Besides Stairway to Heaven which I admit is amazing....I have yet to come across another song of such calibur..
Throw out some titles and I'll give em a go, cause atm I don't really see why everyone loves em so much..

Thats because Led Zeppeling is a bunch of uber fags. Now Led Zeppelin , on the other hand, are pretty decent.
Had to make the joke but honestly you have to be into that kinda blues rock to get them, I think.
Edit. Fuck you, Solaris, and bring back the french knight avatar.:banghead::wah:

Led Zep was hardly hard rock. They were a pop rock band that made music that appealed to the masses.

couple of songs to listen to;
Babe im gonna leave you - great haunting fingerpicking acoustic song
d'yer mak'er - id say this was reggaeish
achilles last stand - if you dont like this, give up on them now
since ive been loving you
tangerine
bron-y-aur-stomp
Dont feel as though you have to like em, just because they're classed as a legendary band. I couldn't get into rhcp when i was younger, even though everyone else loved em. If your still adamant about wanting to like em, seriously just buy some of the lesser known albums and give am a listen.

I said that they were hardly hard rock. They were a good pop rock band. End of story.
Led Zeppelin contributed huge time to heavy metal so one that says they're pop rock knows shit about music history.

There would've been no Metallica, Satriani, Malmsteen, Dio, etc. if it weren't for Purple. The devil's horns wouldn't have been the symbol of heavy metal if it weren't for Blackmore's discovery of Dio.
Just face it, Zeppelin was a good band, but there was better hard rock around.
Put a short clip up of the hardest song by Zeppelin and I'll give you something that's twice as powerful by Purple (which wasn't even a hard rock band).

Honestly, what do you even get out of this?
It's like on 90% of youtube vid comments, people just comparing guitarists to other guitarists constantly, and people going completely nuts over it.

Bullshit . . . the impact Led Zeppelin had on music was unmatched by a band of that time.
You honestly must not have any idea what hard rock is. Pop rock is music like Paul McCartney, Chicago, Elton John, etc. Led Zeppelin had a large emphasis on the drums, as well as guitar.

Live version has a solo. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=svR3iXKTJvc)
Some of my favorite songs are:
The Ocean
Ten Years Gone (This song goes so unmentioned but, in my opinion, is pure gold)
Dazed and Confused
Black Dog
Rock & Roll
Achilles Last Stand
Fool In The Rain
In My Time Of Dying (one of their heaviest songs)
Trampled Underfoot
The Song Remains The Same
And the list goes on...I could also say the 20+ live medley version of Whole Lotta Love is absolutely amazing, but every song is even better live, I think.

Both Led Zeppelin and Deep Purple were very important bands.
Led Zeppelin was a figurehead of classic rock in general and a large influence on the development of hard rock and metal through blues.
Deep Purple was representative of many of the psychedelic hard rock bands of the era. These were the bands that bridged psychedelia and prog rock by creating a sort of proto-prog and setting the stage for prog to be delivered by bands like King Crimson and the Moody Blues. Deep Purple was also a large influence on hard rock and metal... remember that Bruce Dickinson's vocal idol was Ian Gillan.

If one wanted to get into zep, which albums would be the best starting area? Just 1-4? Or are most of the albums worth the hour download?

Led Zeppelin worked/work as a unit far better than any other band. Every member was strong at their own instrument but the band as a whole and how they communicated musically is what makes them legendary. If you don't like their music then there's nothing you can do about that, but there's a lot more you can learn from Led Zeppelin than the intro to stairway to heaven.

Achilles Last Stand (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rq-XVONVX7k) is the best song ever.
Dire Straits - Sultans of Swing, JJ Cale - Cocaine, Jefferson Airplane - White Rabbit may all be the best songs ever... but in the end Achilles Last Stand will always win... Always.
