View Full Version : YES! I GOT THE RRoD!

And I actually AM happy. Lemme explain.

My 360 broke about a week ago. Now, I wouldn't be THAT mad (I've had it for awhile in a pretty cramped, poorly-ventilated area without problems. I guess I was due) but it was only one red light. As you may know, that isn't covered under the extended warranty and I would have to pay $100 to get it fixed.

Well, I say fuck that. So I set to work trying to get the RRoD. I first put it under the sink for a bit. This gave it the 3 lights, but once it dried they went away. I then tried dropping it, but without giving it serious, noticeable damage. All that resulted from that was that now a hear a small part moving around in the system when I move it. Damn.

So yesterday, I wrapped it in a shitload of towels, made it overheat a few times, and then put it in the freezer. No RRoD, but I made it make a few funky sounds and the ring on the front did some weird patterns.

So today, I was sick of it. I put it in the sink, and DOUSED it in H2O. Like, under there for a good minute or so. I take it out, use a blowdryer on it, and I get the RRoD. A few hours later I blow dry it again, and turn it on. Still the RRoD.

w00t. Fuck you, Microsoft. Now I just wait for the box, send it in, and wait for my new system. Hopefully.

Wow, all I had to do was take mine out of the box it came in to get RROD. Twice.

You know when you return something like that, they just end up giving you another console that someone else returned and was fixed by MS. You just traded a console that didn't have the RRoD problem for a console that's prone to it. And on top of that, you have to wait a few weeks for it to return every time you get the (now)inevitable RRoD.

But gratz on your cheating MS idea.

Well, you know, it's basically paying $100 vs. not paying $100 in my mind. Even if the new console breaks sooner than it should, it's still a system I got for free. And it's still a system, period. And plus, if MS has to fix mine, that must mean it can't be in the best shape right now.

I want to play Oblivion.....

You know, the first thing they'll check for is water damage. Unless you get lucky.

Yep, you might have screwed yourself and may have to buy a brand new one. They'll see the broken piece you mentioned, and they might check for water damage. Good going.

yeah dude, rrod is so rare that they're gonna run a forensic investigation on each single unit they have returned.

It doesn't take much to see water damage. I don't know about Xbox's, but some electronics have a piece of some kind of paper or plastic (not sure) that will change colors if it comes in contact with water.

Well, my friend did this EXACT thing, and it worked for him. So I don't think 360s have that.

Somehow I doubt they will do much beyond turn it on and see that it has 3 red lights.

easiest way i'd say is to rub your feet on the carpet then static shock the circuit board, if you can expose it that is.

Worst case scenario: I pay the $100 I would have to pay anyway. O NOEZ!!!!!11!!!

And like I said: My friend did this EXACT THING and got a new 360 without a problem.

HAHAHA, jokes on you. 95% of 1 red light errors are easly fixed without a repair. It probably didn't even need to be repaired in the first place. Ask warka, I fixed his 1 red light issue.

Step 1: Call MS, lie and say you have 3 red lights (even though it's only 1)
Step 2: Send out Xbox
Step 3: ????
Step 4: Profit!

Did it involve wires, the hard drive, or something like that? I already tried to fix it.

See, but now I actually DO have 3 lights.

It was already mentioned, but if it has the little color changing sticker, then you're screwed.
Also, if a real anal inspector sees any signs of water damage or anything else out of wack... you're screwed.

Otherwise, good job!

If I wanted to break it I would have just covered the ducts up and let it overheat over and over and over and over without giving it any cool down time.
April fools?

Kay.

Because Microsoft definitely knows my username, right? And they definitely care enough to stop a package already on its way just because one person got out of paying $100 that he shouldn't have had to pay anyway, right?

Get outta here.......

I tried a similar idea. My disc drive broke and lucky; i got the three red rings a week later. I sent it in, and they busted me on the harddrive. The rep said she wouldn't report it or some shit and I got it fixed for free.

Just call the number and say that you have 3 lights. They get so many xboxes sent in that they dont even check anymore.
