Been a fan of the series since childhood. I'm actually replaying FF9 since VIII is such a steaming pile of shit.

I bought FFXII recently. I haven't played it yet since I'm still playing Rogue Galaxy, but it looks promising as a time waster between now and FFXIII.

The only final fantasy games (1-12) I haven't beaten yet are 3 and 12. But I'll probably be beating 12 soon though.
IX is probably my favorite. VIII is good but I wished they spent some more time on the other characters like Zell, Ward, Kiros, Irvine etc

I fell in love with the FF series when 7 came out in (i think) 1996. It had such a fantastic storyline, brilliant music, good graphics, interesting characters, great gameplay, great side-quests, it had everything.
I remember getting up an hour early everyday so i could play it before school, then rushing home afterwards so i could play it for the rest of the day. I'd just sit there for 6 or more hours at a time watching the story unfold in awe.
I got 8 and 9 when they first came out too. They were good, but they couldn't hold a candle to 7. 7 was just pure awesomeness on a CD.
Then FF10 came out and i was so disappointed with how mind blowingly fucking SHIT it was that i decided i would never buy another FF game.

Hmm, i thought mystery dungeons gameplay was utter shit. The other two are basically realtime, which is an opinion on RPG gameplay if you like realtime more.
FF7 Did some of the best RPG gameplay ever, the system was perfect.

does it not get repetitive having a dozen+ sequals? the + is because theres probably like ff5, then ff5 continued or something equally gay to ff in general.

My favorite is 3, both Japanese and US versions. :bigwink:
Runner up is 7.
The worst FF to date was 8, it was horrible.

The entire Final Fantasy series is and always has been Japanese. It's art has always been that, 'gay Japanese's anime style.' What are you talking about?

They're not sequels. FF7, FFX, and FF Tactics don't share the same story line.

Let me clarify. When I say "gay japense anime-style shit" I mean that there was an abundance of gay japanese anime-style shit in the rest of the series that was absent in the two I listed.

I would highly recommend you VI and IX. FFVII is good ol' fun if you don't mind the dated graphics. They are all great games IMO. You just have to accept the fact that not every fucking game is a FPS designed to entertain fat, stupid fucking American retards.

Clearly someone has never played Final Fantasy before and is just following the "hating" trend.
Final Fantasy does NOT have sequels (excluding FFX and FFX-2).
Every Final Fantasy has completely different characters, a completely different plot, a completely different world, different monsters, different summons, and in some cases completely different styles of play (see: FFTactics, FFXII, FF8 if you count junctioning/drawing).
The best is undoubtedly FF6 (or otherwise known as FF3).
For me, the rest follow suit as FF8, FF7, FFTactics, FF10, FF9, FF11, FF12, FF4, FF5, FFX-2 and finally FF1.

Final Fantasy 8 is my personal favourite, followed by 6 and then 7.
All three of them are solid RPG's, but I was a bit dissappointed at 7's ending, didn't really do it for me.

Turn-based fighting is bullshit. I completed FF VII, then went to a bar and picked a fight with the biggest dude in the place. I said he could hit first, because I had to power up my Spiral Cut attack, and he floored me before I got the chance.

You're right, not every game is an FPS designed to entertain fat, stupid americans. There are games too who have a fucking gay boring turn based fighting system, a shitty storyline fulled with fag characters, and not to mention the fact that it's intended for lifeless, pathetic japs.

final fantasy 1 - 6 were all the same for me 6 being slightly better
7 - 9 blew my mind i loved the story lines
when 10 came out i was disappointed with the voice acting ( it was awful )
i'm not even going to say anything about 10 2 ...
I never got around to playing 11 and 12 was ok, i didn't really like the characters and i felt the storyline was lacking but the gameplay was pretty damn good!

I loved FF8 till I got to a point I couldn't beat and then said fuck it and never played it again. I remember watching my friend play FF7 and I loved the chocobo racing and the summon knights of the round table. Then I bought FFX2 for like $15 and hated it and have never played another one since.

Are you suggesting that JRPGs require a higher intelligence to play than FPS games? Hell, implying that JRPGs require a brain to play in the first place is absurd considering how a vast majority of them require nothing more than grinding to succeed. I believe a fact you need to face is that JRPGs aren't that good, and that a lot of them are just generic bullshit with shallow stories and repetitious gameplay.

The only one I like is seven. I'm glad they're expanding it's storyline a little and I hope they remake it someday. It'd be awesome to play that game over again with better graphics, voice overs and awesome gameplay. When capcom remade the original resident evil, I loved it, so when it comes to remaking games I'm all for it.
The rest in the series never interested me though. I played Final Fantasy 8 for like two hours and got sick of it. I didn't bother with 9 and I'm surpised I got as far as I did in 10 considering it was even worse than 8.

