No Half-Life or Morrowind, so I'm good!

But Call of Duty? How the fuck would that be any different from the 100000000+ WWII movies out there?

Also, Rainbow Six is probably based on the book, in which case, a movie would be more or less okay with me. Batshit eco-terrorists might be a nice change from Russians and Muslims.

True I didn't think of that. The books are very good so that= win.

Mortal Kombat might be decent if it's the same actor playing Raiden as in the first one!

ok, maybe not... but that Raiden was a badass. The one from MK Annihilation was awful.

There are also plans around that WOW is going to be turned into a movie.

Hollywood is eager right now to either turn every comic book or video game there is into a movie or just make a sequel to one they already did. :banghead:

Yeah, and all the tweens going out will see it anyway. We'll just end up with a recycled movieplot 'perfected' with consumer panels.
It seems hard to realize that movies and music are actually art. Nowadays, it all just seems to revolve around marketing strategy and money.

Shut the fuck up with the "hollywood is out of ideas" gag. News flash: it's all of you guys' fault anyway for repeatedly watching that shit. The same people who complain endlessly about adaptations of any kind are the same that end their sentences with "but I'll probably see it anyway."

And then they just come in with, "well, I only saw it because my friends saw it" and all this crap. If you hate what your friends like, get new friends.

That being said, I think think Devil May Cry and Rainbow Six could potentially make good movies. It all depends on merits most people don't think of (i.e. directors, actors, writers).

You idiots DO know that 99% of this shit gets thrown out before it ever makes it as a movie, right? You'll never have to see most of this shit.

Here's some more: Mario Bros, Resident Evil, Mortal Kombat, Street Fighter, Tomb Raider, House of the Dead, Alone in the Dark, Blood Rayne, and counting. And I'll repeat what I said many moons ago on another thread.. You know why they sucked?
Simon West, Paul W.S. Anderson, Uwe Boll, James Yukich, Etc. They all sucked because they were put in the hands of filmmakers who would fuck up Shakespeare given the chance. Not one of them has ever produced a decent movie.

If they manage to get somebody with actual talent to do Splinter Cell I see no reason why it couldn't be a kick ass film.

Also, isn't Devil May Cry being done in Japan?

yes, i agree... the story is pretty good, but they'll probably change it and only leave the badass revenge seeker detective.
and some cool bullet-time too.

Ticket sales have been dropping at an accelerating rate for almost a decade now. Hollywood doesn't give a shit if their movies bomb, they'll make sequals to them anyway.

No respectable director will ever touch a video game movie. I've said it before - we will never see a good video game movie.

Do you honestly believe that makes any sense? Why the fuck would Hollywood make a movie if they thought it would bomb?

Everyone here can bitch all they want, but they have all seen the sequels and remakes and adaptations, and they have all said shit like "Oh god a Halo movie would be so fucking kick ass!"

Has there ever been a great video game movie? I really don't know. I've only seen two of the ones mentioned so far, so I'm not much of a judge, but I wouldn't consider any of them good.

The only one that I can think of that would have potential is Metal Gear Solid.

But let's be fair here because this goes both ways. Any video game based on a movie is almost always awful.

If they fuck up Rainbow Six, I may be liable to assassinate the director.

If they follow the book, and don't make it too short, it could be a badass movie.

And I've said this before - you're wrong. Don't start this again. We can, and we WILL see a good videogame movie eventually. It is inevitable. As the industry grows larger and larger, and as a new generation of filmmakers come who have grown up playing these games (much like how the previous generation grew up reading comics) quality video game based films will be a reality.
Worst case scenario, it takes a decade, or two at the most. But mark my words, it WILL happen.
And last time I checked Peter Jackson was still trying to make Halo happen. He wasn't directing it, but he was still heavily involved in the creative process.

Has there ever been a great video game movie? I really don't know.
Nope. The best they have is probably Silent Hill...which was passable I thought.

EVERQUEST!!!!11111!!!!1

I always thought that game would make a pretty sick movie if they do it right. It will be like lord of the rings except more action and shit.

Everquest, honestly, has horrendously WEAK lore. Either incantation of Warhammer would make a 10 times better movie.

I would do anything to see a Peter Jackson directed Legend Of Zelda movie. I was playing the original today and thought about all the games and thought to myself how awesome it would be see Link battling Ganon in live action. Fuck yes.

"Monopoly" the movie? One of the best comedies of all time is a film based off a board game. I'm not saying Monopoly would be good, but I won't second guess films based on board games I'll tell you that.

Has there ever been a great video game movie?

Not really a video game movie..but uses the same characters. Final Fantasy: Advent Children was a fantastic film.

Aside from that, none. I think the best I've seen is Mortal Kombat I, it's not a good film by any stretch of the imagination...but entertaining to say the least. Plus MK was my favorite game growing up as a kid and seeing it on the big screen was like heaven. I mean seeing Sub Zero and Scorpion walk through that door was a childs wet dream. I mean c'mon, Goro looked kick ass and they did a pretty good job casting the characters.

Holy crap! I thought you were joking, but I did a search and you're serious!

I Hate to break it too you, but look for that one to suck also. John Woo, by his own admission even, does not understand or even like the science fiction genre. Just look at what he did with Paycheck.
