players. I see Favre at #3, behind Montana and Unitas.
The reasons Favre has to be in the top 5 are his longevity AND how many great seasons he's had during those 16 years as the Packers QB. You can say Vinny Testeverde has had great longevity, but he doesn't even touch Favre in terms of ability and skill. This article really provides an insight on Favre's greatness:
http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=3276536
This paragraph sums it up:
For most of his career, Favre was very good, but not spectacular. What's spectacular is just how many of those "very good" seasons Favre had. Of course, Favre set all of the all-time passing records over the past two seasons, but what is impressive is that he didn't set those records by sticking around as a mediocre quarterback long after his time had passed. Based on our numbers, Favre had more value in his final season than every quarterback in the league except for Tom Brady and Manning.
275 consecutive starts alone while still playing great football makes him at least a top 5 QB.

I thought Peytons first year was 3-13.. hopefully Rodgers will do better than that. I actually have a slight feeling he will grow into a decent QB but cant be too sure, just have to wait for next season to start.

I was pointing more towards the stats than the team record.

If aaron rodgers is ever going to be a good qb he should do decent next year, hes had 3 years in the system (might be a year off) and he has a good team around him, if he gets under 8 wins i doubt he will be the next qb for years to come. Romo took a dallas team that was similair to the packers to the playoffs his first year. Im not expecting rodgers to make the probowl like romo but he should be able to lead them to a winning season.

As a fellow Wisconsinite, I must concur. I love Favre but Favre isn't one of the top 5 QBs ever. Everyone just loves Favre and that blinds their judgement. Ever notice that when Favre throws an INT, it's because he's a gun slinger and he's trying to make plays yet if it's anyone else, it's a different story.
Favre is a top 10 QB all time though.