Perhaps you should try FFXII.
XII suffered a little in terms of character development and it doesn't feel like a "true" Final Fantasy, but the battle system was completely redesigned to be both real-time and turn-based. It's a very effective system.

It's like you could use your post as a mad lib, it's that fucking generic. Go beat Penance on FFX and tell me it's easier than lobbing off a headshot on a pro-player.
Mind you, I love both FPSs and RPGs, but you obviously haven't played any JRPGs.

Good going there. You just proved my point that in the world of JRPGs, grinding tends to replace wit and talent.

Clutch at straws much? Learning game mechanics and stratagems does require some actual skill and mind. While GRIND GRIND GRIND doesn't.

You're fucking stupid. Grinding doesn't mix much with JRPGS. They might mix with them in which you kill almost every fucking random battle monster, but bosses are still hard. Penance has 10 million HP. Your characters' max hits can reach up to 99,999. Do the fucking math. Add that to the fact that status ailments come in to play.
I could give a flying fuck if time based battles are unrealistic. Square has been doing it since 1986, a time where a lot of shit was unrealistic. Come on now, an Italian plumber eats shrooms and becomes a lot stronger? That's unrealistic. Oh yeah, it's a fucking video game. Video games were meant in a way to escape reality and adventure into other worlds. That's great that some games are realistic. What's next, a 360/PS3/PC game where you sit at an office cubical and flick Cheeto's off of a desk? Just because you don't like a type of game, doesn't mean everyone else shouldn't.

Thanks for proving my point that you have yet to play a decent RPG. GRIND GRIND GRIND only works for the easy RPGs, like FF10. Everything else is going to require a plan. Tell me that shooting at a target requires more thinking than keeping up a haste/slow/reflect/shield/barricade/status-cures cycle while still putting up enough dmg to fell a boss before you run out of HP/MP, this is implying you know the boss's strategy and moves already.

I've never been disappointed by a Final Fantasy game. They always deliver. Sure some are a little better than others but that's to be expected. So far i've played FF 2 (FF 5 in Japan), 3 (FF 6 in Japan), 7, 8, 9 and Tactics. I would have played the later installments had I actually owned a PS2. :(

Yeah yeah, it's cool to hate the Final Fantasy franchise.
Anyhoo, I'm currently replaying FFVII: Crisis Core on Hard Mode now. Fuck they weren't kidding, it takes me forever to kill enemies now. The thing I like about this game is that it really appeals to me as a gamer and an FFVII fan. First time I played through it, I really enjoyed watching the story unfold and seeing how some of my favorite characters developed; seeing how it all began. I was really excited to find out I got to actually play some of the scenes that were mere flashbacks in the original. The way they handled those scenes was WAY beyond my expectations. They brought back the simple espionage/sneaking mini game they had in FFVII, figuring out how to get the different combinations for the safe lock in Shinra Mansion was brought back, everything gave the game a nice sense of completion.
Then there's the aspect of the game that appeals to my gamer side, in that missions get really challenging, but are EXTREMELY rewarding. There's a hidden boss that could be one of the hardest I've ever faced in an FF. Materia fusion is interesting and really makes you think because you need to know how the formulas work and apply them when you're combining two materia + an item to boost their stats. Then there's a bunch of mini games and side quests that can be done that are entertaining.
Oh yeah, Bukowski would like this; there's a part in Crisis Core where you pick up an upgradeable sniper rifle that you use to take out sentries. Headshots are instant-kill, body shots and leg shots not so much, and shield shots barely do any damage.
I think this is the first Final Fantasy game to let you pick off enemies using a sniper rifle >_> it was a blast (edit: egh..shitty pun not intended). It ain't easy either, the scope shakes and enemies can hear the gunfire if you miss, and will run away. It's solidly implemented.
But yeah, I'm stuck on Hard Mode now. Trying to find different combinations of materia so I can hopefully stand a chance against some of these harder missions. This FF has exceeded my expectations more than any other FF out there, surprisingly. I suppose the cliche, "Great things come in small packages" actually works here.

Oh oh, I recently played the re-re-re-re-remake of Final Fantasy 1 on PSP. It was good, classic fun. It had been about 9 or so years since I played the game that got me into RPG's, so I figured it was worth the purchase. I wasn't expecting it to be so epic o_O. The music blew me away but then again I never played the PS1 version which apparently sported the same newly orchestrated soundtrack.
When you beat it, they let you do some kinda new game + thing where you can access new dungeons or something like that, and keep previously attained items so there's incentive to play after you beat it, but I have yet to get very far into a second playthru, especially with Crisis Core occupying my PSP.
Is this it for the Final Fantasy discussion? Bah.
