This is by far my favourite live solo.

That solo took that song to a new motherfucking level. Most of the time solos are added to the song and don't really do anything, but this one just uplifted the whole arena.

Saw the title of this thread, and before clicking on it that solo came to my mind....that's definitely mine as well, almost anything by Waggoner is amazing especially Selkies, the intro solo to Alaska, the jazz solo in Ants of the Sky, and the ending solo on Mordecai

Wow, I actually reallly loved that song... I understand that Dream Theatre, is one of the most technical bands out there, but I just havn't been able to cling unto a song by them until that..
Request any others?
Btw, that solo is perfect, Petrucci is one of the best there is today.
woops-sorry for double post.
About 53 seconds in. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X6pUZNfzk3Q) I love Glenn Tilbrook. This was the solo that made me get a guitar.
About 2:00 in. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VrFZEWw83-8) Pumps up an already testosterone full song.
They're not as 'fancy' as some are, but by gawd I love them and they fit perfectly in the songs.
edit: That Dream Theater one was great. Never listened to them before.

That's also exactly what came to mind for me too, haha.
I'd like to also add Blindfolds Aside by Protest the Hero. The solo in the song is so amazing to me, it's really smooth and aesthetically pleasing. The acoustic solo at the end is also great, I love a good acoustic part.
And I'd also like to add two songs by Coheed and Cabria, both of which are mostly duel solos. Welcome Home and The Willing Well IV: The Final Cut are both amazing songs, consisting mostly of epic guitar battles. They've got an amazing sound to them, especially with the effects they use, such as the talk box wah pedal.

LOL, I really like Protest the Hero the only thing I have against them though is that I can never tell when a solo comes up in a song of theirs....I mean Luke is just fucking shredding the length of the entire songs, look up the tabs to their songs, they're repetitive but it's basically just picking mad fast all the way down the neck of the guitar

Its impossible to pick a favorite guitar solo - but Red Barchetta and Camera's Eye still give me chill bumps after all these years. And any Dave Gilmour....and some jazzers no one here would probably care about...Eric Johnson is fucking amazing and has incredible tone...Jeff Beck on Roger Water's 'Amused to Death' album...really any Jeff Beck. Dennis Dias on Steely Dan's tune 'Aja'...

I've never liked A7X's solos...they all sound the same and you can tell the difference between an A7X solo and any other bands solo, it just seems to have that sound and I just don't like it

That was quite enjoyable, but I prefer the crispness and harmonics of the Skunk Baxter version. Very good change in style though.

Skunk was awesome on the pedal steel too in those days. I was just listening to Irvine '74 today. Have you found many live (not lip sync) video from that era that you don't have to use p2p to view? I sure haven't - aside from the standard top of the pops "Reelin' In the Years' - whatever show that was.
