How did you tear yourself away from WoW to make this thread? WoW is worst than heroin.

Horde
Level 43 Paladin - Protection specced
Steamwheedle Cartel server
Just started playing recently. I've noticed a lack of tanks in general, so I'm making one. Our guild only has one other tank despite having a good 120 characters in it.
Got a rogue sitting at 31 right now too. And I'm building a druid (slowly) to be a healer.
Tank, DPS, and healing. Got one of each.

Played for awhile. I've been sober since 3 months before BC came out. Played a 60 rogue, got bored with his shitfest(Guild just started farming MC, rogues sucked in blues back then). Fell in love with Mages, but fuck if I was going to farm all the way back up to 60 again.
Botted a 40 mage in 3 weeks, got caught on their one check during those 6 months(logged in at the worst possible moment too), and got le bannzors. I'm glad they did it now, too think of all the time i've wasted and could of wasted on that fuckfest.

Not all that long, really.
I've been playing almost since release. I just tire of one class pretty quickly, so I go back and forth between many characters. It results in using a lot of rested XP, so it isn't so bad.
I'm quite happy with my druid, and don't think I'll be touching any other classes ever, if not for a very long time.

So, while playing today, I was questing in Booty bay, and this (http://http://www.wowwiki.com/Hyacinth_Macaw) dropped.
I was only slightly excited at first. I mean, macaws generally sell for a gold to five gold, but my g/f actually made a character named Hyacinthia that she doesn't like playing and gave to me (priest).
After a quick google, and finding out how rare of a drop it was though, I got totally psyched. Now it's going to be totally awesome having a pet named after a character since it's so rare.
According to the drop rates on thottbot, it drops even less than what WoWwiki says. It's closer to a 0.00006% drop rate. That's about one in every 16000 kills. And only from bloodsail buccaneers in Booty Bay between the levels of 40-45. The math is based off of somewhere around 200k loots.
Yeah, I'm still cumming over this one.

Alright I'm just installing it now. What race and class would you guys suggest for a first time WoWer? It has to be for the horde.

Depends. Rogues are a lot of fun IMO because they kill shit sneakily and fast. Try an Orc Rogue.
Or an Undead Priest or Mage. Or a Tauren Druid.

Or a warlock.

What are you going to do end game? Would you rather be a damage dealer or a healer?
The healing classes are all pretty well balanced, but resto druids are really rape.
If you want to be a mellee damager then roll a rogue or warrior. Warriors are a bit more gear dependent though.
If you want to be a casting damage dealer then I'd suggest a warlock.
All of those are for PvP. PvE wise everyone is pretty well balanced.

I'm thinking Tauren Druid. What did you mean when you said "resto druid"?

When you chose a class and get to level 10, you get talent points. You put those points in one of 3 specs.
Warlocks have Affliction, Demonology, and Destruction; Mages have Fire, Arcane, and Frost.. etc
You can choose to put them in different specs but most people put everything into 1 spec.

Make a shaman
They do alot of damage per second and they heal well
and they wear mail
and they're easy to play

I don't suggest starting with shaman. They level slow from my experience. Not to mention high repair bills.

Tauren druid would be a solid choice. If you wanted to tank you can, if you wanted to heal you can, and if you want to DPS you can.
And restoration is the healing talent tree. You probably wouldn't spec for it until you're 70 though. (speccing means switching your talents from one tree to another. Most are feral while they level and respec later)
Don't make a shaman if you plan on doing lots of PvP... just don't.

You can go DPS with any class, of course, some classes are better at it than others.
Sooner or later, you're going to start wanting to focus on your endgame build though. You'll have to decide whether you want to be DPS, healing, or tank. Remember, DPS is going to be the most common build you'll see, regardless of the class. Even priests are DPS specced often.
If you want to heal, choose a priest, druid, shaman, or paladin. Each has their own advantages and disadvantages of course.
If you want to tank, choose a warrior, druid, or a paladin. Again, each has their own advantages and disadvantages.
As for DPS, just choose whichever. Any class can do it, mages, warlocks, and rogues better than the others (generally), but any class would do.
If you're still having trouble deciding though, go here (http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/info/items/armorsets/), and choose whichever class you think has the coolest looking armor sets endgame. Be sure to check out the priest's tier 5 and 6, they're both really awesome looking.

Also, I don't suggest being a rogue or a hunter if you want to get in groups and not be replaced in an instant.
hunters level fast as a mofo though.

Alright thanks for all the help. I've decided on a Tauren Druid. I have another question though: Are Druids good for PvP? And what spec should I choose to be the best PvPer I can? Can I heal Undead players? I play Warcraft 3 and, for example, a 'Death Knight' hero can only heal other undeads. Is it the same with WoW or can I heal anyone?
I used to play Everquest and I was a Druid but they weren't as versatile as in WoW.

You can heal anyone. If you start a tauren drood on daggerspine I'll start playing again, we can level together. Well maybe. Daggerspine if you wanna possibly play with me if I get back into it.
