for those of you who write lyrics.....what your process of doing it

obviously you need to pick some sort of topic to write about, but when i read lyrics from famous bands iam like wtf how do they come up with such good lines

maybe some are born with that talent.....

Just look at different types of poetry...that's basically what the lyrics for songs are...

A few of the bands I like write observational lyrics. Arctic Monkeys, The Streets and Lily Allen are masters of this. I tend to prefer this style as I think it's good to write about what you know. Lots of lyrics are also written about relationships or feelings between people, good or bad. I know it sounds a wee bit stalkerish but if I'm outside during my lunch break, I'll just type into my phone different things people are doing around me if it's interesting enough, and build an idea from there later on if it sticks with me.

Drugs are a sad excuse of the lack of an imagination. Yes they do "inspire", but they're not needed.

Drugs tend to hinder my lyric writing abilities, but as far as making the music itself, wow. Also, sequencing while sober is slightly less than fun.

But as far as writing lyrics is concerned, most of the lyrics i write and sing are pretty angry, they just tend come to me when I'm in a bad mood.

yea most of the famous bands in history were on some form of drug while writing their lyrics.......cause that shit dont just come to you sober sitting on couch thinking of what to write about

When I write lyrics, I start with the theme of the song. Then a bunch of lines that center around that theme, what I think of when it comes to mind, trying to describe it. Then I reword those lines so they rhyme and fit a rhythm.
