Just got finished watching it online. At first, I thought it'd be another crappy Stephen King movie.
And here's where I get to piss off a lot of people.
I thought it was better than Cloverfield. For once, the preview didn't show the very best parts of the movie. Although the premise and the plot was nothing new, it still exceeded my expectations. It demonstrated that, even when faced with disaster, your fellow man can still be your worst enemy.

I really enjoyed it, a much more in-depth horror movie than usual. I know the storyline is similar to John Carpenter's The Fog but this was a much better film all round, focussing more on the characters, how they deal with the situation and eventually turn against each other. It wasn't particularly scary but it was much better than Cloverfield which wasn't scary at all, and eventually just became annoying with the shaky-cam. Stephen King back on form. A thoroughly enjoyable film.

I liked it. That little boy couldn't act for shit. Plus a lot of the dialog was annoying. IE: "Daddy whats happening, is mommy okay?" A kid would have enough common sense to know that his dad wouldn't have that answer.

He's scared and doesn't feel secure, a child usually looks to their mommy for comfort. And you're right A.I.; this movie was way better than cloverfield; cloverfield was just a godzilla remake to me and this movie seemed like something new.

Indeed it is.
I liked the movie overall, even though some of the acting is atrocious, I didn't lose interest in what was going to happen next. Mrs. Carmody is one of those characters that makes you honestly want to smack her in the mouth.

***SPOILER ALERT***
i thought the movie was good....but the stupidity and ignorance of some of the people in the movie is so obnoxious i almost turned it off.
the fucking black nigger being ignorant...the jesus freak....the people following the jesus freak...why she wasn't bound and gagged in the first 5 minutes is beyond me....
best part of the movie is the end with the epic giant tentacle beast walking past. and i wish the "window" wasn't closed. It wouldn't have been....the fuckin other dimension would have over run our whole planet.

People get weird in stressful situtations, and there are tons of nutballs out there. Especially way out in the boonies. Have you seen some of the clips of those polygamists in Texas? Fucking whackos.
The ending of the short story was quite different. spoiler -> it wasn't closed, and it ended with them venturing out into the myst with little hope

yeah good point....i guess the moral of the movie was stress + hicks = recipe for disaster. case and point spoiler: when the alien flies and birds start getting into the store they're like "turn off the lights" and 'cletus' and 'bubba' run around and turn them all on and are like "ok we turned them all on" then absolute chaos and comedy ensues with people, fire, people on fire, and alien mosquito stinging.

I just recently saw The Mist myself. I feel I enjoyed watching Cloverfield more though, I actually felt like I was there, running for my life with those people.
The Mist ending was a little ridiculous, *spoiler, it was unrealistic no human being would give up that easy. You NEVER shoot your son in an instance like this, you try to run/walk on foot as far as possible so at least you tried your hardest before being eaten.
I was so riled up at the religious fanatic, I was screaming at the TV, KILL THE FUCKING BITCH JUST KILL THE FUCKING BITCH the very first time she opened her mouth. A movie hasn't done that to me in awhile, so it gets a 7/10 just for that.

Who's to say I would be eaten? It's not certain, putting a gun to my head and firing has a certain ending.
I'd like to think most people with a will to live always give it that last ditch effort.
This movie proved making that last ditch effort may be worth it.

I really enjoyed it. I've never watched a movie where I hated one character so much, the whole audience cheered when she died. The last 20 minutes or so creeped me out. The combination of the main characters actions towards the survivors in the his truck, the giant monster walking over them, and the reinforcement coming in just rounded off a solid movie. But what really won me over was how the whole movie was without music except for the end.

i just saw it and it was awesome. the ending kicked ass even though jane adams acting was terrible in the final scene. i dont see why people complain about the movie by what the characters did, though. they are characters in a movie. they arent suppose to represent the average person.(spoilers) they could hear the monsters screams getting closer in the final scene. they were probably screaming because the soldiers were killing them, but how were they suppose to know that? as far as they knew, there was pretty much know hope of escaping.

I guess I was expecting another crappy Stephen King movie, but this one surprised me. Of course, it's not a classic, but I guess I wasn't influenced by all the hype from the previews, to build me up, just to let me down. Like I (and others) said, this is the ultimate John Carpenter's The Fog. What should have been.

Discuss and dissect the ending all you want, fellas. Fact is, it wouldn't have had the "punch", without it. Tragic ending...we have to imagine how a father could've made a life-altering decision to do what he did and find out that the last four rounds (not bullets, as he says) was so enigmatically ironic.

