I'm thinkin about buyin one of the total war games. Personally I think the Roman/Greek one looks cooler but seeing as I have never played the games I was hoping someone could tell me which one is the best and why/possibly list some pros and cons.

Medieval II. You can play this game for a very, very long time. It's the newest and the best one, IMO.

Every game in this serie is an improvement on the next, although how much of an improvement it is, differs. As such, Medieval II is right now the best out there (although it does make big demands of your 'puter), but Rome:TW is not far behind.

I love Rome:Total War with the Total Realism mod. Mostly it is because I have studied ancient rome most of my life. Its fun, intuitive, and feels wonderful to exterminate city after city.

Medieval 2 has better gameplay mechanics and of course better graphics, the combat is probably cooler to watch in medieval 2 also, havent played Rome for a long time but when i did, i played it alot, i play medieval 2 using Darth Mod and/or Broken Crescent mod, they are both good mods for a great game.

Just depends which era you like, if you want probably the best game with the best graphics (assuming you have a decent PC) then get MTW II, or just get Rome as well, seen its like 5 pounds now.

I've played Rome: Total War for a fucking long time, but I recently got medieval II and I think it's better. The one thing I liked better about R:TW is the era in history, but other than that, the only differences between Rome and Medieval Total War are the improved gameplay, graphics, and some new features from Medieval II.

Depends on what age you like. If you like antiquity get Rome, and if you're a history buff get the Europa Barbarorum mod.

They're making the same mod for Medieval 2 though, which I haven't played yet.

Medieval 2 is an awesome game, but the cavalry frustrates me. When I tell you to charge, you fucking better charge, not just trot around with your swords in your ass.

the patches fix it a bit. i remember at first, they would stop in front of the enemy right as a good charge could have been made, and just take their swords out and slowly approach them. After the patches, however, the cavalry still moves way too slowly sometimes for no reason.

Isn't that atleast partly actually intended? Especially heavily armoured medieval cavalry isn't going to be all that fast. The charging is indeed problematic, although I think you can usually 'force' them to charge, but I'm not entirely sure.

I would get Medieval II, but make sure you use a mod. The vanilla version fucking sucks. Lots of bugs, messed up cavalry, stupid AI... Most mods fix these though, and most add more nations and other cool shit, especially shit for history buffs.

Three times before I tried to frame a response to that, but every time I couldn't eloquently phrase the thoughts I'm having but I'm just going to do it:

What the hell?! M:TW was by far the worst game from the series so far!
