I just read Blu-ray is possibly going to be an addon for the 360 now that Hd-dvd is dead and buried. Lite-On are supposedly developing the drive due for release sometime this year for it's "higher" end models above the current Elite though Microsoft deny it?
http://uk.dvd.ign.com/articles/863/863857p1.html
To be honest the only thing stopping me from buying a 360 was the fact i work so damn much i don't have time to play but also lack of Blu-ray, GT5 was also an issue but with forza 3 in the pipeline, that has cleared that up.
I'll wait for final confirmation on Blu-ray for the 360 then I'll buy one.
Thoughts?

Lulz, pwnage.
But seriously, if you're in no rush to get a 360 then just wait until an exclusive game you really want comes out. Until then the console price will only go down.

If 360 does get a bluray addition, will future games be on bluray or DVD? Either way, the 360 will RRoD itself

the games will probably not be blu ray because it's a separate addition and isnt actually included with the console. microsoft never made any hd dvd games did they? The only reason the hd drive existed was to watch movies, it was never meant for games. PS3 on the other hand doesn't have this problem because it has built in blu ray in every system.
PS: people always say how the 360 is cheaper than the ps3, well how bout after including the cost of the hd dvd drive thats now useless and supposed blu ray drive thats coming out?

to settle the x-box vs ps3 vs wii once and for all
in the simplest way
if you like:
A) Online Gaming, Sports,----> halo<----- and dont give a fuck about blue ray ( which i dont cause i would like to keep burning thousands of movies for next to nothing cost ) buy a 360
B) Adventure games, -----> god of war <------using it to look at youtube, other websites. and watching higher quality movies with a little more durability. buy a playstation 3
C) child games, family games, life like motion controlers. -----> mario party <-----. and dont care about good online gaming, dont care about high quality movies. and want to pay allot less with the most durability... buy a wii
it really depends on YOU
not the system...
for me the 360 was the best choice
and btw... just remember that having an x-box will be a huge advantage to GTA lovers due to the online advantages

That's fucking retarded, why would I buy an add-on for the 360 to watch movies, when I can buy the actual player?
PS. Griff, the PS3 will have GTA4 online too. The system with the huge advantage will be PC, with all the modding capabilities

I have both, and both are really good over all. Da Box is really good, with some decent servers, achievements and the like. THe Playstation is decent, with stable servers, with no achievements. That will be fixed with Home, where you can have an awards room to show your gaming skills. The hard part though, is Home is a long ways away.
Really no difference in a way as most games are on both consoles. YOu pay for the box, the playstation is free.

Oh lol, I meant how GTA IV will be different for online play between PS3 and xbox.
I doubt there will be anything different save the "extra" content for 360.

The add-on would be cheaper than buying a PS3. Also it is worth noting that it's much smaller and wouldn't need to add another remote to the pile.

well you can buy all the movies you want, but the fact remains, HD DVD is dead and no more movies will be made for it, leaving you with an obsolete technology that can only be used on a few discs.

here's the differences for GTA4.
Neil Corbett, the lead QA for Rockstar's Grand Theft Auto 4 (for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360), recently posted an interesting tidbit regarding the game on rllmukforum.com. He discussed the major differences between the two versions of the game as well as the exclusive content found on the Xbox 360 version.
Here's a quote from Corbett explaining the fundamental differences between the two platform versions of the game:
Hello, as it stands the Xbox 360 version has the smoother framerate & far faster loading times (without any installing) but the PS3 version does have that warm feeling with bleached out sunsets & the like. The extra content of the 360 version is significant but nothing like an 'extra Island' at all- as the lead platform it is currently the superior version however. Just you wait until your first windscreen-flying experience.
It seems like the graphical difference between the two platforms is what sets the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of the game apart. However, we still have to see for ourselves exactly how the upcoming title will play itself out once it goes live.
the 360 will also have bonus missions, side games and downloadable content not found in the ps3 version. the ps3 will also have downloadable content.

Sony don't own Blu-Ray
Sony is just 1 of X amount of companies that board Blu-Ray.
plus, if Sony could do that MS could fuck them back 10x worse by not allowing Windows to be used on Sony computers.

ok i don't know how many times this has to be said but sony does NOT own blue ray, its simply one of the many companies that endorsed the technology and aided in its development. Hell, even Toshiba, the company that spearheaded the HD-DVD format is part of the Blu-Ray corporation, as well as Samsung, and many others. Sony's PS3 definitely aided in popularizing blu-ray but that does not mean they own it

No but it holds alot of the patents for it, developed the technology for it and it has the most players out on the market.

More like the leading, spearhead of the movment. Sony was the most prominent player in the market, and for that its probably the most infulential.
Hell, even Toshiba, the company that spearheaded the HD-DVD format is part of the Blu-Ray corporation,
Toshiba is not part of the Blu-Ray corporation, it isn't on the Board of Directors, it's not a contributer and its not a member. In fact you could say they where the main competitors to Blu-Ray.
as well as Samsung, and many others.
Samsung was mearly a member of the HD-DVD camp, rather than been a leading board member on the Blu-Ray team.
Sony's PS3 definitely aided in popularizing blu-ray but that does not mean they own it
No but they have a very big influence and control over it.

Not on paper, however Sony is pretty much one of the top guns in the BDA.
Not that they will block Microsofts attempts at incorporating a Blu-Ray player into their Xbox 360, it would just be something Sony can rub in Microsofts face, hence the reason Microsoft are stalling the efforts to put Blu-Ray in.
At the end of the day Microsoft will probably release a peripheral player when it becomes cheap enough they don't kill their price advantage.

It can be argued that there are quite a few quality hd-dvds and since when can it only play hd-dvds? Last I checked it played everything but blu ray...which, last time I checked, was more than a "few discs". Point being, you missed my point. There's a big difference between something being obsolete, which every piece of electronics becomes, and something being useless. That's like saying an NES is useless because they don't make games for it anymore.

The tech for that isn't around.
No one is going to want to waste the time to download a whole HD movie
No one is going to want to waste hard drive space.
Not many people have an internet connection fast enough to stream a full HD movie.

they do
they do rental movies with standard def and high def. although its not streamable like someone said, you have to DL the full movie file.
a good idea in principal. but how many people have a connection that can download 5+ gig HD movies in a small amount of time? i know it would take me at least 3 maybe 4 hours to get that. but i do like the idea, its definitely the future.
its having some small success for MS though, so give it 3 or 4 years and i think it'll come a long way. it wont take over sales of actual DVD's but i reckon it'll make up a fair share of the market.