I'm with you on that. The ending to the movie was one of the few cases where a movie deviates from the book and ends up making the story even better. I read how the book ends on Wikipedia, and if they went with that the movie would have gone from 8/10 to 6/10 in my rating.

the ending was funny to me...because it was kinda expected. to make it completley funny all he would have had to say whispering kind of was "son of a bitch" or "god dammit" and then it would have been a comedy. and if you don't believe me i will pull out the old video camera and show ya how...

fuck, thank you if the dialouge had been better written it would have been more enjoyable.
I don't think it is fair to compare it to Cloverfield. I think they were going for two different types of atmospheres. It's obvious just by seeing the trailers. I didn't expect Cloverfield to offer anything deep in terms of philosophy or anything like that. I expected it to be your typical "LOOK A MONSTER RUN!" movie where people keep making dumb decisions in the heat of the moment and eventually everyone will die. It was done well and as much as people bitch about the camera, I liked it, it was different and made it feel more stressful. The Mist was obviously going to be different with having people confined to a grocery store with a crazy religious lady, instantly giving the ideal that there will be a battle for power, as well as paranoia, claustrophobia, cliques would start forming and chaos would ultimately surface sooner or later. It seemed less "LOOK A MONSTER RUN!" and more "Fuck, there's monsters outside, what do we do now?"

In my opinion Cloverfield wasn't all that great. Maybe because in the theaters I was looking down half the time to avoid throwing up from the motion sickness it caused me. The concept was very cool, but they shouldn't have ever showed the monsters face or what it looked like, it just ended up being a disappointment.
I liked The Mist but I think that's because of Thomas Jane. He's a such a bad ass. The ending made me stare at the credits for a few minutes after just repeating to myself "Holy fuck".

I didn't really believe the ending either. Its human nature to try to survive, even against unsurmountable odds. I guess seeing all those other people die so horribly would have changed their mindsets, it just isn't what I'd do at all.

They thought the whole world was covered in the mist. They had to drive about 3 or 4 hours only to come to no end of the mist. They had nothing else to do but wait in the car and die or get it over with.

Yea, I think it'd be a different story if you were actually them.
They obviously DID have a strong will to live. But look at it like this-
To them- leaving the store and driving out into God-knows-what was their last ditch effort. When they got in the truck and were driving off, I'm sure all they were thinking was "Maybe we can get out of the mist."
After 30 minutes of driving, I'm sure things would start getting gloomy. 3, 4, maybe 5 or 6 hours of driving later and then running out of gas, I'd imagine lots of people's wills would be broken.
You can't possibly fathom the emotions you'd be feeling and the thoughts you be thinking in those kinds of situations, don't even try.
I know a lot of people probably wouldn't kill their son, but I imagine plenty would too.
the last four rounds (not bullets, as he says)
Oh god, get over yourself bitch.

I don't think I would have killed myself I probably just would have ran off to see how far i could get or something. I'd figure in that I was going to die I might as well die in an exciting way. I'd probably just think if I tried to shoot myself what if I did it wrong and ended up laying there like a vegetable waiting to die.

good movie. the monsters look like dipshit tho. about the ending, i would've probably talked for a while before deciding to do what they did. *spoiler the reason he shot his son was because he didn't want him to suffer a painful death, obviously, so with four rounds left, he decided to be the one who would go through the horrible death, even though he doesn't. he is just your typical nice guy in the movie. i thought it was stupid how the ending just suddenly happened the way it did, but good movie overall.

I thought the ending was pretty epic.... I watched it with a few friends and we all agreed if it had ended any other way it would've just been another shitty movie. I would've liked to see what happened to all the people in the market though. The religious freak was their leader and then she died and I would've liked to see what they did after she died and if the monsters got them or not.
How would you have liked it to end? With them just getting destroyed by monsters at the end? The military saving them all? Them making it to a safe haven and living happily ever after? They fight the monsters themselves and live?
IMO all those endings would've been cheesy as hell and have ruined the whole hopelessness and uncertainty that the movie created.
So I'm just curious to see how anyone who didn't like the ending thought they should have ended it.
On IMDB it states that Stephen King loved the ending and wished he would've written that ending in the book itself because it's better than what he thought of.

Watched it yesterday, it was a pretty shockingly poor movie...
Ending was decent but otherwise completely drab. It's the kind of movie you pull out of a bargain bucket for a laugh and end up pleasantly surprised.
That's all it will get out of me by way of compliment.
